Nexus 6P Bending and Breaking Thread

Re: 6P bend and scratch test, not good viewing!

Explain these points to me.

Firstly why are people making these videos, if you apply enough pressure to any object a car, or a phone it be bend and break. Nothing is indestructible and neither are companies going out of there way to make something indestructible.

If you apply a force or pressure to anything it will break even a car, dont see any benefit apart from wasting your own money and insurance claims to do these videos. This isnt news.

Secondly when have any of you actually put a phone in your pocket and your pockets are so tight youve pulled out your phone and its bent or even worse bent in half?

Also have you ever seen anyone saying im returning my phone because its split in half? Manufacturers who make phones or anything technology wise thinner and lighter will have to sacrifice screws to glues or adhesives or vice versa. We all know this.

Next thing on an everyday basis a question to all, when have you ever sparked a lighter next to your screen? Anyone ?? I thought so know one another useless experiment. Why dosent he try getting a small blow torch out and seeing what happens? I cant be the only one having this on my mind.

Next thing Im not sure what this is proving to be honest making or creating these videos. Will it blend probably. Its not poor manufacturing its what this world is now making sadly until some new space age material is found.

Rant over!

Re: 6P bend and scratch test, not good viewing!

I do worry about my phone in my pocket. Sometimes I bend my legs to get in my car and feel the phone getting a lot of pressure in my pocket.

I hope that it doesn't bend in my pocket.

Re: Anyone have the "bulge" on the back/bottom piece?

I have a slight bulge and some pitting in the aluminum around the rim. The pitting bothers me more than the hump.

All in all, I don't care. I'll have the phone for two years, most likely, and it's going to get pretty banged up probably.

Now that you mention it, maybe it's time for a case...

Take phone out of pocket before getting in car. I could see some slight bend the way the iPhone 6+ did. Same aluminum, apple went with stronger version for 6s+ but this version is supposed to be more premium.

Re: 6P bend and scratch test, not good viewing!

I just watched this video as I am still waiting to order the 6P but I am not so sure now, sorry if this video upsets some owners but I feel it needs to be seen just so owners are aware that it seems quite a fragile phone.

Every mobile device you've ever owned could be scratched or bent. Pull your current mobile device out. Get a knife and scratch it. Grab both ends and bend it. It's easy. But don't do either. Just use your device as you always have. If you've always used a case, buy a case. Success!

Re: Anyone have the "bulge" on the back/bottom piece?

The new one has a slight bulge and several scratches on the back. I may just go back to my Turbo because in my opinion this is ridiculous. My first one is actually better but for $500 I want a mint device. I'm a picky guy, I know that.

Or I'll stick to my original Nexus which has two small scratches on the bezels as they're less noticeable. I really don't want to ditch the big display. Lol. I don't know!

Edit: Cancelled the first phones RMA and created one for the second since its worse. Not going to give up a Nexus due to a slight scratch but I'm keeping the better of the two. I have a case anyways and the first phones are subtle.

Just got my replacement, its better but not perfect by any means. Guess I'll keep the replacement, I can't keep RMAing these things, seems like I'll never get a perfect one...

Agreed, I actually considered going back to my Turbo and saving myself the hassle of annoyances but I'm going to stick through it. My Turbo looks newer a year later than my Nexus does on day one. So sad. :(

In my case, the second was worse than the first.

Man, you guys in this thread are not making me excited about getting this phone tomorrow. I'm so OCD and I'd go through 10 of them if I had to. But with the nicks and bulges and screen irregularities, I'm not as happy as I thought I'd be.

Sorry :(

It drives me nuts because my Turbo is in perfect condition a year later but at the same time faster updates, bigger display and better speakers are worth the small imperfections. They're not that noticeable, I'm just OCD.

It's alright. I'm just as OCD as you. It's one of my primary issues with Android. I've had one issue or another with every phone I've had. This looks like the perfect phone but it seems like it still has its share of problems.

That's the spirit! Maybe my OCD will disappear in due time. One can hope, anyway.

Re: Anyone have the "bulge" on the back/bottom piece?

Got my replacement today. No bulge. It's perfect. Exactly how I expect it to be when spending my money. Wasn't gonna overlook ish.

Don't settle.

Don't settle.

So what am I supposed to do? Continue to ask for new devices just for the perfect one? It's a hassle and I'm not sure how much Google is willing to send before saying enough. The support calls take long time.

I bought the Aluminum. How is the Graphite? I wonder if it's more durable?

Firstly why are people making these videos,

Because a million YouTube views is worth about $3000. That's why.

The phones fine.

The guy in those videos looks like a world champion body builder and even he was shaking with the effort to bend it while holding it precisely in the only way it can be made to bend.

Re: 6P bend and scratch test, not good viewing!

Look at the thickness of the phone. Most metals that thick can be bent in my hands. But here's a radical thought, use it as a phone and it will be fine and stronger than many other. As for the flame test - why? Who in their right mind would do this? If he tries this test on his TV it would set on fire. This is not normal use for any phone, from any manufacturer.

Re: Anyone have the "bulge" on the back/bottom piece?

some on xda are simply using a hair dryer and pressure to get it to stick

Re: Anyone have the "bulge" on the back/bottom piece?

No bulge.

I echo though -- don't settle.

Honestly, I wouldn't settle. I'll get as many replacement devices as it takes. This is your hard earned money - even if you're a billionaire. You should get a device that comes out of the box looking like it hasn't been touched. I understand there are manufacturing issues here and there, but we shouldn't have to compromise. Google will continue to hook you up. I've never had a single issue with their customer service.
