No matter how good the V30 is, it still may not put a huge dent in sales of the duopoly.

Those pictures illustrate my point though. The wide angle lens isn't needed for any of those pictures and the images would have been better if you had just used the main camera lens instead of the secondary wide angle. The first living room picture looks better than the second. Mostly you just give everything a fish eye look with the wide angle lens.

Can we just say the secondary wide-angle lens is a fun thing to have?

I don't have a G6, but I have a wide-angle lens for my Sony a6000 and it's a fun lens to have. Yes, there's panorama, but there's something fun about capturing a wide scene with a single button press.

Some scenes just can't be accomplished with a panorama mode.

No one wants to sit there and take panorama pictures when they can push the button once and get everything.

Not everyone in the gym who works out wears wired headphones. When I mean a lack of a USB-C standard, this is what I'm talking about:

1) You cannot plug in HTC made USB-C headphones into any other OEM devices and get audio. You cannot plug in a Moto don't into a HTC U11 and get audio.

2) I can plug in my USB-C headphones into my Mi Note 2 (and 950XL) and play audio right away. When I plug them into my V20, I have to manually select the audio from the same pop-up window that occurs when you try to data transfer via cable to a PC. And I lose the Hifi DAC because it's tuned for the 3.5mm jack. I'm sure it's hit or miss like that with other phones.

When everyone plugs into a 3.5mm there's no fiddling...just play and go.

Sony had a comparable issue. In my former Z3 and current Z3 tablet compact, active noise cancelling was done in concert with the phone and specific headphones. You can still get regular audio, but not the noise cancelling. I plugged the noise cancelling headphones into other 3.5mm Jack and it gave off static and played no audio. By the Z5, Sony built the noise cancelling into the phone so you could plug in whatever headphones and still get active noise cancelling.

Google has a terrible track record for audio. It is only now improving Bluetooth audio using some of Sony's codecs (so when they kill the 3.5mm in the Pixel 2, you know why). They barely scrapped together a standard for USB-C charging just now and got OEMs and Qualcomm to follow.

I don't mind if they kill the 3.5mm, but a sensible compromise is one universal standard codec that all OEMs can use and s secondary profile that allows OEMs to deliver custom sound through proprietary headphones. That way, if you lose the damn dongle and are tight on a budget, you get an adequate replacement and are not assed out.

Most people here didn't get the quad Dacs in the G6 but across the pond they did BTW.

No one wants wide angle lenses on their smartphone either. They're completely unnecessary and right there with panoramas in the level of interest they get from consumers. That's why literally no manufacturers are following LG's lead on that.

It's all about marketing and awareness. Whenever I share pictures and video I get comments asking me what camera I'm using. Cause they don't know. Because LG doesn't know how to market.

If Apple launched a wide angle lens it would immediately become the next best thing.

Apple and Samsung followed the dual camera lead.

The extra camera sensor just boils down to personal preference. The V20 is my second dual camera setup after the Honor 8. Because I'm more of a landscape guy, I prefer the wide angle lens. But I can see the merit of going the zoom or monochrome route. They're nice to haves, but if your main camera sucks, you're assed out.

I'm more concerned about LG's willingness to confirm and can easily see we get only one more year of wide angle lenses in their devices. Maybe it is wishful thinking for me, but seeing the comments here about the wide angle lens makes me think LG wants so bad to get a good pic of the market that they will continue to drop distinctive features to look like everyone else.

Who said it's needed? Have you used a wide angle in day to day or just knocking it without ever trying it? It definitely can be useful for some.

Now if it's just something not for you that's fine.

I do.. so since I do you saying "no one" is incorrect.

I didn't think I'd be interested in the wide angle lens and thought of it just as a gimmick. Once I started using my G6 and wide angle lens though, it couldn't have been further from that. I'm using the wide angle lens all the time, it just adds a whole new dimension to photography for me and allows me to experiment with different composition.

I visited the RAF museum last week, this is a place the wide angle lens really excels. I watched others taking "cropped" images of the aircraft on their phones, then I come along with my wide angle lens and managed to get the whole aircraft into shot.

I think the person who said the wide angle lens is fun is spot on. No it's not necessary, but it's really fun and different to use. Shouldn't photography on a cell phone mostly be about fun?

Exactly. And one part of the fun is trying to decide when to use the wide angle lens. I find myself often taking two pictures - 1 regular, 1 wide angle and deciding later which I liked more.

The thing about a wider focal length lens is that you can actually fit way more into a composition window at one time than a panorama.

It might seem gimmicky, but use a wide-angle lens on any camera and you might find yourself having fun. Plus, it's also a boon for those taking photos of their house or car.

Just last night went out on a date and asked the server to take pictures of us and showed her the two modes and asked if she would mind taking a couple in each. Started off normal, and as usual, when she hit the wide she said "oh wow". It's really nice to have once you start using it. And as someone else mentioned I usually take a couple in each mode to see what I like better later. And also as mentioned, it did help me get great interior shots of a car I sold on Craigslist.

You can finally get a more noisy, more distorted view of your house or car. Hooray!

Another shot made worse with the wide angle lens. The main camera easily took the best picture here and an iPhone 7 shot using the telephoto lens and portrait mode would have been a significantly better shot than the wide angle shot you took. All the wide angle lens did was make the subject smaller and require a flash due to the smaller aperture.

And yet we still prefer it because it captured more of the scenery in a nice way to give a better picture of where we were. Thank you.

I agree. The standard shot might technically be the "better" one, but I prefer the wide angle shot more. It adds a bit of atmosphere to the picture.

And corrected LG's mistake and used a telephoto lens instead of a wide-lens.

You know what I mean. A tiny percentage of people care about wide angle lenses. Nobody else cares.
Do you have any evidence it's only a tiny percentage or are you going off you own dislike for it and assuming everyone must feel the same way ?
