New EVO Battery Life Sticky: Please Contribute

If I can get one day of usage from my phone then that's good enough for me...why go days without charging your EVO at night?

I haven't had any significant issues as of yet. Battery consumption is base on phone use - that's why I keep my phone fully charge. :)

Okay so I've read a lot about the battery issues. I've tried some of the tips. I keep the syncing up for FB and gmail, turned down screen brightness by half, got rid of the battery widget (it was distracting). My battery had been doing well this week. As I type with my EVO, I am working on 25-30% battery for 16 hours since disconnected from the charger. Mind you I get crap service at my work st times..today is just exceptional I guess. Well good luck now you all.

well after a couple of days reading these forms on battery life... im gonna try this out and give it a couple of days to see if it works.. coming from a pre this aint nothing but still would like to make it to at least 6pm w/o having to charge well heres hopeing.

one last question do we have to do this battery plug/unplug thing everyday or what Thanks in advance

Others like myself here routinely got about 12-14hrs on a charge with very light usage using 3G and wifi only (wimax is not available in Indy). With moderate to heavy usage, that time was cut in half.

However after rooting and flashing Ava-FroyoV10, I am getting over 30hours with pretty heavy usage now. I always get over 20 hours with very heavy usage using full brightness and leaving wifi on all the time, even in the car.

I just cant say enough good things about the ROM. To those whom are rooted already, I would urge you to give it a try. My HW version is 0003.

I understand the terms light, moderate and heavy are subjective. I intend to do some more bench testing to see how far I can take it.

I dunno guys, I guess I just got tired of turning the features off on my phone all of the time just to receive decent battery life. I bought the Seidio Innocell extended battery and the results are out of this world lol. My phone runs for three days on heavy use with accounts syncing every hour. Feels good man. My EVO was getting 4-6 hours of battery life before I made the shift. It is awesome that you guys found so many ways to help with the battery tho, I just don't believe that we should have to do this

You defenitley shouldn't have to do this with a product that you purchased..It is sickening to think so.

Recently, my Evo's battery life has been horrible ~8 hours with little use. I haven't been tweaking any settings that I know of and have very few things syncing. I thought my battery was defective, so I bought a new OEM battery off of amazon and the battery life hasn't improved.

For reference, I used to get about 20 hours per charge. I also use the launcher pro plus.

Any ideas?

I love my phone.....but!!!! I would consider myself a heavy user, and my battery life is HORRIBLE. I just don't get how some of you guys can claim battery life in the 10's of hours. I unplug my phone at around 7 every morning, then by 1 or 2 in the afternoon I have to put it on the charger at work. I have a GPS in the car, so never use it on the phone, I do keep the GPS antenna on because I'm prone to losing things and I use lookout mobile for incase I lose my phone. I have all of my syncs (except mail) set to off, manual, or the lowest frequency possible. I never get more than 6 or 7 hours of use. I do have my email client set to every ten minutes, I have to have it set there because I can't push yahoo bizmail. But the 5-7 hours of battery thing is getting old.

I've read through this and other forums and I just don't get the wild differences between some peoples battery life and others. Some claim to get 15-20 hours and still not be bled dry, while others, like me, could only dream of making it through the work day. I have resorted to purchasing an extra battery and a charger that charges the battery outside of the phone. I keep it on my desk, and rather than charging my phone midway through the day I just swap batteries.

This seems to be working for me, but I know the next issue will be that I wear out or break off the tabs on the battery cover.

After following the most common advice from this thread, I've extended my average battery life from around 7 hours before the 20% warning to around 16 hours, with light usage of the phone (a few texts, checking FB a couple of times, answering a few emails, one or two calls ... no 4G, no GPS, WiFi only enabled when I have an available AP). Not quite the 24 hours I was aiming for, but good enough for now.

One thing I'm confused about though. Some posts in this thread seem to indicate that sync does not need to be enabled for GMail in order to get notifications of new mail, because The Goog uses uses push technology. However, I've found that with "Background data" turned off, GMail doesn't pick up new mail unless I explicitly check for new mail within the app.

Is this what I should expect? I really need need new mail notifications for my GMail, but I also need more than 6 to 8 hours of idle time from a charge!

Try the 3500mAh extended battery. It is superb!

I am getting horrible battery life only 4 hrs with the phone, I got tired also tweaking different settings . Dont know how people are getting 8-10 hrs on it. I use the phone in a normal way check email , send some txt, calls thats it.
Phone was 100% a 9:00 am and in one hour it has already lost 25% battery .

I'm a bit upset myself too. You could tweak, or turn off as much features as possible - that will only give you a couple more minutes... nothing really noticeable.

I don't even worry about it too much - either keep the phone on charge while using, or get an extended battery.

I finally gave in and ordered the extended battery for my evo. I hope it is as good as everyone says it is

Yes, it is. I had bought one a few days ago.

Important: Remember that a new battery needs to go through at least 3 to 4 full charges to unleash its full potential. :)

Best of luck.

That's the one I have, and I'm very happy with it. For me in moderate usage, it usually lasts a day at least. Sometimes when I forget I have things running in the background, it drains a little more quickly.

Which one did you get? The 3500mAh is the one to buy; the 1750mAh one is not.
I have the 1750mAh and it work ok for me.
I have been adding the tips from this thread to the Getting Started with Android section on Extending Battery Life. In particular, Juicedefender seems to be the key because it turns things on and off automatically as you need them.

Thanks everyone!
Thanks for the tip; I will checking out this Juice-defender.

It doesn't take a mathematics genius to figure out that the 1750mAh battery doesn't have much more juice than the stock 1500mAh one. After all, it's only 17% more powerful. A 3500mAh one, however, will last much longer because it has 133% more power than the 1500mAh one.
