Found this today and rooted stock gingerbread on my Dx2. This will let u root GB w/o flashing back to froyo! Worked as it said except I had to flash back to gb because I was rooted w gingerbreak. The page says its for the DROID 3, but trust me it works on x2.

Apparently I cannot post links yet sorry!

So glad I waited for this. Worked perfect first try! So easy! Really didn't want to SBF back to froyo and go through all the pre-rooted mess. Now off to do a titanium backup and get all my apps back! =D

So is there a way to do this root without losing all my apps?

Also is it possible to unroot and go back to stock firmware after using this method?

Sorry about the noob questions! Just want to make sure I am well informed before I root.

Im still new to android my self. You can sbf back to stock for warranty or resale. On the apps front u should be able to but I didn't cuz I wanted a clean install after playing w my phone dling and deleting stuff. I would do a quick google search to find out how.

Rooting doesn't cause the loss of any files or apps. Rooting just gives you elevated priveleges.

I was JUST about to sbf back to froyo to root my phone last night. I'm glad I didnt. I'll give this a try.

One thing I noticed is that the screen shot that was posted in that thread shows Android 2.3.4. Will it work for 2.3.3 as well?

Just wanted to share, this worked flawlessly for me. Twice. lol. I had to sbf my phone cuz I got cocky thinking I could change something I probably shouldnt have messed with. Got stuck on a boot loop. But fixed it and rooted again with this file and now I have my first custom ROM on my phone. Im getting the hang of this. lol

wow, that was easy (pushes button)
just as an FYI I saw a comment somewhere that I needed to unlock the phone after each reboot, I did that. Not sure what is going to happen if you don't but it worked flawlessly for me:D

tried this on my droid x2 2.3.3. the program said it worked and it even rebooted my phone. still no root however. tried it 5 times already. any ideas? is it because im not on 2.3.4?

I had a similar problem. Look at page 15 of the rooting thread. There's a command prompt method that worked for me. I had previously tried rooting GB with z4root and gingerbreak, which caused a problem with the superuser app. All good now, and and no need to mess around with sbf.

Are you sure it didnt work? Nothing will noticeably change on your phone. Look in your apps. If you have an app called superuser, you are rooted.

Worked great..simple as can possibly be..rooted in seriously less than 5mins..this was so simple compared to flashing ROMs and sbf'ing
