LG G3 Overheating warning?

Mine has been heating up like crazy for the last couple of months and I would take it in but I don't have money for a new one. But it doesn't take much for my phone to over heat at all. I can be sending a text and my phone will burn up.

Hello my phone gets extremely hot when I use it and I have tried changing settings and also I have changed out the battery and still it is very hot.

I've had my g3 for a year now, for the first time my phone actually got the heat warning. I got it while using snapchat kinda weird. I'm guessing it got to 115-120 farenheit.

I would love to hear from current G3 owners about any overheating problems they have experienced so far. I saw a few people mentioning having to turn down screen brightness and getting warnings about the phone getting too hot to function properly (or slowing down).

Any experiences you've had (with overheating or lack of) would be helpful. Thanks!

My lg g3 has overheated a few times but typically a warning would pop up. Roughly an hour ago my 2 year old who. sleeps with me woke up and as usual I picked him up then grabbed my cell to go rock him. I typically his use it for light. However this morning my phone was so hot that once I felt it I tossed it away from me. It was very uncomfortable to touch, the screenb was still on so the phone had not shut itself down this time.pls pls ergo not charge these at night. This could have been a fire starter

For the people with heating phones, do you keep the brightness at max or near max? Has the phone heated when having brightness af dor below 50%?

I read that the biggest problem was the battery not getting enough air. I remove the back while charging, & it cools down.

My LG G3 overheats constantly. I also only get approximately 4-5 hours of battery life TOPS, with only slight texting or checking Facebook. I've had it a little over a year and I'm ready to trade it in. I've already done one factory reset on it (which stopped the overheating and improved the battery life for a little while) and I refuse to go through it again. I used to keep the screen on auto, but now it dims and brightens randomly, dimming to almost not being able to see it while I'm looking at it, so I end up taking it off auto and increasing the screen brightness so I can see it for a short time, then putting it back on auto to save what pitiful excuse for a battery life I have left. Otherwise, love the fricken phone. :)

I have LG G3 and using it for last 2 months.
It gets heated up so quickly. And it gets up Extreme heated when camera is in used or a video recording is on. I have never made a video more than 40 seconds. Even some times only for 10-15 sec. And it gets hanged or camera shut down.
It gets heated up extra ordinary while a game is being played. Maximum temperature is noted 53 degrees. It was felt as if it might get burst.
I need help on this issue. Although I don't want to loose it. As rest of everything it has are too good. even better than several smart phones.
If anybody knows anything regarding this issue except reselling it, plz inform.

Regards

There is a thermal pad mod that is very easy to do on the G3 (Google it) which considerably helps with heat issues.

I will tell you that most G3's do not heat up as much as you're describing. This mod should help people like you.

There is a small chance that your battery is malfunctioning... To check you can see if the majority of the heat is on the power button (it should be) or if the heat is more towards the middle of the phone where the battery is. If the battery is ever hotter than the power button (only in cases of charging for long periods) then it is a defective battery.

I'll see if replacing the battery does the trick, btw does anybody here also have problem with the usb connection? I mean my G3 has been unable to connect to my PC through data cable lately, the PC would say something like "USB error due to a problem with the device" or something like that but no matter what I do it still won't work like it used to.

That is not a good sign. It is possible that there are more issues going on here than we think.

You might want to try backing up what you have and completely restoring your phone to stock. To do this, a factory reset will not suffice (although try that before going to this next step) as it will just restore current issues.

This tutorial (it has two methods, TOT and KDZ) will show you how to flash your phone completely back to new, and has the unique ability to fix software issues that may be present on your phone.

Now, since you're bringing up the issue with connectivity to your computer, this method may not work for you. But it is worth a shot (and check to see if your cable is okay!) because I've used this to fix issues that are beyond factory reset.

Typically the overheating isn't the cause of ths slow down, but rather a symptom of the phone's CPU working hard on something. The G3 does get hot at times, but I have never had it "overheat." My phone has never shut down or given a warning that it is too hot. It does limit brightness, as others have said here, when the phone is hot, but that is just an informational message, not a warning of a problem. Another reason these phones get hot, is when they are in an area with a poor signal. The radios in these phones are designed to run on as little power as possible. But, when the signal is weak, the power is boosted to try and retain a lock on the nearest tower. This extra power usage also makes the phone get hot. As phones get thinner and thinner, and as they are packed with faster and more powerful processors, heat management is going to continue to be a challenge for phone manufacturers.

Re: LG G3 Overheating fix

YOU can stop your g3 to overheat i searched a lot i had the same problem after a lot of time and effort i found the fix
basically lg g3 mainly heats up because of its hd screen so just u need to decrease its dpi use an app named RESOLUTION CHANGER
available on playstore i used nomone resolution changer and reduced my dpi to 294 and now i am running fifa 16 at temp only 36 -38 celcius the less the dpi and resolution the more speed ,no heat up and more battery life tell me if this helped

I have been able to directly associate the overheating problem with two things. One is logical, that's heavy use of video such as watching a long program or a playing a graphically intense game. The other is highly unfortunate, but came up with the new Marshmallow Android update which changed some of my default settings. Almost immediately upon any app using the Location service, the phone overheated and announced it's discontent. View your Settings|Location|Mode, and choose Device Only instead of High Accuracy. You should notice a dramatic difference in the frequency with which the phone overheats as well as the speed of battery drain. While location services still do raise the temperature of the phone, it's not nearly as bad as before. Now apps using Location may raise temp to 100F, but not 120F as before.

This LG G3 constantly overheats and the battery drains within an hour of removing it from the charger. And lately, the screen
has been blinking and going black. I have to take the battery out and leave the back off just to cool the phone down. Uggh...
