Issues since March Update with Android Auto

Since the March update on my Pixel 7 Pro, it occasionally (NOT consistently) restarts when connecting to AA in my 2019 Atlas.

There's a new development as of last night. After the reset, it doesn't detect AA on the phone and my phone says my VW is not a compatible accessory (or something to that effect.)

Due to my horrible dependence on navigation and my daughter's dependence on Spotify in the car, I can't let this continue.

Any advice?

A little confused here... what is restarting randomly? The phone itself? Or Android Auto?
When you say 'reset', did you factory reset on the phone? Or you meant re-start of the phone/app?

The first thing I'd try is to remove the AA connection from both your car's list as well as your phone's and start over. That usually fixes a lot of common issues. Another thing to consider is, are you adding AA via a wired connection or wireless?

Sorry - the phone itself is restarting. It's just a normal total restart. My android auto head unit doesn't restart. It's not an app restart.

It's also a wired connection. I know it needs to be a high quality cable. I learned that a long time ago and I'm using a pretty hefty Anker cable right now. It was the cable I used for all the months that it was working (prior to the March update.)

So, somehow I can go into my car and delete my phone and re add it? Is that what you mean? I have to look into that.

Yup, I'd try that first (you can go into the Android Auto settings and remove previous connections). The phone reboot thing, however, might be an Android Auto bug (I did hear of reports of connections slowly lagging until the phone can't take it anymore and disconnects or gets too heated). I would also try, if you have one, a different cable (although this would more likely exhibit issues with stuttering and random disconnects, not necessarily phone reboots, but you never know). A cable may be high quality, but car conditions, especially if the cable is left out of a compartment, can get pretty heated up, have sun damage, and most commonly, bend/connector issues with the constant plug/unplug/movement of a device in the car.

I think I have the same issue, pixel 7 and VW head unit, it just reboots in the middle of my way and after the phone reboot I have to reset USB connecting from just charging to data transfer/ android auto. It's very annoying
