[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have been sifting through the responses and I am still trying to figure out what I can and cannot do.
I have 3 active lines.
Line 1 with UDP - Not upgrade Eligible yet
Line 2 with UDP - Not upgrade Eligible yet
Line 3 standard - Upgrade Eligibled to do the Monthly Payment Plan?

In the past, I have been getting around the whole issue with being forced to the Shared plans by just transferring Upgrade Eligibility to another phone on my plan, never using the upgrade for the phone it was meant for. Always worked like a charm even when they make you choose a shared data plan.
Can I still transfer my upgrade from one phone to another and retain the UDP or am I now forced into the Payment Plan?

UPDATE: I made a call to Verizon to check on my specific scenario. I always upgrade the line that does not have UDP. So when Line 1 is has an upgrade available, I transfer that upgrade to Line 3, get the new phone and move the Line 1 Sim over to the phone I just upgraded for Line 3. Line 3 remains unchanged. When Line 2 has upgrade eligibility, I will transfer that eligibility to Line 3 and get a new phone and move Line 2's sim over to the new phone, all without having to make any changes to my entire plan and without being forced to pay more for my data. I am happy camper.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Good day to all of you experts,
Had a couple of simple questions for you.

1. Can one switch sims between phones on the same account (essentially switching phones on the same account) without having to notify Verizon?
From what I understand, the data plan & phone number are tied to the SIM and not to the phone.

2.When you get a SIM card from a Verizon Store, is it programmed with your data plan and phone number already?

The reason for asking the above 2 questions is that I recently purchased a USED S6edge from Craigslist and I currently have a S3 with UDP on it.
So I can't swap SIMs between the old S3 on my UDP and the recently purchased S6.
I went to Verizon store and they said they can activate the recently purchased S6 without affecting my UDP . They took the S6 to the back and when they came back they said that they had put a new SIM in it but couldn't activate the phone without affecting my UDP. They said activation of the S6 could only be done via the Verizon Phone Support and the store doesn't have access to the legacy UDP codes.
I thought since my daughter has a apple 6S with a Nano SIM on a TDP on the same account, why don't I insert her SIM card in the S6 and activate it on our account. Once the S6 is activated I can then insert the SIM Verizon gave me (supposedly tied to my UDP) in the S6. Have my daughter insert her SIM back in her apple 6S.
Everyone happy and no chance of my UDP being affected.
By the way neither of the plans have an upgrade available which from what I have read is unimportant since the upgrade route is mute anyway
Am I overthinking this too much??
Should I just contact the Verizon Customer Service and have them activate the S6 with the SIM Verizon Store put in it?
Any recommendations or suggestions are much appreciated in advance.

Thanks

BUMP.....
Anyone out there??

Since it's technically a phone that's never been on your account you can use it with your sim. If your sim isn't the same size you can buy a sim cutter and/or adapter via eBay or Amazon and then use it in the used phone in my opinion

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks, but I didn't want to take the chance with cutting my old SIM. Hence my post.
Any idea about the SIM that Verizon store put in the phone I just bought?
Isn't that the same as my old SIM which is in my old phone (current one I am using)?

Thanks

If you have a new inactivated SIM you can activate it on your UDP line by logging into your Verizon account online. There is a function to activate a new SIM there.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The option to activate the new inactivated SIM (like the one I got from the Verizon Store) only works for an existing phone on the account.
The S6 which I purchase from CL has not been activated on my account...
That's my dilemma at this point. How do I go about activating the phone I purchased from CL without putting my UDP in jeopardy where the SIM in my current S3 is not the same size as what the S6 takes and I don't want to cut the SIM from S3. Mind you Verizon store did put a SIM in the S6 when I took it to them to have it activated.

Thanks

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You should be able to switch phones on line. The system will ask you for the MEID of the new phone. Enter the number for the Craigslist phone. The system will know, based on the MEID, that a new SIM is needed. Follow the prompts to enter the SIM numbers off the new SIM.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I tired that however, I can't find the SIM number from the phone so I get stuck on the third and final step.
The available options are either "Order a new" one or "Go to a Verizon Store" (which is what I did to begin with).
I think this must be where they will get you. If I order a new Nano SIM on line for the S6, Verizon will mess up my UDP plan.

The S6 shows the following:
MIN
PRL Version
ERI Version
IMEI
IMEISV
ICCID

But not SIM ID :(

The SIM number is printed on the SIM card.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes, you are right, I verified the number on the SIM itself and ICCID is the same as the SIM number.
However when I tried to activate the new Nano SIM card that the Verizon Store put in the S6 I bought from CL on the line that I have UDP, it tells me that the phone is not compatible with my plan and asks me to select one of their other NON UDP plans.... Looks like I have no other option but to get a SIM cutter and cut my Micro Sim from the S3 that is currently on my UDP plan and use it in the S6 and forget about activating the Nano SIM Verizon store put in the S6.
Am I right in assuming that if I select one of the plans they are pushing on me that my UDP will be lost??
Can't value added re-sellers make a clone of my Micro Sim on a Nano Sim so I don't have to cut my Micro Sim?
Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance!

Try to buy a nano sim from a third party and activate it online.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Could you recommend a source?
What would be considered a third party?

Thanks
I picked one up on ebay a while back. Just searched for "Verizon nano sim". Otherwise Verizon premium retailers (not corporate stores) should be able to sell you one without activating.

OK, this is getting really confusing now. The Verizon store I went to was not a Corporate store, it was a Verizon Authorized store.
I am being told by some other forums to go to a Verizon Corporate Store instead and have them activate the S6 but you are telling me to NOT go to the Verizon Corporate store.
Sorry, but I am truly getting confused!

Did you enter the MEID for the new phone when trying to activate the SIM? You can't activate it against your old phone. The system knows it's incompatible.

Going to a corporate store is a BAD idea.

Yes, I entered both the MEID and the ICCID of the S6. The first step is the MEID and the S6 is recognized by Verizon's website. The ICCID is the same as the SIM ID and it is for the Nano Sim the Verizon authorized store put in the phone.
I had asked the Verizon authorized steore to activate the S6 at the store without changing my UDP and they said they could. However after they took the S6 to activate it, they told me that they couldn't since they didn't have the code for my UDP plan.
