No matter how good the V30 is, it still may not put a huge dent in sales of the duopoly.

Droid life readers are less than 1% of smartphone consumers and there is a selection bias. Assuming that their readership is similar to AC's, that's less than 1% of their readers that chose to vote. If 2357 people randomly selected from all smartphone buyers had 18% saying that dual camera lenses were important, then because of the sample size and random nature of the selection, we could infer that there are likely half a billion people that want dual cameras and with your other point, let's say only 20% of those people liked wide versus telephoto .... that's still 100 million people. 100 million people is a lot of consumers and not something LG or anyone can just completely ignore, even if they choose not to fully cater to minorities like that. There's a lot of money being left on the table if everyone ignores that 100 million consumer voice.

They're the least popular dual cameras on the market by sales. They're a drop in the bucket compared to the iPhone's telephoto lens setup by Apple (and soon to be Samsung) and the monochrome setup by Huawei. We know that cameras are one of the biggest selling points on a smartphone.

It's also worth noting that LG dual cameras are, by far, the least popular dual cameras on the market by sales. They're a drop in the bucket compared to the iPhone's telephoto lens setup by Apple (and soon to be Samsung) and the monochrome setup by Huawei.

But as stated earlier, we have no idea if this is true or not. There's no way to buy ONLY the LG camera with all the other features from an iPhone 7+, etc. You have to buy the entire phone, which comes with all the compromises of that phone. We have no reason to believe that even a single person chose an iPhone over a G6 for the sole reason that they preferred the iPhone camera over the G6. We CAN however assume that many people passed on the G6, even if they were interested in the camera, because the iPhone is a better device.

Well we could also go by LG's performance in camera comparisons. Again, LG isn't popular.

Most reviews honestly like it and some prefer it for camera taking from very well known reviewers.

You sure do make a lot of claims with no real evidence. If it's your opinion that's fine but your opinion on things doesn't make it a fact to the rest of us.

LG makes 5th or 6th place cameras these days. There is plenty of evidence, but I can only lead the horse to water. I can't make it drink. You guys like peep hole pictures. Most people don't. Never heard of anybody that cared about wide angle lenses on smartphones outside of an LG forum, aside from maybe Krystal Key, but even Krystal doesn't think LG makes the best cameras so she clearly didn't care that much about the wide angle lens.

Most people from your 2300 people poll? Yeah sorry that's not a capture of really any of the true market lol.

It is more than enough of a sample size to represent a population the size of the entire United States.
If they were randomly selected from all smartphone customers in the country, this would be true. But the selection bias makes it nationally and globally meaningless.

It sounds wrong, but it isn't. If you don't believe me, look it up yourself. There are sample size calculators online. Make the population size 320 million, confidence of .95, and margin of error of 2%

The demographics provide skewed results since they are not representative of the total population. You can tell yourself what you want all you want but it doesn't make it true. Anyway I'm done with this topic so please go enjoy your phone and be happy with your choices.

I think the second camera is a gimmick, but the other kinds of dual cameras are either. Maybe they are a little bit more liked by customers, but all in all I don't see that much of a difference in terms of practicability of the different dual camera setups.

What I find disappointing are the lack of an OIS and the aperture. An OIS has to be added in the V30 and the aperture should change to at least 2.0 in my opinion. At least the OIS is a must-have for me, it would be disgraceful to leave it out again in such a premium and pricey device.

Talking about cameras, the front facing camera needs to improve too of course. Those 5 megapixels without OIS are a joke.

I have yet to hear any real displeasure about the wide angle from anyone who has actually owned a G5, G6, or V20 including those who moved on to other phones. It would be like me calling the stylus in the Note series a gimmick and yet I've never owned one. The people that own and love the Note series certainly find it useful, but I'll have to take their word for it. I actually started a thread in the Samsung section and got some amazing responses as to why the stylus is important to them.

As said, to me all dual cameras are gimmicks. I'm not saying they make no fun, but I'd prefer a huge single sensor with let's say 24 megapixels + giant pixels like Ultrapixel sensors have + an aperture of 1.4. But well, I'll to take what the companys make ...

I hear you.... No denying one larger sensor would be nice.

I am fine not having OIS also given that the best camera from 2016 didn't have it and was able to accomplish better results with only software.

Very few phones have OIS in the front facing camera. The HTC 10 was one of the last year and one of the better FFCs. I do agree, and posted this earlier, the secondary camera would benefit from a lower aperture and possibly OIS.

I'd love to see LG go with a setup where you get 2X zoom in the main camera and a wide (not ultra wide) angle lens. Give us the ability to shoot with either camera equally well, or go from stitched shots that give both a wide field of view and better depth.

Secondary cameras are gimmicks, but smartphone cameras are meant to be fun. So why not find a formula that let's the user be creative?

Those are some great suggestions.
Maybe someday....
