Give it to me straight. Is this bad service?

Yes... But that's what you get for being on sprint...
Here is a test of my One X on At&t network

Can't say all of Sprint is bad. The upload on this one is some what slower than I normally get.

That is so nice to see. What are your 3g speeds looking like?

My 3g speeds are horrible. I'm lucky to hit .5 mb down, and up is almost non existent. I'm one of the fortunate ones to have consistent 4g coverage in my area. Where I'm at Verizon and AT&T hasn't yet got 4g coverage.

If you're using the OEM ROM that came with the phone, then the bars you see have no correlation to your 3G signal strength. The bars on OEM ROMs show 1x voice signal, and only 1x voice signal, even when it says you're connected to 3G (or 4G for that matter, on LTE phones).

I'm not sure what the Sprint situation is in MO, so you could have had a great signal and terrible speeds, but there's also a good chance you just had a bad signal at the time of the test.

0.55 Mbps down isn't bad for Sprint. (I just learned they advertise 600 kbps as their average 3G speed). But compared to other US carriers, it's pretty bad. Hopefully these network vision updgrades get done soon.

Now 0.09 Mbps is bad by any standards (even Sprint's).

True, but from what I understand the way the towers are setup, 1x and 3G signal strength usually are pretty similar.

True, but from what I understand the way the towers are setup, 1x and 3G signal strength usually are pretty similar.

That depends on whether or not you're connected to the same tower for both connections. You may be connected to a close tower for voice and have full bars, but you could be connected to a farther tower for 3G and have bad speeds. Even if you are connected to the same tower for both connections, the 3G signal will always be weaker based on the fact that it carries more data. When you stuff more data in the same frequency (1x and 3G share the same spectrum), the signal is much more fragile and prone to interference and distance. This all applies to LTE as well. Even though it runs at the same frequency as 3G and 1x, it carries a lot more data, so it doesn't travel as far. There's a good chance that when you're completely leaving your coverage area while connected to LTE, you will see it change from 4G to 3G before dropping to 1x and finally losing signal completely.

Lets hope this buyout of 70% of Sprint will give the much needed money to fund the LTE rollout and improve the current 3g speeds.

Here's my recent tests some are good for sprint where I live in elyria, Ohio.

Here is att's 3G speeds HSPA+. How I don't miss Sprint! :-P

HSPA+ is truly 3G not 4G! Also notice its not 4GLTE.

Umm these are the sprint forums why are you posting here you should be posting in the att forums if your so happy with their ridiculously overpriced, and extremely limited plans.

Because people are comparing. I enjoying paying for a plan that I can use first and for most. I used to have Sprint so I know the pains of the slow network speeds. With that being said my post was made to open the eyes of others that there are other choices out there if they are not happy with their speeds AND if the other carriers have good coverage in their area. If you enjoy Sprint then stick with them. Oh and my plan is only $10 more a month but it works 90% of the time for me. But again if your happy paying $10 less for a lot less coverage then go for it. Its your choice.

There's Sprint true 4G LTE, now shoo!

But seriously, people are well aware that most of Sprints data markets are suffering now and that currently all the other carriers are ahead. So posting in this forum about is trolling.

Yes I am trolling here. By simply posting a picture of a speed test. Got it. Yet its funny how I have many posts in the Sprint area with thanks and what not. Think what you will.

Anyways I am glad your one of the few in a Sprint LTE area. With the recent news of the buy out of Sprint I believe they will improve quickly and catch up in no time. Att's LTE is also still very behind. The point of my post is that there are options that people need to look at. I think the op will get that point. However if they are happy with Sprint then continue to give them your business. Simple as that.

I would also like to point out that I was also agreeing with you on part of what you said and that I was only stating my opinion on the matter. I have not been hostile in any way nor do I plan too. I understand that we may all have different opinions. So don't take my post as "trolling". Sorry to the op for getting off topic.

Lets just note: Sprint is still projected to finish its LTE rollout long before AT&T (which hasn't even set a date on competition of LTE over its entire network).....So lets not get overly Gloat-ee, AT&T has a history of being behind...AT&T works for you, Verizon works for other...Sprint works for some....

Wonder how its going to shake out once all 3/4 Networks are solid on LTE coverage and Cost comes back into play as it always does...I see Sprint recapturing a lot of what they lost during the NV build out...people that left for Verizon and ATT are pretty much there until Sprint gets its NV together...Think of it as a Detour, while the Main Road gets new Pavement..

Not sure how you took this but I just said att is far behind. But I'm ok because HSPA+ for me works great! So your right they might be ahead in the LTE game but I'd rather have a stronger back bone currently it works out better over all I think. 6-10 meg down work fine for me. But again if Sprint works for you then go for it by all means. The op was complaining about the 3G coverage. I was simply comparing the two as I had Sprint up until 6-7 months ago. Again everyone has different needs.
