Netflix for Optimus S -PROJECT ON HOLD

Just a few quick questions. I have been rooted for about a month now, with about half of that time on SP CM7. I have really been wanting to give this aosp version a try, but after being over this thread a dozen times, and flipping back and forth thru original post on this rom, I am still not getting a clear picture of what it is the current best method to flash this. I do like the ideas suggested in the OP, expecially the netflix bit LOL.

Some post seem to say you one thing which is contradicted in the next post. So I am going to try and lay out what I think I am supposed to do, and hopefully others can correct any mistakes I propose. Just to clarify, I am using zefie's CWMA recovery.

Now my first issue is the 20110531 over at xda is a .img file not a zip (every other rom I have flashed has been a .zip file). Do I need to zip up the file first? or is there a wrapped up img file somewhere I am missing. Assuming I am just a complete tool and 20110531 flashes then flash gapps and reboot. I got that part. So I would just follow the red pill steps from there?

FYI in the OP I think under red pill you have a typo in the second set where the file names dont match. Says to Download current-u**-img-signed.zip to root of sdcard then Select netflix-u**-img-signed.zip. I think this is where part of my confusion is coming from

There is a link to the newest zip version of aosp floating around somewhere. I think its on one of the most recent pages of the aosp Rom thread. You can download and flash that. Then flash gapps. Then you would start with the option you choose to take from this thread.:) So it sounds like you have the process correct. Just need to get the file.

I believe you're right about the typo. I will fix that but you clearly understand the process if you proof read my instructions.:p ;)

Thanks. And enjoy. Post any other questions you may have. Be happy to help.

Well I have had a few days to run aospCMod, and am loving it. It is a little slimmer then Scott Pilgrim, but that allows it to give a noticable speed boost. I gave my take on the rom over in its thread, but wanted to also update here. Without this thread, I wouldnt have felt comfortable to try it. The input and help found here was great. I did flash the zip I found from my previous thread, hope that is the one I wanted. I very much appreciate the devs that worked on fixes for sprint on this rom. Keep up the great work.

One quick suggestion on this thread, unless it breaks some rule I dont know about, add a direct link to the most current zip for the rom in the OP. That would have make this perfect !!

Re: flashable zips for aospCMod Optimus S users to reflect correc

I'm very impressed with this rom! Runs a lot smoother than CM7 on my old HTC Droid Eris... who knew?

Re: flashable zips for aospCMod Optimus S users to reflect correc

I've had this ROM on my phone now for about 2 months. It's a great ROM but the question never was answered. Is MMS fixed yet? And if it is, how do I get it working on my phone? I'm using this ROM!

Mms will probably never work for this Rom. Just be patient for gingerbread to roll out for our phone. Let's hope its reasonably soon. ;)

Re: flashable zips for Netflix (all ROMs, all Optimus S)!!!

updated to include flashable zips for all roms :)

what is the advantage of using this over just installing netflix does it make the newest version more workable or is the version of netflix officially downloaded optimized or something for a similar device? I am able to run 1.2.2 perfectly using the drew build and ph_collins battery tweak on stock 600mhz.

I am running a similar setup to you. If you side load the apk (downloaded it from some site them installed it to your phone) then the app is hacked to allow you to run it on your optimus s. What this zip file does is allows you to go straight to market and download the most up-to-date Netflix app. You wont miss out on any new features or compatibility issues that have been fixed or implemented. My personal preference is to have the most recently released software as usually things are fixed in updates. Just like with the cm7 roms, usually am update is released to provide greater functionality and performance, it is usually the same with apps.
Right now the option for drew's cm7 port is to use the ath3nos procedure. I will update to include drew's rom soon; although using the ath3nos zips wont hurt anything, they will display the incorrect info in 'about phone'. Hope this helps. Post if you have anymore questions.

Re: Netflix flashable zips for Ath3nos CM and aospCMod for Sprint

will it make the current version of netflix work without sync issues? I tried the hacked 1.3 and I had sync issues even when I was overclocked.

Re: Netflix flashable zips for Ath3nos CM and aospCMod for Sprint

I have never had sync issues. I have been overclocked the whole time I've had this phone. Try the instructions for the ath3nos build and it should work perfect. I have never had anyone report issues using this method... The only issue is the one I pointed out earlier to you about phone info. It wont hurt anything and is an easy fix. Once I have the time...

This is probably a dumb question but is there a monthly subscription fee or does it cost anything to use this netflix?

Re: Netflix flashable zips for Ath3nos CM and aospCMod for Sprint

yes there is a monthly subscription fee, but you can use a trial first ;)

Re: Netflix flashable zips for Ath3nos CM and aospCMod for Sprint

ok I overclocked to 748mhz using setcpu and it runs good just sometimes it seems like it loses sync and has to catch up. I will try rebooting.

Nope. I posted in the other Netflix thread the answer to your sync issue. Its the type of governer used. Ph_collin default is smartass which is causing your issue. Go into cyanogenmod settings menu and select ondemand as the governer and you should not experience anymore issues. :)

Ain't this for optimus v. Because I thought this is optimus s thread?

This is to allow your phone to download the official Netflix app from the market. Not for optimus v. This thread is in the correct section. ;)

Ok were can I download the require rom at that goes with it? Cause I can't find it.
