I've had my phone since release week and it was perfectly fine up until the Lollipop update, which is why this is bugging me so bad. It ruined a perfectly good phone. My signal kind of sucks at work from the fortress that is our building, but usually I am bouncing between 4G or LTE. I don't travel often and I've worked in the same building for the past 5 or so years, so not much has changed besides Lollipop.
I will try to check out that app you listed and see if that sheds any light on what the issue here is.
I think, worst case, I might have to revert back to KitKat and hope that solves some problems because everything worked fine prior to Lollipop.
I even went to the Tmobile store on Friday and he suggested NOT getting a refurbished phone because he said I'm not the first G3 owner who's come in with complaints after Lollipop. :-[
The battery usage looks good.
Is you main memory close to full? I suspect some of these post update problems may be caused by full main memory. System settings->Storage see the "Total space". I like leaving 50% free for good performance. This is probably way more than necessary but the file system needs some spare room to operate efficiently. Also check SD. Leave some space free there as well.
Do you have apps installed on your SD? I think 5.0.1 might not play nice with apps stored outside of main memory.
Also try this. System settings ->Apps-> at top..DOWNLOADED-ON SD CARD-RUNNING
See the "RUNNING" column. Any apps using too much memory? This could indicate that an app is causing problems, and should be disabled.
Also note the phone memory -
-System
-Apps
-Free
When free memory is low, reboot. Rebooting often may help things. Note the numbers above. After rebooting compare, there should be more free memory.
The memory leak may be sucking up the ram and causing the overheat issue.
If you install OS Monitor, Go to the app's settings and check off "Show CPU usage" - you'll find a little graphic monitor in the app tray that will show you real time how CPU usage. In the app under "Process" you can see real time how much CPU apps are consuming. Very useful stuff and might be of help. When done using OS Monitor, in the upper right there's the three dots. There's the option to EXIT which is a good idea to use.
You may be able to identify an app that is churning CPU usage, so it can be disabled. Also - since you have mediocre reception during the day that could explain it. 5.0.1 may be using excessive battery hunting for signals.
Keep in mind our version of Lollipop WILL be fixed (the memory leak among other things). The only question is WHEN.
