I've got the LG G Watch R, you've got questions. Let's do this.

I don't really understand all this hoopla over an ambient light sensor. It's been raining here so I can't really vouch for the view in sunlight but I am having no issues. The watch spends a lot of time in the dimmed battery saving mode anyway. You know, it is a watch. I think people expect that they will be constantly on their watch all day messing with it, when in reality after the curiosity wears off it will be a watch that you look at from time to time when you get a notification. Other rare things you use it for but it won't be your go to device.

As far as the size on the wrist. It's very comfortable and it doesn't look big on my wrist at all. It looks like oversized watches which are in style anyway. I see kids wearing Gshocks that look like they leave a larger footprint than this. I think the build quality is excellent. It actually feels like a watch to me. The battery life on day one drained to about 20% because it was the first day and I obviously used it a lot. Today, I have been wearing it for 3 hours and not messing with it too much and it's at 87%. It should be noted that it charges very quickly. Just like my galaxy gear fit I would sleep with it and place it on the charger while I got ready in the morning and that was enough to keep it going. I suspect I could do the same with this, although it's too big to sleep with imo so I will just charge it over night. It charges very fast though. The bezel does not spin on mine (Korean purchased). The only real complaint I have (may be an LG issue or Android Wear issue) is that when I am away from my phone for too long it doesn't reconnect when I get back with in range. THe galaxy gear fit always reconnected no matter how long I was away. I am a teacher and when I get back to my desk I have to repair the watch every time. That is quite annoying. If any of the AC guys know if this is normal or there is a fix for it please let me know. Any other questions fire away peeps.

Swiping on the screen with the bezel is still no problem. Quite easy to do...

Not sure if this was directed at me but I never said anything about the Moto 360.

Never mind it appears this wasn't directed at me...

Not sure what a pulse rate monitor is. It can get your heart rate from the normal fit app that comes in Android Wear. No idea if it is accurate as I don't have one that actually attaches to your chest. Just tested mine and it's 60bpm.

Yes, fitness functions of the watch has not been really described in any review.

Specs say that it has barometer/altimeter. Is it capable of counting stairs climbed (as my FitBit Force). Would be really intrested in that feature and some screenshots (if possible).

Do the fitness functions need a permanent connection or do they cache info locally and transfer to the phone when in range so that in theory you coul run without your phone and still have data when you get back to pair with your phone?

Do you like it ??
yea its p cool

No one is talking about the charger, Is it a dock? Is it wireless charging? How fast is the charging? Is the battery easy to change?
It's like the OG G Watch charger, but round.

When is the release date in the UK?
dunno

How accurate would you say the fitness sensors, barometer and etc are? Is it really 1.75 in end to end??
Can't talk about the barometer, but the pedometer seems about as accurate as previous Android Wear watches.

If you had to choose this or the Moto 360, which one would ALEX choose and why ?
Still too early to decide. The battery life was what scared me off the 360.

I personally just want to know when I can order one in the US :( The wait is killing me...

Could you take a photo of it laying flat next to the pebble for comparison?
thanx
Danny
Will include a few comparison pics in the review. The thickness is about the same -- though the GWaR is of course larger on the wrist.

Does it have a pulse rate monitor?

heart rate monitor, yes, activated through the Fit app.

My question is, how can you possibly not have a Moto 360 and make this post?
Because I did not buy a Moto 360.

Will look into that in the review.

Don't you tired of the watch design after a couple of days?
We'll have to see. Only had it for a day so far.

Right now the Fit stuff doesn't go anywhere, because the Google Fit app for phones isn't available. :/

Would you buy one, Alex?
Maybe. That's a question for the review after I've used it some more.

Is there a price for this thing yet? If not, what would be a fair price for it? I'm done with this OG Galaxy Gear and love the looks of this. I just hope Android wear is great.

Hi Alex,

Thank you for this. I guess my questions are:
  1. As has been asked already but I don't think answered - if there is no connection with a phone what functions will remain on the watch - will it just act as a standard watch or any other functions - like holding a certain amount of reminders in local memory (24 hours worth for example) - maybe too early to tell and possibly this could be something for an app to take care of.
  2. Most of the watch faces I have seen do make it look like a screen rather than a watch face - I guess it is a lot down to the design but could it pass for a standard watch or does it glow just a little too much for that?
  3. Does it seem to pair well with the phone - quickly and easily. And what is the approximate range that will keep the two connected?

Thanks Alex.

Can you use chronometer/timer without a connected phone? What are other functionalities available without a phone?

Are you able to access the heart rate monitor on the LG GWaR with other apps (MapMyRun, Runtastic, etc) like a regular BT HRM?

Thanks,

Eric "GuitarEC"

lmfao they wanted to know if the crown turned bro not the bezel, the crown is the little knob/button on the side of the watch

Sorry, my mistake. I don't know why but I thought he meant the bezel. The bezel does not budge/turn on the one I used. The crown does turn but does absolutely nothing.when turning. The short of it is that it seems that the whole watch was designed around how to hide the display drivers like the moto 360 flat tire. But in the process they created some other problems. #1 - the screen is small because of the bezel, #2 - if you have big/fat fingers, the bezel gets in the way of swiping, and #3 - no place for the ambient light sensor like the moto 360. IMO, the moto 360 is the better watch and it could be a lot better on a 2nd generation with a better cpu and better battery, NFC and a few add on sensors.

BTW, I don't work or know anyone who works for motorola. I'm just a happy owner of the moto 360 and purchased it with my own money (in other words nobody gave it to me). BTW, the latest update of Android Wear improved battery on the moto 360 by about 30%. It easily lasts a day even with very heavy use. So the battery is not even an issue. The better battery that I'm talking about on a 2nd generation is so that the watch can last multiple days (preferably a week but 2-3 days would be a good first step).

Lary, whilst it is sweet of you to share your feelings on the LG GR and the Moto 360, this is Alex's thread where he has suggested he will answer everyone's questions. I don't think any questions have been aimed at you. It also seems clear that you are very keen to knock the LG GR when compared to the Moto 360 that you own. I think I probably speak for a few on here when I ask if you could politely allow Alex to continue answering the questions to him on this thread that he started.

Perhaps you might like to start a new thread called Why I think the 360 is and will be better than the LG G Watch R.

Many of us interested in the LG GR have already researched the 360 as a direct competitor and are now wanting to find out more about the LG GR - could you respect that.

The Google fit apk is floating around online. OP, could you grab it and see if it captures health information from the watch? It isn't for me

Thanks for this thread, Alex!
3 questions:
  • does the seconds hand sweep or tick (e.g. like a mechanical or like a quarz watch)
  • can you tell us anything about the glass protecting the screen? is there anything to be found on the box, e.g. a gorilla glass sticker or similar?
  • does the 20 in the picture you posted indicate the date/day of month or the current hour?
Thanks!

After day two of normal use the battery life is definitely sufficient. I put it on the charger last night before bed after wearing it all day and it was at 47%. I'm still really enjoying it and already looking at getting a new band for it. The current band is great, I'm just thinking of styling up some. I'm hoping I can find an actual wide cuff band that fits it.
