Launcher Pro makes the Fascinate the phone it should be.

1.) Just install and use.

2.) Nope - just uninstall and you're back to TW. You can also use Home Switcher - that I demonstrated in the video - to switch back and forth between the two.

Great, Thanks, Cory!

Here you go. Aside from that, just click through the various settings and see what's available. There are also icons and themes you can download for the market that are designed to work with Launcher Pro.

Good job. Now I just have to go out and find those cool widgets, clocks and themes for it.

The task manager that comes on the fascinate has a widget which I like and use, but it is under the samsung widget list. is that one avalable under launcher pro?

It is not. You could create a shortcut that opened the task manager easily, but it wouldn't display the number of running tasks like the Samsung widget does. That's the one big minus of 3rd party launchers, is the inability to use the widgets that Samsung includes and are designed to run inside the Touchwiz launcher.

If I have the free version and want to upgrade to the full version, is it simply a matter of downloading it and away I go or will I have to set it up all over again?

Have to admit, if my Fascinate didn't have bing shoved up it's *** I never would have even looked for a 'fix', and maybe never would have found Android Central. So bing has that going for it.

Actually, it's a little different for LP Pro. You purchase through the website and they give you an unlock code. All you do is put the code in at the Unlock Launcher Pro in the Preferences and there you have it.

Also, I haven't seen much mention of the included widgets with LPP. Not only is the People widget great, but the Twitter and Facebook widget are the best I've seen and do nothing to your battery.

I installed LP on my Fascinate, and having come from a Droid Incredible, I feel it's almost a necessity. Much quicker, more intuitive, and customizable than TouchWiz. Wins in all catagories.

However, I had to uninstall it yesterday. After playing with it for over an hour, getting all set up to my liking, weird things started happening. Shortcuts would lose their icons, and I also somehow got two shortcuts stuck under the bottom bar, and halfway off the screen. I could NOT get rid of them, and couldn't find any help online.

So I uninstalled it, but I plan on reinstalling it and re-setting it up when I have the time. Hopefully it won't flake this time.

That's very strange indeed. I haven't seen any buggy behavior from it.

Just a reminder to everyone. If you decide you want to use LP, go into each of the TW homescreens and delete all icons and Widgets that are currently there. This will ensure they are not running in the background, resulting in better battery life and optimal performance.

i understand the widgets but why would the icons be considered running in the back ground?

Anything that is on your screen will be taking up processing power to display the icon and shortcut. It's minimal, but why wouldn't you want to get rid of absolutely everything before switching to LP? Widgets definitely.

I had that happen and read somewhere (I can't find it now) that you have to set shortcuts by opening the apps drawer and long-pressing the app, then place it on the page. If you do it by long-pressing a blank spot on a page and then selecting the app it loses the icon when you power off. At least that's the way it appeared to happen on mine.

The only thing that i kind of dont like about LauncherPro is that whenever you make a change (add page or what not), the icons that you placed on your screens revert back into the green Androip app icon

There seems to be a backup option that should save your settings, but there seems to be a warning with it too...

Other than that, it is a great app. Plunked down the money for the full version :)

ADW also allows you to hide icons in the app drawer. I just discovered this :)

I wonder if I should go ahead and root to actually remove some things from the system/app folder to free memory? Might just wait to see what happens. Hiding works pretty good for now.

So when the froyo update comes what effects will that have on an installed launcher? Will the launcher need to be installed, then update to froyo, then reinstall launcher? Thanks don't really understand how this works.

I think I'm gonna give it another whirl.. Didn't like it too much the first time around but a lot of people swearing by it..guess its worth another try..

Most of the time updates will carry over settings and apps. However, eclair to froyo is a significant change. I believe the update will wipe all system data and apps off your phone to start clean. You can back up your apps with Astro, or Titanium Backup if you are rooted.

Thanks xliderider. Looks like froyo upgrade will take some work no matter how the phone is set up, might as well get rid of bing now. DL'ed launcher pro, seems cool. Need to read up and get rooted...Wish M$ would have saved the money they used to get verizon to bother us with bing, and spent it on providing relevant search results...
