[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It is really irritating that Best Buy won't ship the V10 or the Droid Turbo 2. I thought with the V10 it was because of the free TV deal. But they will ship the TV, but the phone has to be store pick up. Is it just because it is so new?
I agree and it's true that they don't do recently released phones... Has anyone been able to ship the G4 with the TV on subsidized price?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes that phone (LG G4) Best Buy does allow you to have it shipped. And you could pick the TV up tonight.

I just really want that V10, the extra RAM, and the reviews on the camera!

Best Buy does that for all new releases. In about a month, they will start to ship.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Anyone know how long this Black Friday deal for the S6 runs? Im still torn on which one to get, the S6 64GB, M9(LOVE my M8!) or?

Probably 24 hours or the rest of this week. I'd be very surprised if it lasted all the way through black Friday.

So I went through and started the process. Once I clicked the button to add the phone to my cart I got a popup saying the plan doesn't exist and it would change to a 2GB plan. Normal message and just continue?

Yes as long as you chuck out the installed SIM from the dummy line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You have to use the two year contract and not device payment plan! The device payment plan does not actually put you under contract, so you'll be hit with the extra $20 charge on November 15th along with the monthly phone payments.

The Best Buy Method does not work through Verizon directly.

Your best bet is one of the following:

1.) Transfer your upgrade from unlimited to the basic line and order either the G4 or V10 through Verizon. When the phone arrives, destroy the SIM that ships with it and use your old SIM to activate the phone directly on the unlimited line. Your basic line will not get hit with a data charge by doing this route.

2.) Do the Best Buy method and order an iPhone to sell. The cheapest 6s model is $200 and you should be able to get around $650 or so. If you go this route, make sure to destroy the SIM that ships with the iPhone.

I thought Verizon had closed that loophole of ordering a new smartphone with a dumb phone line. I thought they automatically stuck the $30/2 GB plan on that line whether you activated it on the dumb phone line or not. Buyer Beware.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I think because they are doing an offer to get a free 24" TV. I was noticing that also. I am torn on trying that and then doing like somebody posted earlier today about when you go in to pick it up, saying it is a gift and getting them to not activate it.

Otherwise I was thinking about getting the S6, which ever one is the same price as V10 and then going back to the store to do an exchange for the V10. (Lots of memory, removable battery, and SD card! Winner, winner, chicken dinner) and there is an offer from LG for a 200gb card, x-tra battery and dock charger for buying the V10. I really wish they carried the new Nexus 5x at Best Buy. The first Nexus 6 is too big for me. The 6p would be better, at least it is newer tech.

If you think the Nexus 6 was too big then stay away from the V10 - it is big and it is heavy - see AC Central Review by Phil.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

First off, thanks to everyone in this thread for the help! I've previously used the dummy phone loop hole to keep my UDP, so I'm familiar with these, but just want to make sure before going ahead. I have;

L1 - UDP, out of contract and upgrade available.
L2 - TDP
L3 - dumb phone

If I go to Verizon.com, transfer the upgrade to L2, get a new phone from VZ and have it shipped, do I pop out the sim and put L2's sim in before activation? Since its reverse of getting a new phone on UDP, I just want to be extra careful with the deadline coming up. I've read these threads all day, and not sure if the sim removal works with Verizon in this manner.

To make this more complicated, L2 just became upgrade eligible last month. Can I play upgrade roulette and put L2 to L3, then L1 to L2? The goal is a new contract with UDP on L1 and a new phone for my wife on L2 TDP.

This method works on BB because it's a third party provider so they can't activate the phone directly like Verizon. Btw, I called my local BB and asked about gifting a subsidized phone on Verizon they said no go. So definitely going for the G4.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I can confirm transferring the upgrade and ordering a phone still works directly through Verizon, if anyone runs into similar issues I had. Ordered yesterday and it already shows the new contract end date on 11/10/2017 and the line still shows a UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Is it safe to use customer support after using the Best Buy trick? I've seen this asked before but I don't think it was answered. I need to talk to Verizon about buying a phone full retail.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Question, if I do the upgrade through BB, when does the contract kicks in? I want to know just to make sure the contract starts before Verizon increases the price for unlimited data...

So if I do it today, the contract kicks in today right?

Thanks in advance

Same day assuming you don't do it at night. It takes a few hours to process. I've seen people up to 12 hours.

So I'd say no later than 12 PM for Same day to be safe.

I held both, and the V10 is much more manageable in hand. The n6 is very unwieldily in hand. Just feels uncomfortable, and the curved back adds to that.
