MR2 OTA Update (1.66.605.2) (Leak)

Im going to have to take my prior comment back. It seems a restart after OTA did the trick, I can finally use my browser again. I still dont know what to blame, hardware or 4G Network.

Feels so good to have my pre-MR1 phone back, I was getting at least 5 reboots a day. Loaded the MR2 RUU friday afternoon, loaded all my apps back then did a hard reset and haven't had a reboot since.. I haven't tried the GPS and I don't live in a 4G area so I cant speak to those being fixed/improved.

Same here. I just noticed the 3G animation has changed. The letters are bigger and in a different font.

I gave up after looking through 12 pages of this thread...but does anyone know if after updating to this fix, will I still be able to receive OTA updates via VZW/HTC? Any answers appreciated...

Ota update still not available yet in metro Detroit area was to start being available today to download

I wouldn't count on the update fixing the reboots. I called Tier 2 support again today to inquire about this update. They reafirmed what i was told last week, they sai that this MR2 update is being built to fix the battery life issue. They also said that HTC wants verizon to collect serial number of power cycling devices to determine if there is a bad batch or batch's. HTC will only work on an update to address the power cycle issue once they have collected enough info which could take months to accomplish. Basically put, the power cycle issue will be patched later this year. Until then if you managed to make your phone stop rebooting then consider yourself lucky. Two minutes after i was told this, i sealed the envelope on the trade-in package that contained my thunderbolt and handed to the mail clerk. The concelation prize for my troubled is the nice $240 gift card that will be mailed to me. If anyone hasn't considered sending you bolt back to verizon under the trade-in program you really should while verizon is being generous.

The charge is now Verizon's 4G flagship device? I think the sales figures would beg to differ ;)

No thanks, i'll stick with the better phone. Your posts suggest you are just out to smear the Bolt for some reason or another. Maybe it's just me, but i doubt it....

well 4months on the market for the thunderbolt vs 2 weeks for the charge so you do the math. Plus i wouldnt say one is better than the other because both are strong where the other is week. what it all boils down to is with the samsung, it doesn't power cycle and the screen is worlds better. I mean come one AMOLED versus WXGA LCD. to be fair though the tbolt does have more ram. The samsung has better battery life and the tbolt has sense. Both phone brands update regularily (at the about the same interval). Basically the reason why i had no problem switch was the better screen, more stable and better battery life.

if the Charge could do simultaneous data/voice over 3G like the Bolt I would be all over it. But that was one of the selling points of the Bolt to me so that is why I am sticking with it.

Well you shouldn't be claiming that the Charge is Verizon's flagship device then should you? Sounds like you had a bad experience with the Bolt, but many people like myself couldn't be more happier with it. And Samsung is notorious for slow updates. You'll be lucky to get Gingerbread by Christmas

That's odd since all reports (including the source that released the leak) point towards everything BUT the battery being touched upon by this update. Me thinks your "source" is wrong. Either that or you don't really have a source.

lol someone lied to you. MR2 was built specifically do deal with the reboots and a few other minor bugs/fixes. Gingerbread is the update that should improve TB battery life.

It wont be a problem, or rather it has never been a problem before that I am aware of as long as the leak is an official leak (meaning it is signed with release keys)

In the off chance it does the update file is almost always made available by someone who saved it before running the update on their phone.

No offense to Morel or any of the other support techs who may be lurking here but they are often the last to know. This update has fixed the random reboots for the vast majority of those who have applied it. I'm not sure why it would take months to accomplish. they have the release software and they have MR1 and they can compare the differences and use that to track down what could possibly be causing reboots. There may be a hardware flaw in some units which makes the problem worse (or conversely a difference which seems to make a handset either immune or not as seriously effected) but the problem is ultimately CAUSED by MR1 because it didn't start to happen en masse until then.

HTC will not wait "months" to fix the issue which is costing them a fortune in warranty replacements. The lady at my Verizon store told me the other day that they have been replacing about one a day or so since MR1.

I applied the MR2 update yesterday and had my first random reboot about 3 hours ago.

I'm getting about a day (22-26 hrs) between either reboots or shut downs. I've had three (two reboots and one shutdown). All have happened when the phone was at rest. But this is still far and away better than it was before.

I applied the update Friday morning and got a reboot last night around 10:30. It could have been a app glitch though as I was trying to listen to a song using google music who knows.

I bought my TB around the first of may. I had never had a reboot until I did the OTA on the 12th of May. As soon as I did it, I started getting reboots around 1 or 2 an hour. Verizon gave me a brand new phone. With the new phone everything was fine. Last Saturday I did the mr2 update and everything has worked perfect. Not reboots at all. I have noticed that the GPS is working much better. Before, it would take forever to lock and sometimes it would never lock. Now it works great. Battery life seems to be better as well. I have had no issues with the market as some have expressed. I am completely stock.
