Launcher Pro makes the Fascinate the phone it should be.

The only Launcher Pro I can find in the market is free??? Is that the correct one? I thought someone had said that there is a free version and a paid version and the paid version was better.

Look at the post above yours.

Once you download the free version of launcherpro you have a link to launcherpro plus :)

What I was clarifying was if there was a Launcher Pro "free" and "paid" version and also a Launcher pro plus!!!! Everyone seems to call it something different. I just wanted to make sure I was getting the correct one. :p .i..

If you don't like the question don't watse your precious time commenting on it!

I am trying LP and it isnt too bad. Do have a problem with the dock when I press the phone or calendar icon I get a "Could not launch requested activity" message. Is this due to it being the free version? Anyone else have this problem?
Having the same problem as briang00, I get a "Could not launch requested activity" message when I press the calender icon. Anyone else have this problem? Would really like to use LP but with this hic-up don't really want to switch just yet and I do have LP Plus.

The default icons that come with LauncherPro (free and paid) don't work with every phone. Long press on the icon to change the action. Pick the application to launch and change the icon yourself and it should be good to go.

I was able to change the message icon to the camera icon but when I pressed the camera icon the next window that came up was the "write a new message" window, nothing changed! I know I must be doing something wrong but can't figure it out. Once I install LP, do I need to go into the other launcher screens and wipe everything out?

After being on this forum for like... 24 hours, maybe less, I went and got Launcher Pro. Mainly it was because of the hands on video. I had no idea you could hide apps with it. That was the seller for me. I hate Verizon's bloatware. :/

Highly recommended. I also bought LPI (Launcher Pro Icons) which I don't regret.

Maybe this forum will answer my question. But I have had problems with the Google Search widget on LP. After I do a search, the widget will move up to the top of the screen and won't work. My weather channel one does it once in a while too. Does anyone know a solution

I installed LP on my Vibrant. I know it's there (under "Applications"), but it is not showing anywhere, so I can get it to start. What gives?

have you tried just hitting the "home" button? .. if memory serves me correctly, my phone kept asking me which launcher I wanted to use as default until I explicitly told launcher pro to be default.

if that's not helping, there's a Home Switcher app on the market that's really handy in switching back and forth.

this isn't really an answer to your question.. but, I removed the search widget from home screen entirely.. since I have a capacitive button dedicated to search I don't see the point of the redundancy.

It might be good to restate exactly what your trying to accomplish..

I'm going to assume you want to change a Dock App:

long press the dock icon you want to change, select "Change Shortcut".. then either one of the shortcuts listed, or select Applications to select an app;
after selecting the app you should be prompted to select which icon you want to see, either the default one for that app, or one of the launcher pro icons, or custom.. once you select the icon, your done.

if this isn't what you're trying to accomplish, please explain better.

TouchWiz vs LauncherPro(1st time smartphone owner)

First time smartphone owner. Two week old Facinate.
Other than some temporary freezes when ending a call and some reception problems(low signal almost always around -96dB) I like it.

Everyone keeps saying that TouchWiz is just beyond horrible and I am hoping someone can explain to me why that is. As I stated this is my first smartphone so I don't know how good or bad any UI's are.

I am open to any and all tips as well. I removed the advanced task killer that my damn store put on but other than that I haven't made any changes.(i did download adobe reader and google gps)(google maps is aweful though and puts me about 1/4-1/2 mile from where I actually am, whereas the GPS takes forever but finds my location pretty well).

I am also open to attempting to root my phone if I can get someone patient enough to help me.

TIA!!

I was the same way. I thought TouchWiz was awesome when i got my fascinate. But I didn't know any better.

I finally tried LauncherPro one day and must say it is awesome. You need to take the time and customize everything to your liking otherwise it may not be worth it to you.

But LauncherPro allows your to completely change the look / feel of the phone. Among other things like being able to "hide" all the crap applications that verizon loaded this phone up with that you can't remove.

Take a look at the "screenshot" thread sticky to see what LauncherPro allows you to do. If those screenshots look like something you'd be interested in, then give it a shot. You can always remove it and go back to TouchWiz fairly easily.

Definitely interested, love some of those.
The speed test screenshot, that shows this hummingbird being capable of 2+?! Is that true? If so I want to go all out with this baby but haven't a clue as to how. :(

Welcome to the world of smartphone's and to the forum! I merged your thread with another. I would suggest reading from the first page on. There's even a video demonstrating some of the advantages (based on the opinion of yours truly), that you can watch.

I will.
The one and only real issue is that I use this phone as my only phone(home, work, social) and at home near the door I get -96dB and throughout most of my house it is 101dB. Is this not a strong reception getting phone?

There are other complaints of this, but at least in my case, even when the indicator is low, I still maintain clear legible calls, which makes me thing something is wrong with the indicator/db signal reading.

I am beginning to have the same thought. Especially since the signal ratings on this phone is not a traditional working scale like many others. There are basically only 5 "ratings" you can have.

-86, -91, -96, -101, -106

Now we just need to determine the logic is uses to pick what "rating" to assign. Say you have a true rating of -93 does it display -91 or -96 ....

Chances are it either uses rounding or it always defaults to the next rating... (ie. you have a true signal of -93 but it shows -96. true signal of -100 it shows -101)

We seem to get caught up on our rating or bars available. When we should actually focus on in-use performance. Have you experienced any dropped calls, or not receiving SMS due to coverage etc..

All that said, the fascinate is not the best phone for signal strength. There are other models that have better reception.
