Oh I must have misunderstood then , bc I thought he had an unlim data line on his account already? But I guess bc it's 3G, that is the issue?

Here is my situation:

Line 1 has unlimited data
Line 2 has a 2gb data plan

In the past, whenever my Line 1 was eligible for an upgrade, I would transfer that contract onto Line 2, buy my new smartphone on that Line 2, and then put my Line 1 SIM card in that new smartphone and retain my unlimited data that way.

Edit:

From my research, here is what I observed from forum members:

1.) Order phone online from VZW on TDP line.
2.) Once you receive the new phone, DO NOT turn on the new phone.
3.) Remove SIM card from new phone and throw it away and put your SIM card (from your phone with unlimited data) in the new phone
4.) You retain unlimited data and now have a new phone.

^^^ Does that method still work?

If you put the sim from the unlimited data line in the new phone then you would lose unlimited data.

You can sell the phone or use it only in your tdp line

Correct you would keep unlimited data so long as you never activate the phone on your unlimited data line.

But wait, buying a new phone for my line, means that I'm going to activate it. Right? How can I not?

Hi to All. I will forever be indebted for any help that you can extend to my situation:

L1- UDP eligible for upgrade, out of contract and has been paying the $20

L2- TDP eligible for upgrade on June 2017

L3- Basic Line eligible for upgrade on August 19, 2016

My goal is to upgrade L1 and keep unlimited data.

What is the best (or cheapest) method that I need to do to achieve my goal.

How would he/she lose the UDP ?? I have done the method mentioned numerous times and have not lost my UDP...my line 3 had an upgrade while my line 1 UDP didn't ....so I used the upgrade from line 3 to get a new phone and just put my UDP sim in the phone and no issues...I kept the iPhone 5c on line 3 and no issues....

Officially if you want to buy a phone for your unlimited data line then you can either pay full retail or do a finance contract. There are loopholes to do a service contract using the unlimited data line's upgrade, but they all require that you don't put it on the unlimited data line, else you will lose udp.

Correct, you used to be able to do it but Verizon patched that part of the loophole

So what you guys are saying is to upgrade L3(basic line) to an TDP and get a smart phone? Then put the smart phone in L1 that has the unlimited data? I will just have to cancel the TDP in L3 and put back the basic phone in L3?

As I'm getting further lost, can we try again? My unlimited line is no longer on a 2 year contract (Note 3). The objective is twofold: (1) to be able to buy a new phone (when Note 7 becomes available) at the 2 year contract price, and (2) to retain the udp. Both of my other lines are not eligible for upgrades as they recently got new phones on 2 year contracts. Suppose I pass my upgrade eligibility to one of them. Then what, as I still have the above objective? Or are you saying that to accomplish both (1) and (2) for my current udp line is impossible?

You say you use Verizon as home Internet and that you have an everyday phone. Are they the same line /account?

They are 2 separate accounts.

My Unlimited data plan account is my actual account that under my name.

And the account that I use for my day to day device is under my woman's name..

They are 2 different accounts and 2 separate bills.

Do I have any options? Thanks!

If that's what you want to do than yes it is an option. I can't tell you what to do.

You would have to assume liability so it is under one account, in order to transfer upgrade
