Keep track of 3G data outages here for Virgin Mobile

I'm at better than 24 hours without 3G now. Are the rest of you folks back to a "stable" connection?

mines stable but slow as can be like always. I used gps on a 2 hour drive today with no problems

I got my LG Optimus V yesterday , and 24+ hours later, I have not been able to get on at all, not even with Virgin Mobile resetting the network, me turning airplane mode off-on, pulling the battery, turning the phone off-on. Absolutely NOTHING works. (Phone calls & texts are okay, and Wi-Fi is fine, but not Virgin Mobile data.)

A 2nd phone call today confirmed: an outage is in effect. But for how long? Good Lord.

My data was down most of last night as well. From 7pm to 1am EST. I tried toggling airplane mode, reboot, battery pull, activate app, and no luck. It came back up this morning around 10am. I still have time to return my Optimus since this has been happening to me daily and it seems like virgin mobile doesn't care.

Same thing happened to me..

Try to leave work and see relative that was hospitalized and in ICU. Pop up the navigation App so I can rush to hospital....All I hear is "No Data"

Getting very frustrated because every time I have needed data for something important, it goes down.

Between the phone dropping data connection and the service constantly being out I am glad I did not port from T-mobile yet.

Today, no data in South NJ for a short period.

Got phone yesterday and data has yet to work

Is this the norm? I'm in Hunterdon County, NJ.

I let it go last night because my number was being ported over from AT&T. But this morning, it took 2 calls for Virgin Mobile to fess up that there was a data outage.

I really want to know if this is the norm because a great package means nothing if you aren't getting what it offers.

I've been getting outages for about 6 days now. I talked to VM support and they told me they are doing upgrades and changes. They didnt expect this long of a delay. It was flying this morning then it died around 3pm here in Miami, Fl. Its back up now at 10:00 pm and running at about 500 up 300 down. I bought the phone 1 week ago and may just return it if things do not get better fast.

Here in Miami, Fl woke up at 12:00 noon.....yes that late! lol and its working but slow as molasses. 110 up 185 down. Tested 3 times. I'll test on the road since in my bedroom the signal fluctuates. I will repost when I get back.

Wow, i thought i was the only one with this data connection problems. Mine happens around 3-5 times a day on SLC, UT. when this happens i do the airplane mode on/off, turn phone off/on, turn wifi on/off until something works, it kinda annoying specially when i need the data. It says full bars and 3G never toggles to 1x. 25 bucks a month i still think its the best deal out there for an android device without a contract

...so that's what it is. I've had precisely five minutes data connection in the last two days and when I called Virgin they said they had an 'outage'...and I would have been a lot less mad if she'd used the word 'upgrade'.

Fortunately, I was only doing capability tests on my new phone and didn't NEED data...

Have you guys considered that CS just tells you there is an "outage" or "network upgrade" because they don't want to deal with/know to fix your phone issues? These phones use the exact same network as Sprint. Have you heard similar complaints of outages from Sprint users?

mmarz, I really don't think this number of people in different places would be having the same problem at the same time if it was that...I can't believe we all have broken phones at once.

At work today, I was helping out a friend with their myTouch (4g), and noticed it was getting slow downloads as well. I put my VM Optimus V besides hers, and hit the marketplace buttons at the same time. My Optimus V fully loaded the market before her myTouch did.

I have been experiencing similar 3g issues as the posters in this thread, but they have become less frequent over the past two days (maybe weekend usage is lighter?). Put that together with my side-by-side test with a supposed 4g phone, and I would tend to believe the CS's responses about network upgrades. We know that each of the major networks is currently revising their hardware for the future 4g (or 3g+ etc) upgrades, so perhaps we are just experiencing the associated pains.

BTW- I have never seen greater than 2mbs speeds on any 3g network, just my personal experience here in Vegas.

It *almost* seems as if the issues are being resolved west to east...well. I am liking the phone a lot, and I don't care about speed, just reliability.

The rumor circulating is that Sprint is doing physical hardware upgrades on the towers.

Well, I say this because not everyone has an outage issue. So for some reason, you guys cannot connect, but other VM customers can connect. It seems unlikely that the problem is system wide. I'm not saying that there isn't an issue. I'm suggesting that VM's CS is so terrible that you cannot rule out the fact that they could be lying about an outage and the problem is something systemic with the phones.

Just because a problem is not affecting every single one of VM's customers at once, does not mean it is not a real problem. The issues are, per VM's Facebook page, affecting Optimus and Intercept phones equally (but not hitting Blackberries as badly...perhaps the Blackberry can handle low signal/bandwidth better than a droid phone?)

@JennaP- He was saying it may not be a "system" problem, he never said it wasn't a "real" problem.

A system problem would affect everyone simultaneously, an upgrade to the system, especially if it's a hardware upgrade, would affect people regionally.

The point of this thread is not to determine "if" there is a problem, but rather "where" there are problems to see if we can track them and determine for ourselves what the issue is rather than relying on uneducated customer service reps with standard responses.
