That's a great idea. I need to figure that out. Same situation, wife won't change from Apple.
My wife threatened to leave me if I didn't get an iPhone.
I'm gonna miss her

All of them. The Google photos app works pretty much the same on iOS. I have it set so when she's on WiFi it just backs up her pics and video. Then I can see them to. Mine does the same thing. You just have to have Google photos logged into the same account on both devices. So we each have our personal accounts with all out contacts and email separate. Then I have another account I setup just for pictures and video to be backed up to in Google photos.FYI for a FaceTime replacement Duo works great on the iPhone.
If I'm understanding correctly you both are logged in with two accounts. Both logged in with your personal and both logged into the back up account? Do you choose what gets backed up to the back up account? I was thinking about a shared album where we can send pictures too. That way we can choose what gets backed up. We had a shared iCloud library.
I used Duo when it first came out years ago. Heard it's better now. I'll download it again
Yep, there are three accounts total. The third one is only used for the shared Google photos account so we can see each other's pics of kids and stuff. The other reason I did that was because before that all hers we're going into iPhoto or whatever apple calls it and I had no access and she kept running out out of space and we kept having to pay for more. With the free Google photos backup it isn't an issue. If I'm at an event and take pics she can see them full resolution and vice versa. If I'm understanding correctly you both are logged in with two accounts. So on my Pixel, I have it setup to sync everything in the camera folder but that is also on by default. You can tell Google photos what folders you want synched except for your camera folder. It does that one automatically and you can't turn it off unless you disable backup for the account. However, you can set photos to only sync on WiFi so if you want to not sync a photo or video you can just move it to another folder that isn't synched and it won't get backed up if you aren't on WiFi (I don't usually turn on WiFi till I go to bed to let everything backup and download updates). I will do that occasionally with like if there's something I saw at the store or a part I need at the hardware that I snapped a picture of so I knew what to look for. I don't need that forever. So I move the pic to downloads folder or something. But you can also go in later and just delete them out of photos too.So do you pick and choose what gets synced to the shared account or is it everything?

On the iPhone side I think it does everything or my wife set it up to sync everything because screenshots she takes of recipes or weird/funny Facebook posts or pics all go in there. I don't worry about it because I have fun scrolling through and seeing the stuff lol. But what's great is like yesterday she took pics and video at my kid's Halloween party at school and last night I was able to look at all of them on my phone.
I am gonna be sad giving up iMessage but everyone I know uses Whatsapp because the reality is many people who they interact with don’t have iPhones. So I’m glad my side to send photos using whatsapp is avaliable, for those who say people aren’t willing to use it seems a little extreme.
Also looks like WhatsApp is about to start displaying Ads in the app -.-

That's crazy, I use that app a lot
I don't use it but if I did... that would bother me.

I don't use it either...maybe you have to pay to bypass ads
IIRC WhatsApp is free.. so they could do a pay to get rid of it. That would solidify it even more that my fam/friends wouldn't use it because why swap to something, everyone has to have it, and then pay to get rid of stuff they never had before.
