List of Epic Pros and Cons

I'm annoyed by the battery icon in the notification tray doesn't come close to an accurate representation of remaining charge. Samsung needs an "iphone 4g type" software fix for this. lol

When I'm looking at the screen, mostly in a white background, the image starts flickering or changing... the normal white color goes too a white with a blue hue. Idk if I said that right and back to the reg white... idk weird... its flickering between both colors at ramdom times.

- The manual screen brightness setting will not stay all the way down (opening and closing the notification bar a few times will cause it to reset to a higher brightness)

There is a feature in touchwiz that swiping your finger on the notification bar from left to right will increase the brightness of the screen (right to left will decrease it). You might be doing that motion accidentally and thus increasing the brightness.

My only issue with the phone is that the screen is a bit "jiggly" with the keypad out, but I'm not sure whether I would return it for an exchange...I got it via sprint.com, and a store rep told me that I would have to do the exchange online as well.

**Grounding Issue?**
I've noticed the capacative "back" button auto-activates sometimes when I'm using the physical keyboard. It seems to happen when I have a finger touching the metal back of the screen-half of the unit.

When this happens, whatever I'm working on backs out repeatedly to the home screen. This is quite annoying when I've been working on a long reply to something.

In addition, my screen tends to have innacurate touch-sensing when it's plugged in. Same problem, different symptom? I dunno. Any ideas?

*edit- I think I was sitting in some kind of vortex...as soon as I moved from where I was sitting the touchscreen started functioning correctly.

All of a sudden my touch screen has gone insane. When I am in Swype, the trace line bounces all over the place. When I am in the browser trying to scroll with one fing causes the page to zoom in and out and scroll up and down sporadically. Is there a touchscreen realignment in the settings somewhere?

Wow, thanks. That was it entirely. Odd feature though.

I'm having a problem w/ skipping/stuttering on music playback. It doesn't matter what app I'm using, or whether I'm using computer speakers, headphones or my car speakers. Has anyone else noticed this?

I have noticed a couple if issues:

SMS/MMS:
*if a SMS/MMS msg fails to send, you will get a notification of msg not sent. If you re-send the msg (by clicking the envelop with the exclamation mark), the receiver will get that msg the same number of times it took to send it. I don't know if it's a flaw in the software, or is there an auto re-send feature built into SMS software.

*If you go to "Missed Call" notification and decide to send a message instead of calling back, and you already have a message thread to this contact... you will get 2 separate threads. The threads do not merge.

Quick Buttons at Bottom of the Phone

*The "Back" button is a little annoying. If you open an app from the notification area, and want to go back to the home screen of that app..... the "Back" button will send you back to your last app you were using.. not back within the app you have open.

Those are the few things I noticed.

When phone is plugged in LED is lit in red - when a new message comes in, nothing changes. No Notification.
When phone is not plugged in - new message comes in, sometimes it blinks, sometimes it doesn't. seems buggy.
Thats my only complain other than the fact that the battery dies quickly, bought a second battery.

Sometimes when I am deleting tasks (via the built in task manager,) if i'm deleting, let's say "Messaging" but "Browser" is a few spots down, it'll close that instead. Sounds like Xippy's problem of inaccurate touch-sensing, but it only happens in the task manager.

i've had my samsung epic for a week now and i basically like the phone but have 2 rather major issues...1st i cannot use any of the voice comand features from my bluetooth and there doesn't seem to be any good apps that acutally work out there to fix this and 2nd when my bluetooth headset is connected and i'm listening to the music player through the headphone jack connected into my car stero through the aux input...all works well till i get a call.. then the call audio goes through my car speakes my bluetooth must turn off because i cannot use it to talk and the phone speaker phone doesn't work. in fact i cannot get the phone mic to work at all if the headphone aux jack is plugged in.... i have to unplug the headphone jack before i answer every phone call...really annoying! any ideas?

I have the same issue, it's a known entity with this phone (all Galaxy S phones I believe). It's the only line of the newer Android phones that does not allow this feature (afaik). There is less then 2 weeks left on my 30 day return period. If there is no fix by that time, the Epic goes back until an android phone I like is released that has this feature.

I've had all my email accounts removed from the stock email app twice now. Once was right after a freeze, so I thought that was the cause. However the next time it happened the phone had just been sitting on the charger all night.

I have 2 exchange accounts and two 2 google domain accounts that I'm using google synch with (active sync).

There has to be a fix for this. I have the same issue with mine. Its really annoying to have to unplug the mp3 cable while you are driving to answer a call and its a little dangerous.

I come here everyday hoping to see a fix posted. It's one of those issues that some may dismiss as nominal, but to people who use this feature frequently it's a big step back not to have it.

Agreed. My Pre handled this scenario perfectly.

this same issue applies to shazam. It seems like if you have a bluetooth headset connected to the epic, then shazam cannot use the mic on the actual handset to hear songs. I really hope they fix this issue soon! My old hero handled it like a charm :/
