So Can I just Flash the green from DL30? Do I have to re-flash DL30 or will NEW CWM (Green) just go over the red?

EDIT: Flashed to Green. It enters into blue, then if you select install from SD it goes into new green. But no ill-effects showing up in use. So you do not have to re-flash DL30.

Thanks for reporting back. I'm going to try this too.

jt1134 From XDA developers says:
"So the current iterations of cwm seem to have trouble working reliably with the newer froyo ROMs, and koush's recovery (although seeming to work correctly) is quite broken. So......

please find below a new recovery package that should work for any ROM for the fascinate, mesmerize, or showcase.

This recovery is used via fakeflash, ie: it flashes a stock 2e recovery that uses test-keys, allowing you to flash test-key signed update.zips. After installing the recovery, flash update.zip from the stock recovery to get to cwm. The recovery is red, just like the voodoo versions of cwm, but it WILL NOT work with a voodoo installation (yet).

cwm_froyo.zip can be flashed via any cwm recovery, and will place the new update.zip on sdcard for you.

if you are using odin or heimdall, then use the cwm_froyo-odin package. Unzip it, place update.zip on /sdcard, and flash cwm_froyo.tar via odin or heimdall."

Thank you Kevin Gossett

I'm totally confused by this. Who should flash this and in lamens terms why?

I know you guys are trying to make easy for every one to get Froyo on their Fascinate but it seem to me ya'll are making it to confusing. Sorry!

I'm totally confused by this. Who should flash this and in lamens terms why?

From what im reading into it everyone,,,,, red or green older cwm were not designed for DL30 so this should work for everyone after they have installed DL30, WIll it work on anything before hand, i dont know , from what i quoted, (in true xda assumption style, vague) i dont know if it will work from DL09 to DL30 but when i get a chance ill flash it on DL09 and see if it will lead us into froyo

EDIT: this explains alot of the force closes, and what adrynalyne is always talking about koush never finishing cwm

JT says
"/data on the fascinate is on /dev/block/mmcblk0p1

koush's recovery mounts /data as mmcblk0p2 (THIS IS OUR /DATA/FOTA. THAT'S BAAADDD)

under most circumstances this does not matter , because recovery.rc mounts data CORRECTLY before cwm gets to it, but there are circumstances where /data can be unmounted and then remounted, in which case cwm is gonna mount mmcblk0p2. If things get written there, at best you've got a **** load of FC's to deal with. At worst, a dead radio.

I've pointed this out to koush before, but was met with a "half-response", and to date it not been addressed (except for the recoveries that I've posted)"

Okay, testing from the beginning with a freshly flashed DL09.tar.md5. If this works post 6 goes, and post 1 gets this instead, and I'm going to dumb it down a lot more. It's starting to turn into a circus with all these different CWR's - but that's the price of playing I guess! :)

we didnt invent it, dont kill the messanger

I was not trying to kill the messanger, i was just stating an observation.

I know you guys are working your butts off so that everybody can enjoy Froyo. I am just thankful that all has worked well for me and I have not had the problems some others seem to be having.

For some reason Market isn't working for me at all. It boots, but it never populates any search results or any apps to download. So essentially I can't download and install appbrain to reinstall my old apps. Also cant install Titanium backup. Any advice?

I'm posting this section before and after the procedure to update, since so many people are still asking about FC's.

If, after completing the upgrade, you are in a force close loop:

1) Boot into recovery and do a clear cache to fix FC issues. --> Thanks to the member with the cool username:killahamsammich.
2) If that doesn't work try a Wipe Data/Factory Reset in recovery mode.
3) Still not working: Try using ODIN to flash DL09.tar.md5 and then go through the upgrade steps again. If you need them, there are specific steps on how to flash DL09 in post #4 below.
4) Still Force Closing? Do this.

