[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Are any of your UDP lines in contract or out of contract? I'm asking bc of the $20 extra fee you'll have to pay if they go out of contract and you choose to retain Unlim Data...

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Both of the UDP lines are out of contract. Do they automatically add that fee once the phone is activated? In just worried about losing UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Once the lines go out of contract, the $20 fee is added automatically...if you want, you can now do a device payment plan on lines with unlimited data and still retain your unlimited data, if that's something that interests you...

Do you think I would be able to do that upgrade swap that I mentioned a few posts back? Thanks for your help.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

From what I have experienced , I think you should be able to do what you originally asked about and still be fine.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here's my dilema...

Line 1- UDP, contract and upgrade eligible on 7/25/16
Line 2- TDP, contract and upgrade eligible on 2/25/17
Line 3- TDP, contract and upgrade eligible on 6/25/17
Line 4- TDP, contract and upgrade eligible on 6/28/17

In the past, I had transferred my UDP upgrade to another TDP line and when the new phone arrived simply discarded the SIM card that came with it, inserted my existing UDP SIM card into the new phone and activated the phone extending my contract and keeping my UDP.

That method no longer works?

I want to upgrade the UDP phone, extend my contract, and avoud the $20/month fee for the UDP. How can I accomplish all that?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a UNLIMITED DATA VZW account that I use for my home internet.

This account is still under contract until next year I believe. In February 2016 I changed my plan to the loyalty "$15" plan.

How can I get a new device from this account with my elegible upgrade?

I'll be using the new device on my account that I use as my every day cell phone.

I used the Best Buy glitch back in July 2014. But I'm under the impression that is no longer a working method.

Any incite as to what options I have? Thanks!

If you have only one line on the plan then you can't upgrade and keep both the phone and UDP.

You say you use Verizon as home Internet and that you have an everyday phone. Are they the same line /account?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I am on a family plan. I have UDP and my father does not. We are both eligible for an upgrade. If he were to upgrade the phone with the TDP to an S7 and give it to me, could I put the SIM from my S5 in it and keep my UDP? If so, could I upgrade my phone later and give it to him to do the same thing?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

on Nationwide Talk 700 family plan

L1 - UDP (Samsung GS6) in contract until 2017
L2 - TDP (Apple iPhone 6) in contract until 2017
L3 - No data (upgrade available)

I tried to do an upgrade transfer from L3 to L1 on bestbuy but it tells me I need to go to the store to complete the upgrade... Now, I'm willing to pay full retail price for a new phone on L1 since I don't want to lose my UDP on L1...

Will I lose UDP if i purchased a new phone (gs7) off bestbuy and have it ship it to home and use my sim from gs6?

Yes upgrade your dad's line and put your old SIM card in it and you will not lose UDP. After you do that just transfer your upgrade to his line and upgrade it that way.

You will lose UDP like that.

What you need to do. Transfer upgrade from line 3 to line 2 and order the phone you want. When the phone comes in you can now do two different things. You can just take the SIM from line 1 and put it in the new phone. Or activate the phone on line 2, use it a little. Put old phone back on line 2 so then the new phone is free to put on line 1.

When im on the bestbuy website, i added gs7 edge to the cart and clicked upgrade to enter in my verizon information. bestbuy website tells me "In order to upgrade, you need to return your current device to your carrier. Head to a Best Buy store and we’ll help you with everything." after it verified my verizon info.

so it looks like i can't peform a transfer upgrade / purchase a phone from best buy online. at this point, I'm okay with buying a new phone at full retail price. I just wanted to be sure doing so won't kick me off UDP on L1.

Sounds like you bought your phone using a payment plan? Otherwise I don't know why you would need to return it?

You can do it the same way using the Verizon website, you don't have up is Bestbuy.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi everyone,

Two years ago today I ordered the Samsung S5 and reused the sim card from my S3 to keep unlimited data on my UDP line. I've seen differing posts on this. Can this still be done? If not, how should I proceed with no other lines on my account.

Thanks,

Chris

Only thing you can do is buy a phone without using your upgrade. Use the upgrade for a phone (for you) and you lose the UDP.

You can use the upgrade to order a phone and then sell it for cash. But if you ever activate that phone on your line the UDP will be over.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I just got off the phone with a Verizon rep a few mintues ago and want to see if you think I should trust this guy. Here's my situation:

1. UDP - contract
2. UDP - contract
3. UDP - no contract, upgrade eligible (price already went up $20 monthly for this line)
4. TDP - contract

I want to transfer the upgrade available from line 3 over to the TDP on line 4, then upgrade line 4 and obviously keep my UDP on line 3.

In talking to the Verizon rep I asked, "now that I'm paying $20 more per month on line 3 already, can I transfer the upgrade and keep unlimited data." (I've read and been told you can only do this if you do the payment plan option). He told me he could do the upgrade on the 2 year Contract and keep my UDP on line 3, he said it takes a little doing but that he could do it. He gave me his name and direct line and said to call him back and he could get it done.

You think he can do it, should I trust him and go for it?

If not, what are my options to get this upgrade done and not lose the UDP on line 3?
