First thread, Android noob....

Haven't seen a thread discussing the monthly cost of this phone. I'm a premier customer on the Simply Everything Plan, my current bill is $118.74. I also have a $60.07 verizon Wireless card (for my stock trading and such.) Puts my total at nearly $180/mo. I want to get rid of the Verizon Card....tested at 400kbps yesterday....

Got my EVO preordered through BB yesterday, #2 on the list.

Am I correct in saying that the EVO will cost me 99.99 (simply everything) + 10 (premium data) + 29.99 (WiFi tether) + taxes and surcharges = $158.73/mo.

I'm a noob, so the whole rooting, ROM and everything are foreign to me; but later on I think that I can cancel the tether if 2.2 comes to EVO. thoughts?

You don't have to have the 99.99 plan.. you can get the 69.99 plan which will save you money right there :) The only time your minutes are actually used is 1. landline calling or 2. roaming I don't know many people that do either :)

with the 69.99 plan you would have: 69.99 + 10 + 29.99 = 109.98 plus taxes and minus whatever discounts you may get.

Do a search for discounts as there are many and I managed to find one that actually took care of my evo "fee" :)

And you should be able to tether for free (using PDANet in the Android Market). It's using your phone as a wireless hotspot that will cost you. So, it could be as low as $79.99 + tax per month.

If you don't talk a ton, the EverythingData plans are Sprint's best value. An experienced Sprint CSR told me that the SE plans are usually for people who talk a lot or use their cell phone as their only phone.

EverythingData plans are eligible for discount programs where SE plans are not.

You should be able to knock quite a bit off what you're paying now though.

Also, data on 3G and 4G is uncapped with Evo so you'll be happy.

i dont think he has the 69.99 plan because he is on Verizon and not Sprint.

I have discount on my SE family plan *Shrug* it is my credit union discount :)

2 HTC EVOs....................... $398
Everything Famly Plan ........ $129
Premium Data add on..........$20

Not listening to my wife complain about her crappy phone every night........

PRICELESS!!!

They're not taking discounts away, but they said they're not adding it to any new accounts or renewals not on SE going forward.

If that's not the case, would you mind sharing info on how you got that or what discount? I know all discounts are not the same, and Sprint did tell me that some of the military and gov't discounts are better and have more features than regular company discounts.

At any rate, you're lucky. If they would have applied my company discount, I would have gotten the SE Family and cancelled one of my hardlines.

no problem :) I actually just had it done 2 days ago .. it is a military credit union so maybe that is why? I have had the SE plan since it came out so has been a long time.

The normal CSR told me she couldn't do discounts but sent me over to the "corporate" department... maybe try that route? I wish I had more for you :(

Thanks for all your replies, I can hopefully save some money somewhere. My job picks up $75 of my bill as I use for work as well as my only phone, so my minutes are sometimes in the 3000 range. I think that Everything data plans are 450 minutes for $69.99 and 900 minutes for $89.99. Thanks again.

One thing to think of also is that if you use the hotspot on 3g you will not be able to receive any phone calls but if you are on 4g will still be able to. Depending on what you do you still may want to get a air card. Or another option that is good to get that I do now is to set up a google voice account. So that when people right to your voicemail you will get and email that you have a new voice mail and will be able to call them right back.

then that makes sense :) if you use that many minutes - the unlimited would be the best for you. I think you will be fine using just the EVO and letting the VZ go :) that in the end would save you money lol

Lucky your work pays $75 lol

if your mins are most between cell phones, 450mins is totally enough. for landline user, Another solution here is Google Voice. According to Sprint, they offer Home phone service, which means you can set up one land line, $5/month, for unlimited calling. If you dont travel on business alot, you can setup your local GV landline, then call out. (However, i m not sure if you will be charged or not for changing your landline phone number in home phone service).

I'm not sure about that. I use the Everything Data family plan, and my wife and I use our phones as our only phones. In fact, I use my phone for conference calls when I work from home with a BT headset, instead of my work-provided Cisco IP/VoIP phone--simply because it dials faster.

I really don't see the need for the SE plans due to Sprint's generous plan Premier customer/EverythingData/unlimited mobile number calling plan. This is really the best value in wireless I think.

To the OP, as other people mentioned, even paying for wifi tethering from Sprint, it would be cheaper than your current combination if you used the Everything Data+wifi hotspot tethering. And you would reduce the number devices to lug around or plug in.

Unlimited 450 - $69.99
EVO Fee - $10
Taxes - $11 (sprint and local)
Insurance - $7

Total - $97.99
Discounts (Airave defective 3 diff. units) -$10/yr
Total - $87.99

I don't live in a 4G or even 3G area. Will I still have to pay the extra $10 a month?
