LG G3 Overheating warning?

I think mine is a pretty rare case. Sometimes it overheats, lags and battery drains simultaneously for hours. Happens almost twice a month.

I would love to hear from current G3 owners about any overheating problems they have experienced so far. I saw a few people mentioning having to turn down screen brightness and getting warnings about the phone getting too hot to function properly (or slowing down).

Any experiences you've had (with overheating or lack of) would be helpful. Thanks!

Why would any of you put up with that?

Blinded by love? LOL

Lately, my G3 is at 35+ celsius and all I'm doing is using Chrome & Textra? Than again sometimes I'm constantly switching between 5 apps and nothing. Who knows.

That must be it (or at least it's the nice answer).
Can you imagine buying a new car that stops running every so many miles and needs to "cool down" before you can get going again?
Or a new TV that shuts off because you watched it for more than a couple of hours.....
Like I've said before, if I buy something that does not operate per design it's going back.

I remember a while back I bought an original Zagg screen protector; I read the claims of "scratch proof" and "invisible" (I notice now they no longer claim invisible but 93% clarity).....well, after a perfect install I was immediately disappointed. It had a hazy look, rubbery feel and after a few days I had several minor scratches that were not "self healing" themselves. Best Buy wanted to replace it but I asked them why I would want to replace one crappy product for another. They said that I could not return a used product??? I asked how I would have known it was defective if I had not used it. They claimed that it was not defective....even though it did not live up to their claims right on the package???
Nevertheless, I demanded my money back and they reluctantly complied. I mentioned it here on one of the forums and I recall a mod losing her mind and accusing me of ripping off the company....I digress.
If your G3 is overheating and not operating per design, make issue of it and return it for something that works like it's supposed to.

I went on vacation to Thailand this past 3 weeks and while filming video with the flash on, the phone would overheat and shutdown, ruining many precious moments. I would have to take everything apart, let it cool down and try to start over again. Many times I had to shut the flash at night. This is unacceptable, never any of my other phones did that, and of course nor do cameras. I have only had the phone for 4 months so it still under warranty from LG I believe.

This is one thing im still concerned about is the heat issue and it shutting down. I want to get the G3 but this holds me back.

Edit: And was the overheating in 4K video mode? I wonder if it overheats with no flash on an using 1080 mode. Anyone know, tried or tested?

Re: Does the LG G3 Overheat?

Hey,

I got a brand new LG G3 two days ago, from the first minute of turning it on, it became warm... I downloaded CPU temp and it showed that as soon as I turn on the camera it goes to about 50-60 C and when watching youtube- 70C minimum. The phone was constantly warm and unpleasant to hold. I went to the store and replaced it with a new one. So, as soon as I went home and started downloading the newest Android, the CPU peaked at 83 C!!!??? Whatever I do it becomes warm and even hot, and it is the second device... when playing Aspalt 8 it reaces 80 C... and battery around 40.. I replaced 1 already, don't want to replace this one.. should I do it ? WHat temperatures is it normal to reach ? during gaming, watching videos, or just facebook. Please help me

Re: Does the LG G3 Overheat?

I just purchased a second one the other day and it got a little warm during set up and update download. It never got "hot" though.
My first was the same, never a "hot" moment.
I am on Verizon, not sure that has anything to do with it.
I would take to the store and show them that it gets hot and see what they say about it.
There are many examples of the G3 heating up, just not sure why some do and some don't.

No overheating but never run at full brightness it will get warm if I am playing a graphic intensive have and charging at same time, but that is to be expected

I've had mine almost two weeks and I can't do anything for very long without it overheating. Its really disappointing because I love this phone.
It is defective. You should try to get it exchanged.

I've had my G3 for over 7 months and have never gotten a message about overheating. And I play some serious games (Shadowrun anyone?) for long periods of time without issues. The phone heats up, like all smart phones do, but never to the point of giving a warning.

I can second this, that has been my case as well. You should get it replaced.

Re: Does the LG G3 Overheat?

I had major overheating problems with my first G3 and had it replaced.
The replacement seems to be cooler but still has some lag and random freezing even though I have done almost everything I did on the original.
Though it has been operating better than the first it still bugs me that it is not perfect and should be better than my old LG NITRO.
Might send it back before my warranty is up not sure, I hate having to start over and reinstall everything because I have a lot of apps.

My original would always overheat and never showed a warning, constantly shutting down.

Ditto, 2 G3's since release and never warm, overheating or any warnings. This is not standard operating function....return it.

To make life easier, you can get TWRP and make a full image backup of your phone and put it on your SD card. Then, after getting new phone, root and install TWRP and restore it.

I will look into that man thanks for the advice.

Charged my phone overnight like I always do and this morning it will not turn on, gives a message that phone turned off due to overheating. The phone is cool to the touch so not clear what the problem is. I did increase the brightness a week ago but not sure why that would be a problem. Will take it in today and see if any answers.

My LG G3 overheated on the charger and I guess it became hot enough to create a hairline crack on my screen and my screen isn't working anymore. I called LG and they set up a RA so i can send it in. Has anyone else experienced this issue? will LG replace it or attempt to charge me?
