Let's guess how long our JB official OTA will take!

so july is done and no ota yet for those that arent into rooting...now that i think about it a little more...were not getting jb until the next iphone is announced, possibly released. which is maybe when samsung will announce a new nexus device...this sucks :(

were looking at september at this point.

talked to a VZW agent today, who said Verizon doesn't release the firmware updates, that it comes from Samsung directly. From what I know, VZW is certainly the culprit here and am not sure why the VZW agent would say that. she wasn't a dummy either, was quite knowledgeable and sounded like she knew what she was talking about.

Uh, she's right. Verizon doesn't release the updates, Google actually does.

Updates are only released after testing and approval by Verizon. If Verizon never devotes the resources to test the software for approval, the update won't go out until they do.

Apple seems to be the only one on Verizon who can actually release their own updates on their own schedule without Big Red's interference.

Okay lets help out here. Google does release the cdma version to verizon to test and then gets the green light from Verizon to release the OTA. For Sprint Google works with Verizon and Samsung releases the Sprint Version which is a version of the cdma version that is released to Verizon.

Still when will the cdma version be released?????? I do not want to root and lose my work email. GOOD app

My first Android handset was the HTC Thunderbolt, and held off on rooting for a long time... until I just got fed up with updates(lack thereof) and seeing all the customization that was out there.

When I did start the whole rooting/rom'ng thing it was like a breath of fresh air. I bought a Nexus a couple of months ago, rooted, and never really looked back. I considered going back 'stock' when VZW finally released JellyBean... but since that seems like a 'don't hold your breath' type wish... I'm staying rooted and trusting all the knowledgeable devs out there.

So... a bit off topic... but I guess I'm saying I'd root if you don't want to continually wait on VZW, call the reps, etc. for the JB experience.

Just my $0.02... and I approve this message.

Guys lets stay on topic here: The folks who are waiting for the OTA to be approved by Verizon are well aware of the fact that they can unlock and all that.. they have chosen not to and in some cases can't do it for work reasons or whathaveyou.. We who like to unlock and tinker don't need to contribute to the thread unless there is something meaningful to contribute.

On that note.. I will contribute that I am certain Verizon has had the OTA in testers' hands since mid July or so, when Google announced it would be made available for Nexus devices. I would presume it will be approved for Google to push within 2-3 months... Yes this is just an educated guess. I am also certain that any guess of 5 months or more is just ludicrous, but people can believe what they like :)

I'm going to go with the 5 to 6 month time frame.

Wasn't it 6 months for Verizon to approve their LTE Xoom ICS update?

Very much like the 4.0.4 update or the release of the phone itself, it's likely wiser to steel yourself for 6 months and if it takes that long, fine. If not, then even better

To be fair, 4.0.4 on the nexus took 2 months. However, that has been the only update the phone has seen.

Correct if I'm wrong, which I may be. I thought there was an out of box update which would mean two updates, not one.

The update will come at the very end of this year or next year for sure. Just sit back and enjoy the ride

ok... what about a slight switch up on the op's question... How long do you think it will take before an official build leaks or is soak tested? such as IMM32 or 76K did for 4.04? That is all I really need to be honest..

IMM76K leaked about a month after the GSM push and a month before the toro OTA push

if that is any indicator it should be pretty soon :D

Well said but 6-8 weeks is more standard for Verizon testing time. Sept 1 give or take 10 days is my guess.
