Re: 6P bend and scratch test, not good viewing!

Mod Note - OP video removed. It has been debunked and obviously isn't true. This goes to show -- don't always believe the first video you see :).

But... But... If its on the internet it must be true!

Re: Anyone have the "bulge" on the back/bottom piece?

Mine is slightly uneven but no bump. So flush at one slide a slightly raised at this point. I guess the components are a bit packed beneath it.

Update: actually if you look at the iFixit teardown this is a plastic panel that's glued down. The device is accessed via some screws below this so nothing to worry about I'd say regardless of how flush or not it is.

I don't think it's untrue, just misleading. He destroyed the screen integrity with heat and scratches before bending it. He should have bailed on the bend test when he released he cracked the glass.

Yeah, disregard that bs stress test. Check the many other bend tests where the reviewer strained to even budge it.

Re: 6P bend and scratch test, not good viewing!

The bend test was not a true test because the heat from the lighter warmed up the glue that holds the screen in place and the glass was already cracked. However I was not impressed at how easily the screen did in fact crack, the person who did the video did a simple scratch test it should not have made the screen crack the way it did.

It was not a simple scratch test. Basically, Gorilla Glass 4 has a hardness on the Mohs scale of about 6.8; this is roughly the same hardness as and (sand is not a 9, as he claimed, but is primarily silicon -- the same thing the screen is made of). So, the phone performed on the test about how you would expect, it resisted scratches up until 6 but, starting with 7, the tool was able to scratch the glass -- the tool was harder than the phone is rated for. Additionally, you could tell he was pressing hard and the tool had a relatively sharp point -- which makes it more likely to scratch.

Now, he should have stopped at 7 -- again, the GG4 is rated at 6.8 and using the tool rated 7 proved that. The problem is, he still went on with the harder tools. Again, using a tool that is much harder than the glass is rated, with a sharp point, it starts becoming very likely that the tool will crack the screen.

Not to mention heating up GG will weaken it.

Re: 6P bend and scratch test, not good viewing!

Okay, let's have a reality check.

Who BURNS their phone before bending it? Obviously, you're not only making the metal weaker but also, when the screen cracked, he was essentially bending a piece of aluminum. The heat may have also compromised the adhesive.

If you look closely, the phone snapped at the exact point where the heat was applied.

I dare him to take an iPhone 6S Plus and do the exact same thing to it, or the HTC One A9. If our explanations are correct, the same thing should happen to both.

Re: Guy Re-Does Bend Test

How is he jumping ahead of everyone waiting for their phone? Then he just destroys it there are some upset customers out there wondering if that could have been their phone.

in the last week people ordering 32 and 64 GB Aluminums were all having their phones shipped to them in days. hence why his 2nd phone is aluminum IMO.

Re: Guy Re-Does Bend Test

Well I will say the 2nd video is legit for sure. It still does not matter to me cause I love this phone and wont put it thru torture like he has done. I guess the good that can come of it is Google and Huawei will take notice and that is one more improvement to make next years Nexus (assuming Huawei does) even better!!!

Re: 6P bend and scratch test, not good viewing!

I believe it. I still love my 6P, and it's still naked.

Re: 6P bend and scratch test, not good viewing!

With all due respect, I've put my smart phones (various Blackberries, iPhones, Samsungs and LGs) in my back pocket for the past 8 years or so, and have never had "bad things happen". I do not make a habit of sitting on them, but it has happened on occasion when I forgot the phone was there, and have never had a bending problem.

That said, I take this video with something of a grain of salt and already plan to try and be extra cautious with this phone due to its size (especially its length), but I still hope it's not going to bend just because I carry it in my back pocket.

Ditto^^^ I've been carrying my phones in my back pocket since the Razr Maxx. Never had any issues, and yes, I weigh 250.

Re: Anyone have the "bulge" on the back/bottom piece?

My aluminum 64gb has this issue. Just noticed it today, called Google and RMAed it.
For $600 there should be no noticeable physical defects.....
