[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm hesitant to rely on reps. You had a good rep it appears but I'm just going to leave my last udp line month to month and either sell it or upgrade next year. I'm getting my last phone for the year for my tmobile line instead (gold note 5)
Since you have vzw and tmobile I thought you might know...when using your tmobile phone can you have calls from vzw phone forwarded to tmobile phone?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I too lost my UDP last night. I did everything as noted, and still managed to lose it. Have you been successful in restoring your UDP, if so how did you do it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Got off the phone with VZW, the rep stated that there are no provisions to get a subsidized phone on single line while keeping the UDP, at least according to her. She stated that the system in the background knows that phone was upgraded and will make the appropriate changes.

So I ended up having her backout all the changes and Ill return the phone to BestBuy tonight and I have a contact number to call back tomorrow to start the IPR. So I would no be surpised if others eventually have this happen to them.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My last two phone were purchased on Swappa as not to mess with the contract but it just kills me that I have an upgrade that I cant use.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Has you done it before, if so were you successful, and how long did it take to reflect the change in your account?

I haven't done it but I know others have in the past like JulesJam (she may be frequent now on slickdeals)

I returned the phone last night to BestBuy, today I will be calling the same VZW rep back to start the IPR process to reverse all the plan changes.

To those saying I did something wrong, I followed the process to the letter. The speculation is that VZW has now changed third party activation to be based off of the phones IMEI number and not the SIMs ICC ID number. This is the method the VZW stores use and removes the loop hole that everyone was using before. Take a good read through the Slickdeals thread, the recommendation now is to NOT use the BestBuy method at all. Again this is all speculation but the Jules is still recommending to NOT activate the new phone on your UDP line if its a single line setup.

So activate it on a non udp line first?

Thats what some are saying on the SlickDels thread but no one is guaranteeing it.

Did BestBuy give you any problems when returning the phone, and could BestBuy not take care of the problem with Verizon while you were at the store. Have you checked your Verizon account to see if the contract dates have been reversed?

Best Buy can only accept the return and give you your upgrade back. Once that is done, you have to deal with Verizon to get the unlimited plan back. Best Buy cannot help you with that. The steps are basically:

1.) Return the phone
2.) Restore your upgrade
3.) Call Verizon and file an IPR (Inactive Pricing Request)

This all must be done with the 14 day return period of the phone. If it happens after that, your IPR will be denied.

I also followed all the process, and I checked my account, and when I turned on the phone with the new cut sim, it showed that the phone was activated. I then checked myverizon online, and it showed the sim card number to the card that came shipped with the phone, not the sim I placed in the phone. Therefore rendering my phone unusable. One more note, I just received my letter from Verizon about activating my new equipment on 11/16/15, and shows the 2GB data charge instead of the 29.99 unlimited. What to do.

There is definitely a lot of stuff going on with that thread, but some very good information. What will be interesting is to see if selling or activating the phones on a different account will affect unlimited.

I'm wondering if this is the same thing going on with att udp

Can anyone confirm that they were able to get their UDP back. Do the bestbuy reps know what an IPR is? Is it even worth dealing with the bestbuy reps, or just return the phone, have them reverse the contract date, then deal with Verizon. Need advise. Thanks.

Please post your results once you call VZW. Thanks.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, so we ordered a new iPhone for my wife's line (UDP) from Best Buy on the 14th.. The phone is expected to arrive via UPS tomorrow.

In light of all those following the same process, I want to return the phone. Am I ok to just take it back to a store to return it and make sure they make the upgrade on the line available again? I've seen mention of IPR for UDP, but that is only if you lost it, right?
