Netflix for Optimus S -PROJECT ON HOLD

It will work. it will show the 05312011 build in the about phone section. I will update to 06012011 soon as I have the chance.

MMS issue

I just flashed the 5/31 build along with the gapps and sprint zips. Everything appears to be working great although I still don't seem to receive MMS messages. SMS comes through great but not MMS. I have tried both stock and GoSMS. Is receiving of MMS still a known issue? I was reading through here and it almost sounded like it was resolved.

Thanks!

MMS not resolved, i.e.,cannot rec'v. Your experience with MMS/SMS is consistent with others.

Also: you don't need the Sprint zip files. Only the file linked in the original post.

Well, i'll just continue to have people send me pictures and videos to my gmail until a fix for MMS is made. This is a super great ROM. It is so quick. I used Scott Pilgrim for at least 2 months, until I stumbled upon this. This is a great ROM! I can't say that enough. Thank you for all your hard work to make a great android device even better. I wish Sprint shared our passion of continually making this phone a better device for all users. I reset my battery stats over a few days, now I'm again getting 14-18 hours a day under moderate to heavy usage. The only gripe I have with this ROM is MMS of course, and the signal bars don't seem to be too accurate...

IMO, MMS, the camera, and BT are all moderately annoying as I don't use them heavily, but when I do occasionally need them I do want them to work. :'(

lol, I hear what you're saying. I can live without BT. I'm living without MMS at the moment. But I use the camera on my phone quite often to take photos of fun times with friends or with my girlfriend. But like I said, this is a great ROM. I absolutely love it. I can't wait to see what develops in the future for it. Even more, i'm curious to see what kind of great ROMs will be made when 2.3 is officially released for our devices. But i'm not going to hold my breath. This and Zefie's version have added so much more functionality to my phone than stock configuration. I love checking these forums and seeing new ROMs, updates for ROMs, hacks etc...

I know this isn't the place to ask, but I figure somebody here could point me in the right direction while i'm thinking about it. I recently bought a Samsung Fascinate I believe it is from a friend of mine for $50. It's a Verizon phone so it's CDMA. Could anybody point me in the right direction for instructions of how to port it to Virgin Mobile or Sprint? I've seen this done with a Sprint Hero and a Samsung Moment being ported to Verizon (Hero) and Virgin Mobile (Moment). The only reason I bought this phone is because I know it can be done by cloning the ESN somehow. Any help would be appreciated...

It may be information that is hard to find. Best source is google or xda... Check the samsung forum here...

Anyone flashing needs to see these instructions.

UPDATE: Sprint zip packages no longer "break" (remove) native android messaging. So, you may choose to use 3rd party sms/mms or default/stock version. Updated with all current information to reflect the latest 20110531 build.

NOTICE: Everything below is assuming the phone is starting with a fresh flash of aospCMod version 20110531. If you don't have that, you will experience different (possibly undesired) results. /NOTICE

BLUE OR RED PILL:
  • You take the BLUE pill, you will be running the current aospCMod with correct Sprint settings and changes listed above.
  • You take the RED pill, you will be running the current aospCMod with correct Sprint settings and changes listed above with updated edits to allow usage of Netflix.

NOTE: BEFORE STARTING you should have flashed the newest aospCMod and gapps located here. The old sprint update files are no longer needed. IF you are unsure what state your phone is in after flashing the "stock" aospCMod, please refer here and make sure that you have flashed the appropriate files (aospCMod and gapps) prior to flashing any zips in this thread!!

BLUE PILL
  • Download normal-u**-img-signed.zip to root of sdcard.
  • Boot into recovery mode.
  • Select "install zip from sdcard".
  • Select "choose zip from sdcard".
  • Select normal-u**-img-signed.zip
  • Refer back to step #2 in original instructions above.
BLUE PILL END

RED PILL

DISCLAIMER: You must complete step 1 and 2 in order for your phone to work properly. If you experience issues, you didn't follow directions.
  1. To download the official Netflix app, the market will check your full phone version so you will need netflix-u**-img-signed.zip initially:
    • Download netflix-u**-img-signed.zip to root of sdcard.
    • Boot into recovery mode.
    • Select "install zip from sdcard".
    • Select "choose zip from sdcard".
    • Select netflix-u**-img-signed.zip
    • Reboot.
    • Download Netflix app.
  2. To run Netflix without (experiencing seemingly unrelated but confirmed build.prop related) issues you will need to run current-u**-img-signed.zip finally:
    • Download current-u**-img-signed.zip to root of sdcard.
    • Boot into recovery mode.
    • Select "install zip from sdcard".
    • Select "choose zip from sdcard".
    • Select netflix-u**-img-signed.zip
    • Reboot.
    • Enjoy Netflix app and phone information to reflect current version and correct network info with ROM compatibility!
    • Refer back to step #2 in original instructions above.
NOTE: While running current-u**-img-signed.zip, your 'About phone' info with not display the correct phone info for 'Model number'. It will say HTC Vision. This is normal and required to run the Netflix app once you have downloaded it and want to run it. All other phone information is correct. This is necessary because Netflix will check phone version when loading.
RED PILL END
Reference: Click here for more info on issues with leaving build.prop with incorrect info. ;)

TAXI SERVICE
  • Download boot-signed.zip to root of sdcard.
  • Boot into recovery mode (if not there already).
  • Select "install zip from sdcard".
  • Select "choose zip from sdcard".
  • Select boot-signed.zip
  • Reboot.
  • Enjoy current build and ROM with aospCMod boot image.
DON'T FORGET TO TIP THE DRIVER

Thanks to: jondevere and strra for their discoveries and aosp for this great ROM. pfer10 provided us with the information to the sprint zip files. I hope nobody is offended by this post. If you would like to thank them, please click their name and thank them. I have linked to the appropriate post for you. :D
Perfect. Thanks.

Just a few quick questions. I have been rooted for about a month now, with about half of that time on SP CM7. I have really been wanting to give this aosp version a try, but after being over this thread a dozen times, and flipping back and forth thru original post on this rom, I am still not getting a clear picture of what it is the current best method to flash this. I do like the ideas suggested in the OP, expecially the netflix bit LOL.

Some post seem to say you one thing which is contradicted in the next post. So I am going to try and lay out what I think I am supposed to do, and hopefully others can correct any mistakes I propose. Just to clarify, I am using zefie's CWMA recovery.

Now my first issue is the 20110531 over at xda is a .img file not a zip (every other rom I have flashed has been a .zip file). Do I need to zip up the file first? or is there a wrapped up img file somewhere I am missing. Assuming I am just a complete tool and 20110531 flashes then flash gapps and reboot. I got that part. So I would just follow the red pill steps from there?

FYI in the OP I think under red pill you have a typo in the second set where the file names dont match. Says to Download current-u**-img-signed.zip to root of sdcard then Select netflix-u**-img-signed.zip. I think this is where part of my confusion is coming from
