Is TMobile's $30 4G plan gone?

I just visited the T-Mobile store today. I asked about the $30 plan and the guy didn't know what I was talking about. I ended up going with the $50 500 Mb plan, figuring I could change it later. I remembered seeing the $30 online, so when I got home I looked it up and sure enough its there. I chatted with a T-mobile rep online:

T-Mobile: We have received your information and will connect you with a T-Mobile Chat Specialist soon.
Juliaana M: Hi there Jason. I will do my best to help you out with your concern. Are you trying to switch your rate plan?
You: yes.
Juliaana M: Okay. May I please have the 4 digit PIN on your account?
You: XXXX
Juliaana M: Thanks. You're trying to change your rate plan right? What rate plan would you like to have?
You: $30: 100 minutes talk | Unlimited text | First 5GB at up to 4G speeds
You: shown here: Prepaid Cell Phone Plans, No Annual Contract | Monthly 4G | T-Mobile
Juliaana M: Okay. One moment please.
You: no problem
Juliaana M: Thank you.
Juliaana M: Thank you for patiently waiting Jason. As I checked here, your rate plan is a Pay By the Month rate plan. We have specific requirements for you to have the rate plan that you want whic is the $30 monthly with Unlimited and Text (5GB up to 4G). The kit should be purchased in Walmart for you to have this rate plan.
You: So it can only be purchased at Walmart, not through the Tmobile store or online?
Juliaana M: That's correct Jason.
You: If I do this, will I still be a Tmobile customer?
Juliaana M: Yes Jason. Even if you purchased the kit in Walmart, you are still considered as T-Mobile customer.
You: And I can pay my bill through tmobile.com? and use this help service?
Juliaana M: Yes.
You: Is my bandwidth handled differently? In other words is the 4G that I have now as fast as the 4G I'd have through Walmart?
Juliaana M: Yes.

In the end, I couldn't get a refund on my SIM card or my first payment. So, after this month I'll be heading to Walmart. Has anyone had success getting T-mobile to switch them to the $30 plan over the phone? I'm kind of bummed out and a little confused.

I signed up for the $30 5gb service online. Then I walked into a brick and mortar t-mo store and had them port my old Sprint number into the prepaid plan. So, you could sign up for the $30 plan either online with a SIM you ordered from t-mo or get the sim and activate it through Walmart. Then you could walk into a t-mobile store close to when you're $50 plan is up for the month and have them port your number over to the $30 plan and cancel your $50 plan.

You guys gotta get off TMobile and get on a real carrier!

I have no complaints. I was paying $50 for Sprint, which has better in-building coverage in the city where I live and better coverage overall in rural areas. But I got tired of top speeds of 130 kbps, one WiMAX site for a city of 60-plus square miles and constant assurances that upgrades -- including LTE -- were coming, so I dumped Sprint in February. TMO HSPA is plenty fast for my needs, and I'm saving $20/month.

If I were you, I'd just order a micro sim directly from tmo's web site today. When it comes, go online, get a new number and select the $30 5gb plan. This is why the first thing I did when I got this phone was port my primary cell number to Google Voice. Now I can get a sim from any carrier whenever I want and not worry about my phone number constantly changing. You just forward the new number to your GV number and all your contacts ever see is the same phone number they have always associated with you.

Unless their policy has somehow changed overnight, this is a good example of a rep that has no idea what they're talking about. Follow the links in this thread, you'll find the $30/5GB plan available online. Since you're not technically a "new" customer, try what greydarrah suggested and buy a new SIM online, and activate the $30 plan with it. Then port your old number. You might have to call T-Mobile at some point, but they should do it for you since the previous rep was not truthful with you. I know people have had success with this in the past.

I actually the other night asked if I could use the sim card activation kit I got on T-mobile.com to activate my phone online with the $30 plan and the rep said I could. I got a bunch of these kits when they were free. Anybody know if I could transfer devices on this plan or would I be stuck with one device once im activated?

Never-mind, Talked with a rep and they said I can transfer devices as much as I want as long as it takes the same Sim card otherwise I would have to buy a new Sim.

I am on a real carrier and that is T-Mobile.

I had Verizon and had so many dropped calls and I had no data at home.

I had AT&T with no dropped calls and no data at home

I have T-Mobile with no dropped calls and excellent data at home. For me there is no better carrier.

Why do I have to buy a new SIM card to do this?

You can't resuse sim cards to create new accounts. You always need a new unused sim card.

they still have it, the $30 100 talk 5 gig. call their customer service. that is what I had to do and they gave it to me.

I just want to know what happens after you've used the 100 included minutes. Can you buy more minutes only, buy a whole new $30 card including everything, pay per minute ,or communicate by txt and email only? I rarely go over 100 minutes but there are months that I do. Just like to know my options.

And, does this plan include tethering? or is that only postpaid that include the tethering?

If you have money left in your account, it will start deducting $.10 per minute. If you have no more money, no more calls till the new month starts.

None of the prepaid accounts include tethering but you can add it for $15. Only the "postpaid" accounts include 250MB free tethering.

So the $30 plan plus add a $10 card or similar for overages? Does that rollover month to month until the $10 is spent or is that additional card expired after a month? Guess you could always go online and add $$ if you hit 100 minutes. This is an awesome deal. Thanks

Yes, the left over money will carry over to fund part of the next months $30 charge. So if you have $8 left, you will only be charged $22+ tax for the next months fees.

Was just able to get the plan....on LG Neuxs 4

Purchased Nexus 4 Ebay

Purchased Micro Sim Tmobile Activation Ebay

Purchased 30$ refill ( it was from Walmart but do not think it matters where it is purchased )

activated phone and asked for 30$ 100 minutes 5 gb plan and was setup with phone number in minutes

only getting 3g connectivity but we are in a high rise timeshare condo with thick walls so it might be hampering the connectivity, will try it outside tomorrow

pleased with this set up

thanks to all in this forum for posting how to do this procedure

Technically, no, but I've used it that way in a pinch. Worked fine. Other users have been redirected to a page that offers the tethering plan, but so far I haven't, probably because all I did was email rather than browsing and bandwidth-intensive stuff.

I purchased the Nexus 4, got the sim from T-Mobile store and $30 pre paid card from walmart. I called T-Mobile prepaid to active the plan and they said my phone wasn't purchased at Walmart I could not get the $30 deal. Anybody have any idea's what I should try now?
