I tried to flash the new CWM red from the first post but when I booted into recovery I still got stock blue and applying update.zip from blue brought me to green CWM. I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing wrong. Help please?

Also, if I remember correctly in the GMail app we used to have pinch to zoom, or at least I definitely did, and I just noticed that we don't anymore. Did anyone else notice this? Or am I completely imagining that I used to have it...

EDIT: nevermind the CWM red/green issue. I fixed it. Still had the old update.zip file on my sd card

I don't remember if we could pinch and zoom, but you can change the text size in the settings if that helps.

I'm not positive about the cwm issue, but from what I understand you may have to go in to your download folder and delete the old update.zip (green) and keep the new one (red).

Ok, I get to step 19 and get to the little android guy with the exclamation point but nothing happens.

I hit the "menu" button to go back and it says:

--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1
(no such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
installation aborted.

The menu options / font is blue, if that helps.

Some quick background:
Started bone stock DL09, wiped and clean. Got this message.
Rooted DL09 for giggles, got this message

when I choose "reboot system now" (using the home button) it reboots and works just fine.

Been trying this off and on for 4 days with the exact same results every time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

So tired of "rebuilding" my phone............ I won't reload all my stuff (LauncherPro / Jorte / etc...) until I get this to work or give up on it...........

Very new here and want to clarify a couple of things before loading Froyo. To start, I am completely stock with the EA28 fix. I have read back quite a few pages and found that having EA28 is ok, but I want to know if I can immediately proceed to step 2 or do I need to flash back to DL09 first? Also, can a non-rooted phone reboot into recovery? Sorry if this has been answered already.

I know it was mentioned early on that tethering shouldn't be attempted unless we're paying for it, but was it ever confirmed that VZW had some new way of detecting it? Just wondering in case I ever need to again.

Issues List:

Problem: "Unable to load message. Message too long" in Exchange emails. It happens on every email; even a 1-word email.
Workarounds: Use a 3rd party email client. K9 is a good solution for POP/IMAP. For Exchange I would recommend Touchdown, or Roadsync. TD being my first choice.

******************

Problem: Flash Player does not work in default browser.
Solution: Open the browser settings and make sure plug-ins are enabled.

******************

Problem: Exchange pin in stock email client does not work.
Workaround: Same as workaround above.

******************

Problem: Pressing the voicemail icon on the dialer screen causes a force close & displays: the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

Workaround: Press and hold the 1 key on the dialer pad to access voicemail.

******************

Problem: Samsung program management widget disappears after a power cycle. It also does this if the phone is locked for an extended period of time.
Solution: None.

******************

Problem: Visual Voicemail App missing.
Solution:

1.) Use CWR to flash VVM.zip.
2.) Use root explorer to copy new VVM files to /apps/system (this will overwrite the the ones installed above - which is what you want).

******************

Problem: The backlight stay awake (when the phone is plugged in) feature is no longer available in Settings>Applications>Development.
Solution: Download a third party application which manages this feature from the Market.

******************

If you're aware of another issue, please post it in this thread.

I followed Cory's directions and flash DL30. Here's what I have:

Firmware: 2.2.1
Baseband Version: DL09
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: DL30

Only problem I've had is that TwLauncher does a force close. I referred to post #5, clear cache, did wipe/factory reset, and that worked. But I havent restored my 3rd party apps via titanium backup. It seems everytime I do, I eventually get a force close for TwLauncher and I have to wipe everything and restore everything. Do I need to reinstall the DL09 tar file, or would a simpler way be to install a different launcher?

I also noticed when I boot into recovery, it's blue. Then I select apply update.zip and it goes to red CWM. But I did notice Voodoo at the bottom of the menu list. Does this mean I have voodoo? And could this be the reason for the force close like Cory said? If so, how do I delete voodoo?

I've been searching the forums, but since this phone doubles as my work phone, I was hoping for a quick answer.

Thanks for any help.

FYI and maybe some one already did this, but the voicemail button on the dialer will work if you add:

VisualVoiceMail.apk and VVMServices.apk

The VM button works fine portrait however you end up FC in landscape*

My observations:

Power Off now has a color screen and has;
Silent Mode
Mobile Data
Airplane Mode
Power Off

I no longer have the ability to Silence the phone via the volume button. It only goes down to Vibrate. Need to figure this one out.

not sure if this has been pointed out, but you can change this in the sound options under settings.

Can I use the same procedure for the super clean rom as well?

Also if anyone is getting signature verification error (I did), make sure that you use the update.zip and DL30-leak.zip without altering the files. I initially thought that you have to unzip them, then I realized that you don't, so I zipped the unzipped files, instead of downloading them again. That caused the signature error...

When you are in the blue cwm you use the home button to choose apply sd card:update.zip. If you are using the power button in blue that is why you are getting the error message. aftery you apply udate.zip and you go into red cwm you use the power button to apply your chosen action.

Also make sure the update.zip file is at the base of your sd card and not in a folder. When you plug your phone into the computer via usb cable and mount the sd card you will probably get an auto play windo that pops up. Choose the option to view folders. That should open up to the base of your sd card. Make sure the update.zip file is here. You should see a bunch of folders here and one of those may be named sd card. Don't put the update.zip file in this folder.

EA28 is basically DL09 with the pushed out fixes from Verizon for the emergency dialing from a locked screen bug. So the basic answer is yes you can start from EA28. But I have been reading where mostly everyone is having fewer problems and experiencing a much smoother upgrade to DL30 when they flash back to DL09.

And no, a non-rooted phone cannot reboot into recovery. You need to flash the .tar files in Cory's instructions to get clockwork recovery. This was all greek to me when I first started doing this a few weeks ago, but with help from the smart people here and a little practice it actually seems pretty easy now. Just be forewarned, it can get very addicting

Once you have followed Cory's instructions in this thread you can download super clean to your sd card, reboot into recovery, apply update.zip to get into red cwm, and install super clean by going to install zip from sd card. Don't forget to wipe data/cache before you flash it though.

In the Upgrade the Froyo steps, for step #4 If you do not have ODIN (or if you don't know what that is), download the attached zipped ODIN file and extract ODIN file to your PC's desktop.

Where is the attatched zipped ODIN file? I'm very new to this whole thing, sorry if it's a stupid question

It's in the "attached files" box at the bottom of that post. It's labeled as "attached.zip" (.zip file). Not a stupid question. We're all here to help each other out right? Hope this helps!

Thank you for the first stab. I should clarify more, it seems:
I am using "home" button in CWM Blue, per instructions ("menu" button to go back)

The update.zip file is at the base of my SD card. Not in the "SD Card" folder. In that particular folder (base) I have things like: bluetooth, DCIM, LOST.DIR, etc...

It's as though the CWM either does not A) recognize the update file for what it is or B)interact with it for some reason

Anybody having issues with Wifi dying? Every once in a while I'll see that I'm not on WiFi at home and it says "on" like you clicked the wifi button in the power control drop down and it just sits there. You have to go into settings to turn it off/on(says Error in settings).

This may be beyond me, since I am still pretty new to this. Everyone else I have helped with a similar issue has been able to resolve it by downloading the update.zip here:

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

Try deleting your current update.zip and downloading this update.zip in it's place. Cory's instructions are dead on and so detailed, and he definitely knows more than I do. But for some reason, like I said above, everyone else who I have helped with this issue has gotten it to work by using this update.zip
