New Virgin phone, Motorola Triumph | JULY19 | $300

The screen is built to be touched, it's not covered in a sheet of plastic to disguise it.
Even computer touchpads where the manufacturer tried to blend it in, end up working horribly. Even some screen protectors make our screens dodgy. I replaced one already for this very reason.

Doesn't matter though.
I stopped in a store today and figured why not take a moment to look at some Huawei phones. They reminded me of the cheap Chinese game controller knockoffs for Playstations and such that cost about half as much as the normal ones.

I haven't seen or heard of any communities really focused on it, but I haven't really looked.

The Optimus V 2.2.1 had the hotspot included, but it was hidden.
The 2.2.2 version of the Optimus has had it completely removed. In other words, they figured it out.

So no, don't count on it being able to be done without root or an app.

The phone is not even out yet and your questioning it's quality,in my opinion no smartphone is worth what they charge saying this look at the prices of a phone if you do not sign a contract so 300 is not that bad for this phone, prepaid cstomers are on the bottom of the scale we take what you can get,or sign a contract.but to start knocking a phone that is not even out yet, hods no value,i will wait for the reviews once it is released to pass judgement.

I don't really even care about the reviews. I'll wait until i buy it to judge its quality. It can't really be compared to the other cheap huawei phones, like the ascend for example, because the ascend was meant to be cheap. The triumph is made to be a "high" end prepaid phone.

The phone isnt even out and your saying it is the best of the best and ranks as a high end phone that knocks a ton of other phones on the various carriers out of the water. We are not on the bottom of the scale. Your right we will take what is offered and make the best of it. Hence the reason the Optimus V community grew very fast. However to boast about how a phone is such a beast and will run circles around the phone YOU currently have holds no value AT ALL.

We all agree the best thing to do is wait and see how well or bad the phone is. I do find it very, very funny now a price has been put on it (sorta) most of the fanboi's are laying low and not trying to pump up that it will be sold for a competitive price.

Im curious, was it hard to train your butt to talk so well?

The facts of the two phones that are very similar in specs have been posted and are easily goggled.
I would like to see any links to statements from Moto or VM that the triumph is suppose to be a high end phone.

No where did i say this was the best phone on the planet, but you seem to like to put words in peoples mouths,a lot of the bad thinking about this phone comes from the fact their no custom roms available for it,and the cheapo s may no be able to hotspot it get home internet, but like i said i will wait for the reviews.

It's not high end phone you are right, and you need to stop insulting people who don't share in your opinion.

I agree, there's no need for attitude. This is a discussion not an argument. I put "high" end is parenthesis for a reason. No its nit high end for the major carriers, but it's likely the most high end phone you'll find on any prepaid carrier. I was simply stating that I don't take reviews as a decision point to buy the phone. If I want it I'll buy it and see for myself how good it is. If I don't like it I'll return it.

I like how people keep saying prepaid user are on the low end which is just not true. Just recently there is rumor that apple is trying to break into the ever growing prepaid market.

Will there be one or two iPhone 5s in September? Here's how to tell | Technology | guardian.co.uk

it buried in the article but there is rumor for iphone 4s which is suppose to be the prepaid version of the phone. The major reason could be because its an untapped market for them, but right now this is all speculation.

Far as I'm concerned competition is a good thing for us the consumer. If a big player like apple breaks in to the prepaid market it will mean current providers will have to step their game up and we are the ones that benefit from it.

I think people refer to the specs of the devices and not who makes them. We are still using single core and will be hitting 1GHz by mid to late July. Post paid is on dual core processor and has phones that basically function as laptop brain (Atrix). Yeah, I'd say pre-paid is low-end. Even IPhone 4s might come out when IPhone 5 does for the post paid world so at least a generation behind. With the extremely short refresh cycle on Android, pre-paid is a couple of generation behind on that system.

Pre-paid is lucrative but has a lot of cheap skates like me. Personally, I would gladly be two generations behind if I can pay $25/mo for as long as possible :)

Reports are that this is a Motorola branded Huawei (something Huawei is known for doing).
There are is some complaints on the internet about Huawei quality so I went and looked at some Huawei and found the quality was crap on the ones I saw. I did not say the Triumph itself was bad, just that I wasn't impressed with what I saw. I will wait, but there is nothing wrong with getting a sense of what the company is like before you buy.

