Let's guess how long our JB official OTA will take!

I predict my Galaxy Nexus will get JB before my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (wifi only) gets ICS! I hardly use the tablet anymore because I'm so frustrated that the stock browser won't sync bookmarks anymore and I can't get Chrome on Honeycomb. I can't imagine the Nexus will take longer than that has.

And before you all jump on me, no I haven't rooted/modified/whatever because I don't understand it all and don't have the time to read through all the posts to figure out out. Yes, I'm a n00b, leave me alone. Thanks.

Your galaxy tab will never see ics. And I to have not rooted for the same reason you haven't
So sit back and enjoy the long long long ride.

Middle of September seems appropriate for an official VZW Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean update. If it's not out by then, my guess is we'll never see an OTA of the current build of Jelly Bean. If after 8 weeks of testing VZW still can't release it, then my guess is they found something wrong with it and have to wait for Google to send another update to be tested for another 6-8 weeks. Of course, this is all just my guess... I don't really know how their process works.

Google needs to step in already and fix this. This is ridiculous we should have jelly bean already or at least some type of estimated ETA oh well we have a long long long ride to endure for those of us who don't root.

Google has shown they don't have the slightest interest in fixing what is easily the biggest problem with android in general.

In effect Google did step in. They gave us a Nexus on VZW. This will be the first phone on the network officially on Jelly Bean. It's still a Nexus. The update process can be drawn out, but that's what we pay $200 a month for. Doesn't seem like it will change in the foreseeable future. Love my GNex. It's rock solid. I wasn't going g to root for the first year anyway. I figure 18 mos, then I root and have a new phone.
It will be here before the end of August.

There is no way we see this update by the end of August.

I can understand the need to test things but isn't 6 weeks or more ridiculous when it comes to phone technology? The thing is, a Verizon Nexus is not a real nexus. I'm holding onto another upgrade with Verizon but I will wait to see what plays out with the next Google phone. I'm seriously considering dropping Verizon because of this.

$200 per month? Good grief. I pay nowhere near that.

I bet the official ota will be a while. went heading rooted my phone and downloaded a jelly bean rom got to say its like another phone so smooth and I like the Google search no more waiting for me plus I'm sure I'll get more support from the developers then I will from Verizon :)

I believe it's testing now so it can't be that much longer.

That's what I'm saying I'm done with waiting on vzw the official builds are not as stable as what u will get with loading your own Roms it takes all of three minutes to unlock the bootloader and root the phone then if your lazy just get ROM manager from the play store and click a few buttons and ur good to go

I'm sure those instructions work great if you understand some of the concepts involved already. But I read things like ROM, ROM manager, recovery, root, and go cross-eyed. I tinker on Windows-based computers a lot, but I've learned it gradually over the years, usually testing ideas on old used computers. I do not want to mess up my only phone. Additionally, the instructions say to leave 2 to 3 hours. I generally don't have that much free time in one evening, nor do I want to be without phone call ability that long. Then there's all kinds of stuff about turning off 2 step authentication. I did not have to do that when I got the last OTA update from Verizon. Something is obviously still not completely perfected in this custom update process.

When someone comes up with a way that's as easy as Verizon's OTA update, which also maintains all my settings, app logins, home screen icon locations, 2 step authentication, etc., and does it in 20 minutes without having to read a long set of instructions and just involves a couple "hit next to continue" prompts, I'll think about it. Or, if someone puts together a youtube video with the entire process from scratch (none of this "go to my other video or article if you haven't done this part before"), I might try following along with that.

I paid good money for a phone under the impression that it would get updates quickly. But, like I said, my Nexus will probably still get JB before my tablet gets ICS.
