Typically the overheating isn't the cause of ths slow down, but rather a symptom of the phone's CPU working hard on something. The G3 does get hot at times, but I have never had it "overheat." My phone has never shut down or given a warning that it is too hot. It does limit brightness, as others have said here, when the phone is hot, but that is just an informational message, not a warning of a problem. Another reason these phones get hot, is when they are in an area with a poor signal. The radios in these phones are designed to run on as little power as possible. But, when the signal is weak, the power is boosted to try and retain a lock on the nearest tower. This extra power usage also makes the phone get hot. As phones get thinner and thinner, and as they are packed with faster and more powerful processors, heat management is going to continue to be a challenge for phone manufacturers.
