[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I did this method to get the note 5 on my wifes TDP upgrade.
So i had S4 and she had the note 4. after the note 5 was activated on her line, i tried to switch it with mine at the vzw website. it didnt let me. so i ended up calling vzw. and said i need to swap phones with each other. so the note 5 came in my number and s4 in hers. then she just changed the sim to her note 4... my acc still shows unlimited. only change showing is the upgrade date on TDP is 2017.

Great! Just want to clarify.

So I can transfer my UDP upgrade to a TDP, upgrade and activate it. Then call VZW tell them I want to swap phones (did they question why) and once they swapped devices then just switch sims and you still have unlimited?

If so that seems awesome. But I feel like VZW would wonder why or question you want to swap devices. I thought if you get the subsidized price, your locked with that phone on that particular line.

Thanks!

Looks like the poster you quoted used the TDP line's upgrade, not the UDP line.

Ry is right. i was talking about TDP upgrade not my UDP upgrade.

Jackpot0, The rep didn't ask much.
When she picked the call she asked me 'hows the nationwide talk text 700 working for ya'. i said its working just fine for me(i thought she'd try to start a conversation about getting a new plan but she didnt).. i said what i wanted to do.. but i was on the line with her for 30 mins(didn't talk much, just made sure she was on the line once in a while) before she completed the whole thing. not sure if she did on purpose or if it really takes that long. i tried to be as polite as i can.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi all, I am looking at unloading my UDP line but have 2 questions

1 - Is there any way to extend contracts on these lines now? (my current expiration is fall 2016)

2 - I'm looking at first splitting it off from the rest of the family share. Would they force a new plan or should I be able to (easily) retain the Nationwide plan, just not shared? Or is it easier to split off the other lines into a separate subaccount?

Thanks!

Do you want to sell your UDP?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Mods please advise/move if this warrants a new thread, but has anyone with an UDP utilized the equipment installment plan option? Are they providing the smartphone line discount of $25 if do you (I doubt they would, just thought I would ask) ?

Asking again

Gurus,

Please respond

Thanks,

In September, 2015, I did the following based on the forum's advice (DUSOCCER10):

Originally in Sep 2015:

Line 1 - Had Galaxy Nexus UDP, upgrade available
Line 2 - iPhone 5, TDP, upgrade available

>> Used the Line 2 Upgrade to Note 5 and then swapped the Note 5 to Line 1

The Current Scenario is:

Line 1 - Note 5 on UDP, upgrade available
Line 2 - iPhone 5, TDP (contract is now extended until Sep, 2017)

Now, I would like to transfer my upgrade from Line 1 to Line 2 and then Upgrade Line 2 to an iPhone 6S+. At the same time, I would like to keep my UDP on Line 1 with Note 5

1) How can I do it?
2) By doing above, will my contract for Line 1 extend by another 2 years from today's date?
3) My Billing Cycle ends on Dec 7 >> Will I be charged an extra $20 for the Unlimited Plan if I were to do this in the next couple of days. If yes, is there a way to save this $20 Unlimited hike?

Thanks a Ton!

I wouldn't do it. that upgraded phone will be 'toxic' to your acc. thats what i gather from the thread in slickdeals.
what most people are claiming to be safe is doing the upgrade, selling the phone and using money to get it at retail price. also your upgrade should be 2017.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just an FYI for people coming and asking about upgrading and keeping UD, or you just want to extend your contract.

There are no great answers right now, best bet is to read through the past few pages and make up your own mind. If you do find something that works let everybody know.

Just from reading this thread since Nov 15th the only person I have seen upgrade by subsidized was upgrading his TD line on the same plan. Activate the phone on that line and later he had it switched to his UD line (he had to call Verizon to do the switch). By doing this he got a new phone but his contact on the UD line did not change. As of now nobody there is no way to transfer updates and than use that phone and keep UD.

Only other way is to order a subsidized phone on your UD line but do not activate it at all on your plan! Than sell that phone. Your contract will be updated and you will have money to buy a phone for full retail which you can add to your UD line.

Now as far as I know you could also buy the subsidized phone and trade it for another from a different plan and it works out for both parties. This has been talked about but I'm not sure it has been done.

These are the only answers as of right now.

I have done this but you have to wait until the price is the $49.99 for the data on your plan before they will let you do it. You do not get any discount on your line, but you can use the $100 off promo "UPGRADE" to lessen the blow of the phone cost.

So when you say you have to wait for the data price to be $49.99, you mean first billing cycle being month to month? With different discounts etc some people don't pay $30 for unlimited. So the price may not get to $49.99

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

****ok i found it, now know what it is****

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

here is my scenario:

L1 - UDP - Droid Razr Maxx - upgrade available
L2 - TDP - Droid Razr Maxx - upgrade available

L1(me) wants LG v10, L2(wife) wants LG G4

order v10 from best buy.com under L2 upgrade
when v10 arrives, toss new sim that came with phone and put sim card in from L1
go to verizon web site and transfer upgrade from L1 to L2
go back to best buy.com and order G4 with L2 upgrade again
when G4 arrives....activate with new sim card or put L2 old sim card in G4....does it matter since its a TDP?

if these steps aren't correct, please advise...thank you for the help.

According to VZW you have to wait until the $49.99 data price shows up on your billing to be able to use the installment plan. I do get a work discount on the primary line which discounts the $49.99 18%.

Best Buy method no longer works. 2nd you can't just transfer a upgrade on Verizon and not use it on Verizon. It switches back when you don't order a phone on Verizon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

thanks for the reply Tuff....after reading more last night it seems i'm about 2-3 weeks too late. i didn't realize about the transfer as I've never done one b4.

well i had already ordered the v10 through best buy as they have them on sale for 50! if i can find a g4 on craigslist for L1....would Verizon have an issue with just swapping the phones to the other line?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Quick Question: I am on my parents plan, myself and my two brothers have unlimited data plans, and my parents have basic lines. My parents want to upgrade to a smartphone and doing so will change our plan to one of the tiered data ones.

How can my brothers and I save our unlimited data? Will we lose it when our parents are forced to pick a new plan for their phones?
