Issues with static, crackles, pops, and squeals during calls

Did you get a chance to go into a store and demonstrate your findings and see if they could delete your account?

Of course when I went to the store it didn't make a single weird noise! I replicated the problem with customer service over the phone though and he clearly heard the issue. He tried clearing my number from their system and then putting it back on. No luck. He said they're going to analyze my calls and the network in my area and get back to me. They tried that before and determined I needed a prl update which of course did nothing. Not sure if they'd be willing to completely deactivate then reactivate my account. If they find nothing after their investigation, I'll push for that. The mystery continues..

I bought my G2 on 10/22 in Columbus, OH. I was a little nervous after reading this thread, but so far after using it for a few calls, I have not experienced any call quality issues either using the handset or over my bluetooth car audio system. I will add that the sales rep at the Verizon store mentioned that the sim card from my Galaxy S3 would work, but they have newer "nfc-enabled" sim cards they are supposed to use in the G2s. In fact, my G2 came with one already installed, but he had already scanned a new "nfc" sim from is inventory, so he gave me the one that came with it. I have no idea if the sim card has anything to do with the problems being experienced. The rep also looked in his system for any known complaints/issues with the G2 and he saw a ticket open for audio quality issues during calls. He didn't really have any more info to provide.

Unfortunately changing sims doesn't work. I've been through about five of them including a non NFC one from my GNex.

FYI, I sent the following note directly to LG. I plan on sending something similar to Verizon as well:

Issues with static, crackles, pops, and squeals during calls
I had to return my LG G2 to Verizon because of call quality issues. I got a second one and had to return it as well for the same issue. I loved the phone in every other way, and was very disappointed to have to return it. Would love to buy it again if you could fix this issue. Here is the issue described in this post: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...tatic-crackles-pops-squeals-during-calls.html I so hope you can address this issue and if you could let me know if and when you do, because this is the only phone I want to own that Verizon carries right now!!!

FYI, as I stated, I sent letters to both LG and Verizon Corporate (hard copy letter to Verizon) and I got a response back from both:

Verizon's response today 10/25/13:

Tyler from the Verizon correspondence team called me today in response to my letter and said they have confirmed that this specific LG G2 call quality problem is a known issue and they are working with the vendor (LG) to try to figure out what is causing it. He said that this issue isn't effecting all G2's, only some of them and was sorry that I had experienced this problem. Says he doesn't have an ETA for resolution at this point but said keep checking back with this forum (since I gave him the link to it in my letter) or keep calling Verizon customer service to check on it.

LG's response on 10/10/13:

Thanks for updating us. Glad you made the effort. Wow, LG is the king of useless responses. I reported the issue to them also and got two idiotic questions from them, then a similar useless response.

Any luck getting VZW to waive the restocking fee?

Not sure yet, the employee said it would be added to the bill at the end of the month (we'll see about that). It was weird, he said he couldn't refund me the $30 upgrade fee, but gave me the $35 restocking fee back in the store. I originally upgraded for $242 ($200 phone +$30 upgrade +$12 tax), got refunded $212 (phone + tax, not charged $35 restocking fee).... and he said the extra $30 upgrade fee refund would be credited to my bill at the end of the month. Lesson learned - they can easily waive the restocking fee.
On a side note - when I talked with customer service and with the store employee, they both told me my upgrade eligibility would be restored after returning the phone. As I check online and by dialing #874, I am told I am not eligible for another 2 years... looks like I have to make a call :/

I was thinking of upgrading to the Galaxy S4 for $140 at Walmart - anyone have thoughts on the S4 (I have seen threads that people say they don't like it for obvious reasons... which aren't obvious to me right now...) or upgrading a phone at Walmart? Am I crazy thinking of upgrading to a phone that is almost 8 months old now?

Verizon just sent out an update from Samsung to fix the Note 3 issues. If you look back I had the G2 when this started happening and decided after 2 G2's to get the note 3 and ran into the same problem. The update has thus far fixed the issue so I believe it is something to do with certain VZW accounts with the new S800 processor. Hopefully LG can figure it out too and send out a fix soon. I wish the best of luck to everyone who is dealing with the issue. If my note 3 starts to have the issues again I will let everyone on here know.

Thanks, sbguy! I'm holding out hope that the update that LG is supposedly prepping will include a fix for this issue.

Edit: I'm referring to the kit kat update rumor that's been making the rounds of the tech sites the last 2 days.

I have the sprint variant and am dealing with same issues. Had the HTC one, sold it for this phone, now I have popping and crackling. Have done numerous resets (soft and hard) nothing helps. Call sprint CSR ,useless, call a corporate store near me and they tell me they haven't even been trainedoon this phone and aren't equipped to troubleshoot. Phone comes out tomorrow with them. They tell mebwait and see if this becomes a widespread problem. Lg told me to send back to them and they'll fix or replace, problem is,I sold my backup phone and can't go 2 weeks without one. I use phone for business on a daily basis. I wonder if it could be a CDMA related problem, beingbsprint and Verizon are both CDMA. No problems with gsm variants that I have read.

I just bought the g2 yesterday and am also having this problem. Sucks too because this phone is awesome besides that! Time to call Verizon and add to the rest of the complaints and see what they say. I am also in Maryland like 2 of the other people in here that are having issues.

Just wanted to add my story. Just took my G2 back to my local VZN store and demonstrated this audio issue. Fortunately, it was as horrible as I've ever heard it. She brought out another G2, set it up, and we tried another test call with the same results. The CSR began asking questions of other reps, and even called their MGR who was out for the night already. He admitted that he had heard other locations having issues but also that there are several locations that have had no returns with this issue.

The CSR went through 2 additional G2's with the same results. So we had 4 total G2's lined up, all replicating the same problem, proving that at the minimum there are definitely 'batch' issues, as they just received all of these in the same shipment last Friday. In case this helps the batch IMEI numbers we were dealing with all began with : 990002592******.

Well, I left with an S4 which I know doesn't have the great G2 specs, but I at least know my other Samsungs have worked great on VZN. (It does have a great looking screen and nice 13mp camera as well -minus OIS of course) I really wanted this G2 to work, but unfortunately I do indeed need to use it as a phone sometimes, and these batches simply have a horrible issue. I hope they do find a fix via an update or something, but for me I'll always be hesitant of leaving the big players again (IMO: Samsung and Apple).

I'm also having this issue with my verizon G2. I brought my phone back to the store on Tuesday, and they fed-exed me a replacement phone the next day. Unfortunately that phone had the same reception problems. I spent several hours on the phone with both verizon and LG, without any resolution. I really love this phone, but i do use it a lot to make phone calls, and it's getting harder and harder to do that.
This morning i brought both G2s back to verizon and the woman helping me could not hear the static. The manager said the same thing. I was so angry i had to leave the store.
All they could offer me was another replacement phone.
I suggested they check out some forums including their own because I'm not the only person with this issue.
I hope it's fixed soon. I really don't know what else do.

I am experiencing this crackling issue with my LG G2 on Sprint's network as well. It's not just Verizon.

Switched out for a new g2 and of course the problem still exists. This Tuesday is the last day of my 14 day period. If i don't see some type of acknowledgment by Monday, the s4 it is our i might just reactivate my old razr m until they sort this thing out. It's a shame to because other then that the phone is incredible.
