LG G4 Battery Life Thread

@Mooncatt, to each his own. i did the same with my old Samsung Galaxy S3 for 3 years. After 3 years the battery still lasted 24h+.(the same as when I bought it), while friends of mine who charged them whenever they could barely got 12 hours. Maybe I got lucky, who knows. It worked for me.

My screen consistently consumes most of my baterry. It's always above 50% and it's actually at 65% right now. How do I fix this? I by the way consistently have my screen brightness at around 20% and once in a while have it at around 50% when out in brighter conditions, but that's usually for like a minute-10 in any given day..

I got my phone on Feb 29 and it updated to MM right out of the box (US-991). For the first few days it would not make it through the day on a single charge, I had to plug it in while driving, etc. to give it a boost. Pretty disappointing.

After a week or so, however, my battery life is now great. It seems like I can use it all I want and I still have over 50% left at the end of the day. I charge it every night using a wireless charger (I installed the wireless sticker add-on from Amazon).

I think the initial bad battery life when you get a new phone or OS update is normal and can be attributed to two factors: The OS needs some time to setup it's environment and housekeeping on the phone (which it does in the background) and more importantly we tend to fiddle, play, and configure the phone lots more than normal which naturally uses more battery.

Regarding Leezie's comment about the screen using most of the battery, to me that is normal. It means you don't have any apps that are sucking your battery down. Aside from making the screen dim and turning it off when not in use there is not much you can do to make it use less battery. It takes energy to make light...

I just checked what is using up my battery, and Android system is second to screen. what i found odd was that within android system, my GPS seems to have been on for about 3h 10min, but i regularly switch my location on, and havent even used that for more than 10 min since last charge. Any advices? also, my screen has only been on for 2h 30 min.

I have been finding the same thing lately .......Android System is sucking the life of my battery far more than anything else. I am a mild user and leave location and cell data off most of the time as I am on Wifi constantly at home and work.

But the darn Android System shows a good amount of GPS used in the battery stats compared to my other android devices running marshmallow. Not sure if this is a Marshmallow issue with this phone.....or does it affect other phones as well?

After the M update, I noticed my GPS will sometimes stick on. Turning location off doesn't remove the location found icon and I see almost constant GPS usage in my battery stats. Sometimes opening Maps, getting a lock, then closing the app will shut it off, sometimes I need a reboot. If I keep it on network only location, this doesn't happen. It's only when the device is set to high accuracy or GPS only in the location settings.

Update - my battery performance under 6.0 has not returned to the same as under Lollipop! I did the factory reset last month and then deleted a bunch of apps (which I don't miss) and things got better. The app updates over the last few weeks must have done something, because at the end of the day I'm frequently at 50% now!

The only problem remaining...505 so my phone may die at any moment, bootloop...:'( AND my USB port got loose as of a few days ago.

I had the problem on Marshmallow that my battery would drain around 5% an hour when the phone was not being used. I rolled back to Lollipop using the LGUP tool and I haven't had any battery problems since.

RESIST the urge to upgrade. I am always one that wants to upgrade just because....I so wish I didn't havew that urge this time around. My battery life SUCKS (after doing 3 or 4 hard resets) and the lag is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo horrible it makes me want to throw the phone....and that is saying a lot about me. The bluetooth music cuts / skips.

I am waiting for the Note 6 official specs to come out to decide on the Note 6 or the V10 (which my wife has and loves).

Had been blocking the update to Marshmallow for months but it somehow forced it's way in OTA without my permission two night ago. That did not take well, so I did a FDR. Was expecting more changes; the look and feel are very similar to Lollipop though. Shockingly, my early returns on battery life (my main fear keeping me from updating) have been absolutely terrific. Got almost six hours SOT through first charge cycle and didn't lose more than 2% battery life in standby while sleeping. Color me pleasantly surprised so far.