******************************************************************

Now here's how to upgrade to Froyo using CWR GREEN

Notes before you begin: The absolute safest way to proceed is to start with a factory reseted device with no 3rd party apps installed or Voodoo Lag Fix. That is the state my phone was in as I was writing this procedure. Based on numerous posts, If you don't do this, there's a good chance you'll end up at the top of this post between the *'s. I'm also reading issues people are having when restoring data from backup programs. I'm not telling you to not do this, but just be aware of this. I always start clean. If you have used ODIN in the past, and have experience using it, you will breeze through many of these steps. I'm pretty specific for those who are new to all of this. It's worth repeating: if you have Voodoo, I would remove it. If you don't know what Voodoo is, it's unlikely that you have it. You will also need to install the Samsung Drivers before continuing. This procedure is not Mac compatible. Last but not least, no question is a stupid question, regardless of your skill level. There are no shortage of helpful and experienced members in this thread, and there are certified Android Central junkies (those of us with badges next to our names) that are here to help. I know you'd do anything right now for me to stop talking, so here it is:

Please follow these steps explicitly:

1.) Download these 3 files & place them on your SD Card: update.zip, new_cwm.zip, DL30.zip.
2.) Download this file to your PC: CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5
3.) If you do not have ODIN (or if you don't know what that is), download the attached zipped ODIN file and extract ODIN file to your PC's desktop.
4.) If your phone is plugged into your computer, unplug it now.
5.) If your phone is not powered down, power it down now.
6.) Remove battery from phone.
7.) Launch ODIN on PC.
8.) Plug USB cable into phone.
9.) Press and hold the volume-down key.
10.) Plug your Fascinate into the computer via USB cable.

You should now see a gigantic yellow triangle and your phone will be in download mode. You can now release the volume key.

11.) Click on the PDA button in ODIN

Triple check that you pushed the PDA button. Do NOT click the Phone button prior to continuing to step 11. If you choose Phone, you will have bought your Fascinate a one-way ticket to hell.

12.) Choose the CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5 you downloaded in step 2 above & click the Start button.
13.) Phone will power down when finished.
14.) Remove USB cable.
15.) Reinsert battery.
16.) Press & hold the volume up and down buttons at the same time. Do not let go. Now press and hold the power button. You will see the Samsung logo display, disappear, and then reappear. Now let go of all buttons.
17.) You will now see a blue menu.

For the following: volume buttons to select & home button to enter at the end of each step.

18.) Select apply "sdcard:update.zip"
19.) You should now see a green menu (CWR Green)

For the following: volume buttons to select and power button to enter at the end of each step.

20.) Select "install zip from SD card"
21.) Select "choose zip from SD card"
22.) Select "new_cwm.zip"
23.) In about 30 seconds - or less - you will see CWR green again.
24.) Select "go back"
25.) Select "advanced"
26.) Select "reboot recovery"
27.) You will now see a blue menu again.

For the following: volume buttons to select & home button to enter at the end of each step.

28.) Select apply "sdcard:update.zip"
29.) You will be back to CWR green again.

For the following: volume buttons to select and power button to enter at the end of each step.

30.) Select "install zip from sdcard"
31.) Select "zip from sdcard"
32.) Select "DL30.zip"
33.) Select "Yes Install DL30.zip"

When finished -- the phone will reboot and you will have Froyo.

edit: THANKS!
I had to reboot the device and now it's working.
It's the old version still though, I imagine it will eventually update itself to the new version?

Something is killing my battery. Seems something is updating in the background but I can't tell what. The sync symbol keeps popping up in the status bar every so often. I Flashed around 5:30pm with a fresh battery, it's now pretty much dead and i'm topping it back off.

Didn't have any issues with Red, but I guess some people were. =\

Not a huge logical reason for it really, but hey, that's why I'm not developing these things.

Have you tried booting into red yet with the volume up/down + power combo yet?

I went to Super Clean 1.0 yesterday then came back to DL30 today using your directions (with RED) and it worked like a charm.

Basically I did a factory reset then wiped cache, I did Odin to load Red then reloaded DL09, and then DL30. I did all this within 15 minutes.

Much quicker than when I did this on my BB. More steps involved with an Android, but if people read the directions there should be no issues. Oh Sh!t! Did I just admit to reading directions... I'm a loser!

well yeah , i didnt have issues with green , seemingly , thats what JT was saying... but based on the amount of people getting FC's it seems more than likely what he is saying is true , lets see if we get less people reporting FC's