I'm still not liking those buttons, but after seeing how they are done (basically part of the screen) they may work okay, but try finding them without looking (something I do often with my OV). I still have my doubts about this phone, especially for $300.

Lose the stigma, you no longer have to hide the fact that you use pre paid. At least not with Virgin.

By the way, clicking the estimated arrival time for shipping on Best Buy indicates July 19th.

I HATE the Motorola Triumph! It is tearing this family apart! Why can't we go back to the good old days of hating on the Samsung Intercept?

I absolutely agree with you!

If anyone has done there homework, I take 100% of the credit for (INFORMING) Everyone on this forum that the "motorola" Trumph is a Huawei.....

I wish I could share with you all, the abundent pm's I recieved calling me an idiot before a few of the inteligent few amung us actually "googled" the x6....

Any way,for the rest of you out there, my point is you can't bash someone for doing their homework and finding out Huawei makes a lot of garbage out there and dose not have a reputation for making a quality product.......

With the Intercept the buttons would illuminate when your fingers touched anywhere close to them so it wasn't an issue. I prefer buttons as well but unfortunately android is going to slowly get rid of all of them (like iPhone).

That's quite unfortunate... I rely on touch to locate the buttons when the phone is in my pocket (media play and media next), so it would really be inefficient for me to have to remove the phone from my pocket/bag every time I access it.

That sounds like fun. I never got a chance to fully hate the Intercept here. I only got to make a few carefully placed mean comments about it.

Anyone remember those first couple of hours when the Intercept was cool? Then do you remember a week later when the only thing on the screen was a glowing SAMSUNG logo and you threw the phone against the wall and said "@!# YOU SAMSUNG!!1! (the censor is definitely "I hate")? My favorite part was when I went crawling back to LG again and promised never to leave it for crap like Kyocera or Samsung again.

But that's not the topic here unfortunately.

While you are right about there being nothing wrong with trying out Huawei, you have to remember that this is still technically a Motorola phone. This phone has Motorola's name and logo on it, so if this phone is the utter poop I'm assuming the Huawei phones you tried were, Motorola will be the one taking the blame. What can Motorola say if the Triumph ends up right next to the Intercept? "It's not our fault! We rebranded a cheap Chinese phone to save money!" Obviously, if this phone turns up a flop, Motorola will take one gigantic blow to their reputation no matter what they say.

Motorola is already getting crushed at the bottom of the competition. The Atrix had its fame for a day and lost all its luster soon after, and now it is "that phone" (phones do not want to be "that phone"). The Droid X2 is just a Droid X with a Dual Core processor really, and people seem more interested in the Droid Charge and Thunderbolt, even with their single coredness, Motorola ruled Verizon back in the GHz processing leap, but they got trampled by everyone once Dual Core came in. Basically, Motorola doesn't have much going for them right now, and I doubt they would be so willing to risk making it even worse by letting the Triumph turn up as garbage after being so highly anticipated by so many different types of people.

Yes, the Triumph is definitely a rebranded Ideos X6. I'm not arguing against that. But even phones that are rebranded end up having some slight differences. We know there is a CDMA radio instead of a GSM radio in there, so obviously Motorola had to have Huawei change the design up a bit, so there is always a possibility that Motorola made a few other changes in terms of quality. Personally, I wouldn't put my name on something and pass it off as mine if I hadn't made sure it wasn't garbage. I would hope Motorola shares that thought process, but maybe I'm just being optimistic.

I also think we should stop referring to the price Best Buy set for the pre-order as the actual price of the phone. To me, it just seems highly unlikely that Best Buy would have the official price as marked by Virgin Mobile. First of all, Virgin Mobile said they don't have a price set in response to Best Buy's pre-order, so I'm not sure why people seem to be taking Best Buy's word over the actual company's word. Second, Virgin Mobile hasn't released their pricing for a reason. If they don't actually have a price yet, then that's that. If they have a price set but don't want people to know it yet, why would they tell it to Best Buy? We've seen what Best Buy would do with the price if they had it. If VM wanted to be secretive, whispering it into the Best Buy megaphone wouldn't quite be the way to go.

Also, in a CNET article, it said that the portfolio manager for Sprint prepaid (that may not be 100% correct, but I'm too lazy to look up the article right now, but this is definitely close) expected the phone to fall in the $175-$250 price range. That, along with the outrage a lot of people have had at double B's price and the arguments I made against a $300 price tag lead me to believe this handset probably won't be emptying our pockets as much as people have assumed.
