Looks like we are starting to see why the Nexus 7 is so cheap

I don't view the title of this threads as saying everyone has or will have problems because its an inexpensive device, more that there seem to be more issues than a higher priced device would have. In this I agree 100%. I'm happy for all of you that have "flawless" ones, although I suggest that some of that is contingent on the level of attention the user has. I have now been through three Nexus 7s and they all are flawed. My first one had an ever so slight screen separation, something I was attempting to live with until last night when the screen started flickering. I went to a different Sam's Club and bought another that appeared to be a solid unit until 5 min in and I felt the screen actually kinda pop up. Significant screen separation. Exchanged immediately for one that also seemed fine. That was until I noticed hours later that the screen will not rotated. I've tried everything from turning the rotation off and on, and off and on again, to restarts and even a full hard reset.

I know some will take offense to my questioning of the build quality, and this comment, but I'm starting to think the Nexus 7 is approaching garbage. Thus is a shame because I really like it and I'll keep trying until I get an acceptable unit.

That's what my intention in posting this thread was- to see how much of an issue this really was. From the sound of it, its becoming a pretty significant one. I hope I don't have the same issues. Sorry to hear you're having a bad experience with yours. Good luck

This thread deserves to be a sticky with all the complaints. At least this will bump it to the first page for a little while.

Hearing these problems so far about the Nexus 7 (screen not adhering, dead pixels, flickering/static) makes me nervous on what I'm going to receive. Turns out we're starting to see why its so cheap. Anyone else feeling nervous or even buyers remorse about their Nexus 7's?

LOL you made a thread to talk about problems with a tablet you don't have... for the record I have one and have found no problems yet...

Glass separation, some light flickering, and the software buttons play hide-and-seek once in a while. However, I find these to be minor nuisances, and don't really detract from an otherwise awesome experience!

Of course, it's only been a day since I've had it, so I really want to see how it holds up after a couple of weeks.

I have had mine for several days now. I think the the first day they were out I got lucky and got one. With that being said I have a great unit and I'm satisfied. I think with ANY electronic you are going to get bad units because most of these are made by robots. But I can guarantee you this with 100% certainty that if this product had an apple on it it would cost in the 400-500 range without a doubt. Google is making very minimal profit just to get this product in an many hands as possible! I read on cnet that the production cost of these units are 156 dollars. So I don't think there is a product that can do with this can for the price or even close to the price so I have no complaints or regrets. It's a great device even if it would cost double the money!

There are quite a few reports of defects in another well known forum..including cracked glass, no microphone, various screen issues..the list goes on. The most reported issue is screen seperation/malformation on the left side, and various amounts of dead pixels. Some might say it's normal for a product to have manufacturing issues and I can understand that, we'll see how it's handled.

btw, google play customers are reporting calling google and getting new ones shipped out and returning defective so no time without your device. Gamestop has so far been doing pretty much the same, having them expedited from "corporate" while you hold onto yours. ymmv...

This product would NOT have the quality issues that it clearly has if there was a piece of fruit on it. Hell, even if it had Samsung written on it.

Glass separation and screen flickering? These are amateurish issues and are the result of being a budget priced device. I really like the Nexus 7. I'd love it if the level of quality were higher. Anyone not open to seeing these clear facts is nothing but a fortunate apologist.

Actually ASUS has done the same thing with their $500 tablets too. Seems like ASUS always has lots of issues with their first batch of tablets. Both the TF101 and TF201 were quite the fiasco.

dont forget the people happy with their product are playing with it and not here. the ppl with broken , are on here pissing and moaning. Understandably of course.

The tablet is great, i havn't come across any issues yet. my NOOK color was shoddy as hell and I've been waiting for this tablet since January.

MY only complaint so far, is that the battery takes hours to charge.

Remember, this is a LARGE battery compared to a phone. Also, be sure to use the supplied charging cable. It charges twice as fast as generic cable in my tests.
