MMS images are very grainy using Google messenger

The POTUS has an official Twitter account. Every government agency has a Twitter account. Corporations have official Twitter, FB and Instagram accounts. Major news outlets use all 3 as well. Your statement makes zero sense. If you prefer not to use these platforms for personal reasons just say that. No need to make up a lame excuse.

Because it is made by the same company that made the processor that does the compression.

Interesting. I guess I'll just use the stock messaging app until a fix arises.

Actually, I just tested the stock messaging app and the pictures are still grainy, only a little bit better than using Google messenger. This is frustrating.

Yup, it isn't a T-Mobile issue either as I'm getting the same issue on ATT.

Photos are fine went sent through Whatapp, FB Messenger, etc, it's only through MMS that pics are sent low-res.

Perhaps with the Nougat and EMUI update this will be fixed.

I spoke with T-Mobile and it appears that the advanced messaging service is the issue. The honor is not compatible with this system as it is not a T-Mobile branded device. With advanced messaging you can send 15 mb and with standard MMS you are limited to just 1 mb. I'm guessing AT&T has a similar limit to their system and that is why you are experiencing the same issue. This is really a bummer. I love everything else about this device, but I may have to switch to something else if I cannot resolve somehow.

It would still hold true with AT&T, because it also has advanced messaging through specific phones only.

If I remember correctly the messaging app compresses the MMS files based on the service providers protocols. You may be able to get around it by downloading a third party messenger like Textra and changing the settings to no limit for files. However the MMS may not send and if it does the service provider will compress it anyway.

Beat me to it lol. Should have refreshed.

Yes, at least on T-Mobile and att. And I think just about every Honor 8 user in the US is on one of these 2 networks.

Good to know. I was thinking of buying a Honor 8 this Friday if the price was right. I'm using an Axon 7 now and liking it very much. The native ZTE SMS and email apps suck but those are easily replaced. I guess I'll hold off on the Honor 8. Texting pictures is a necessity.

Agreed, but sit tight. I'm testing Textra now as some have suggested and some fiddling with the settings in Textra may have solved the problem. I'll update soon. Also, I would think you'd have the same issue w the Axon 7 since it is an unlocked device and probably doesn't support advanced messaging.

I'm on ATT and haven't noticed any issues. I've used Google Messenger and Textra on the Axon 7. I'll check my wife's iPhone to see the pics on the other end.

Update: Using Textra with the correct settings works well. Still not perfect, but pretty good. Changed the Textra MMS settings to "carrier has no data limit" and chose "system" option over "legacy" option. Will test it further for the next few days and offer another opinion.

That's good news. I do like Textra.

OK, better way to phrase this... Why did my S7 edge send excellent quality photos over MMS (Google messenger) and my Honor 8 does not? Both take very similar, excellent photos and both are on the same plan w T Mobile
There are three limitations to file size for MMS. The carrier has a limit, the device has a limit and each app capable of sending the photo has a limit. The app limit can vary depending on which device it is on as well. Whichever is the smallest of those three values is the max size of file that will be sent.

Update #2: Totally disregard my previous note on Textra MMS settings. Apparently only T-Mobile customers would receive the MMS with those settings. Changed MMS settings to "carrier send limit 1MB" and "MMS behavior legacy" then enabled their T-Mobile WiFi fix. I just sent some photos to my step-dad on ATT and he said that they look crystal clear and no graininess. I guess Textra just does better job compressing the photos than Google messenger does. I'm liking Textra and will continue to use it until a fix arises for Google messenger.

What mms settings are you referring to? I don't find any.

In the Textra app, not in the phone settings. In the main landing for Textra click the triple dot in the top right and then select MMS

This is bad news. I'm on ATT and considering getting the Honor 8 today. I don't want to use Textra because of this alone. I'm happy with Google Messenger and need to text pics for work and plain convenience. Has this issue changed at all? Anyone on ATT with the EMUI 5/Nougat beta experiencing these issues?
