Where are people seeing 1k?

I see as a charge on my credit card (actually just a verification)... that hit right after I configured and purchased the following:

Pixel XL Black
128GB
Nexus Protection
Tax

To be specific: $1016.16

They won't actually charge the card until it ships.... which I don't think I will let happen anymore.

Thought about ordering the 128 GB XL but couldn't pull the trigger on $900+ phone I'm not 100% excited about. Not crazy about overall design. I'll use my Nexus 6 and 5x as daily drivers at least a few more months, then I'll probably get the 6P.

Ok guys.... I cancelled. I think I just needed to hear all of this to kick me into reality. It's a joke to spend $1,000 on a phone especially when all along, I have jabbed at the Apple user in my home about how ridiuclous it was they he spent almost $1000 for an iPhone.

I'm going to see what kind of price drops come in the future. I am mainly interested in that assistant. Maybe it will come to Nexus.

FYI - when I cancelled, I looked back at the sale page. All of the 128GB models are out of stock. So... somebody bought them. I still agree with pretty much everything said here.

I think you made the right move! The phone is WAY overpriced.

$799 for the 128GB, case, Nexus protect, and taxes during pre-order when it was available to preorder for the 6P. Now it's $1016 before a case. I think I spent close to $1016 with my 6P, cases, cables, external battery, VR set, and Bluetooth controller.

Once you add everything up it comes out to 1000$, Pixel xl, 128gb, plus insurance. I think iss 50$ shy of 100$

I'll just repost this from another thread:

No way are those prices justified for what you're getting. Google is terrible at marketing, and that keynote was painful to watch. There was no mention or demo of the speaker set up or DAC to calm the fears of those of us used to dual front stereo speakers, no upgrade in battery capacity, a smaller screen, and still no OIS for the camera.

Given all of that, we're expected to pay anywhere from $649 to $869? And that's not yet including tax, whether or not we decide to get device protection (which also includes tax) and any accessories (which also includes tax). That can come to as much as $1,000+.

I'm sorry, but it seems Google hasn't learned from their mistake with the Nexus 6. Granted, the Pixels are more premium devices in feel and performance, but to me, they haven't achieved iPhone-level status to justify spending iPhone-level prices just yet. Google is obviously trying to be Apple with these Pixel phones. And just like Apple, they're going to dole out features and hardware specs piecemeal, necessitating people to pay through the nose for devices, as well as soon-to-be proprietary accessories.

Now, if I won a Pixel XL, would I be foolish enough to turn it down? Hell no! But as an Android user, if I wanted an iPhone and all that it entails to be in Apple's ecosystem, I'd just get an iPhone, not a wannabe iPhone running Android. I don't see myself actually spending for a Pixel XL until there's a comfortable price drop. :/

Upgrading to 6P over Pixel XL?

Am I alone in feeling vastly disappointed with the Pixel? Android 7.1 and Google Assistant look and sound amazing, but the Pixel itself is pure and simply ugly. And there is zero justification for that ridiculous price.

I'm likely getting a new 6P over the XL. Am I alone in this, or are you feeling disgruntled like I am?

To make things worse, I held out waiting for the Oct 4 launch in part to see if the 6P price would fall and if the actual launch of the Pixel XL would sway me, but nope. And now Google's gone and purged all Nexus phones from their store.

With the 6P being my first Nexus device, I've been spoiled with the fast updates and lack of bloatware. I really can't stomach the thought of using another phone that isn't updated right away.

Samsung devices are premium but the lack of timely updates puts it in a different category than the iPhone. If Google is taking more control of Android, I hope it spurs phone manufacturers to update in a more timely manner.

I honestly like the design. The specs are beyond most of the competition. 7.1 and new features look great. And if the software is truly as optimized as they are saying, it should be the smoothest and most stable Android has ever run. I'm coming from the 6p.

No, you're not alone, but many will agree with the second poster. I didn't wait as the leaks didn't impress me so bought the 5x. I wanted 6P but just too big to handle. My N5 is dying (well, just getting old, like me ). I really like the 5X. Go figure. Project Fi still has the phones for sale. The price remains the same for the 6p.

Im very happy with the 6P i got in June. I am sure the Pixel XL is gonna be awesome but the cost is way too expensive. In Canada on a 2 year contract for 32GB Pixel (non XL) they start at $400!! thats the same price as the Note or iPhones...insane.

That's appalling, it's the Galaxy Nexus all over again only worse. At least the GN was unlocked so you could load a third party ROM to compensate for Verizon's refusal to issue updates.

I feel betrayed, the Pixel is a giant step backwards from the Nexus. One of the most important aspects of the Nexus is it's carrier independence, all updates come directly from Google not from a carrier (especially Verizon), there are no carrier "subsidies" to lock you in, and you can hack it if you want. The Pixel is a Verizon exclusive, something that was supposed to have gone away years ago, and even though they still sell an unlocked Pixel directly from Google the carrier's that have been left out (especially AT&T which isn't a part of Project FI) will be less than enthusiastic about supporting it or making sure that it's properly provisioned on their networks.

Just to reiterate, there's been no information to indicate that the Google Pixel has an unlockable bootloader, regardless of where it is purchased from. The Google Store might be unlockable, but doesn't sound likely right now.
