Note 10/+ gripes

I was a big fan of the note series, I have had one since the note 4. I even let things go when I had to return my Note7 for being unsafe. However, I won't be buying the new one. They got rid of the headphone jack and the SD card expandable storage. If I wanted an iPhone, I would have purchased one. This is a terrible change, and I personally am going to be looking for something that actually cares about what the consumers want and not what they can get away with to make more money.

I wish Samsung would offer a flat screen option on the high end phone. The curved screen is stupid, and only done for aesthetics, but detracts from the function of the phone.

Upgrade the camera sensor already! Looks like this is coming next year. Hopefully they used the larger sensor. If they use the 108MP and pixel bin 9 pixels instead of 4, we get a LARGE sensor with 12MP

preach! this is the one reason, and my biggest gripe, why I am always thinking of moving to apple... hate the curved screen (but hate the notch more). and there is not one app that codes their stuff properly so that you're not always activating the wrong thing in app.

I wish Samsung would offer the ability to deactivate the curved portion of the screen so you aren't always hitting the wrong thing. I turn off the panels because of this.

I miss the full control of being able to have what I want on an Always on Screen. I had to download some apps to be able to hide the battery status on the Always on Screen. I also do not like anything showing on my status part of the phone I like it completely clean. Had to use a app for that. These Items should have never been taken out of settings. This is my home screen on my phone. I love to just look at the beauty of it and show it off with no distractions lol. wonderwomanphonewallpaper.jpg

There's more fish in the sea than just SamApple. I'm currently considering the coming Asus ROG Phone 2. Flat screen, no notches/hole punches, bezels, and headphone jack are still there. I am a little miffed at no micro-SD card slot, but has a 512 GB internal storage option.

thanks. I'll look into it, but really, I need the pen more than anything and don't want to deal with too devices, carrying around, etc., when I need my notes or want to take a note. I use it for my business and the convenience wins every time. when some other maker gets a pen like Sammy, then I'm gone. their note app isn't that wonderful, but I use it. it's all about the pen. (and the camera lol)

Gotcha. I suggested that because you said you keep looking at Apple, which doesn't have a pen option either. For Android, the closest you could get to the Note would be the LG Stylo series, but those pale in comparison, and I wouldn't consider it a flagship phone like the Note line.

I could be mistaken, and I really don't want an Apple (trust me), but they have a pen now and while it isn't part of the phone, it can be used with it. again, don't own one so I may be wrong. but seriously, don't really want Apple. just hate the curved screen and Samsung junk. love the pen so I'm kind of stuck.

I looked into the ROG Phone 2, read a review and checked the specs, and it's definitely a beast phone, but the weight is too much for me. even the 10+ is bordering on too large, but I want the sd slot so I'm going for it.

The Apple Pencil can only be used with the iPad. No phone support.

That's what I was thinking as well.

A 6Ah battery will do that. Lol. I personally like a weighty phone. It makes it easier to hold due to sitting firm in my hand.

thank you both. so yet another reason I don't want Apple lol

my hand strength isn't what it used to be so that much weight would just be too much. even the Note 8 pushes it after a while. the size is a bit too much too. looks like a great phone though. really like the other specs.

There is a Note 10 Plus with sd card slot......USB-C headphones in the box, you can buy a dongle for $15, buy or choose as a promotional gift a pair of Galaxy Buds or any wireless earbuds or earphones. You've got options. Don't fixate on not having a headphone jack because by doing so you're missing the fact that Samsung is offering future technology . Yes bluetooth has been around for awhile. But now companies will begin making bluetooth and wireless and USB-C earphones with better quality. As far as sd card slot...You're missing the fact that the Notes offer 256GB of storage. Do you need a card slot? No, but I understand you may want it. But if you allow yourself to not fixate on what's not there you're see what is there and what you can do without. IMHO.

Having an issue with wake up alarms. I have my phone do an auto restart at 3AM every day. when alarm rings the tone of my phone ringer the first time. if I set an alarm after the first on goes off. The alarm then rings the tone I have selected for the alarm like it should. Wondering why the first time after a restart it rings my phone ringer tone? My note 8 didn't do that.

I've had my Note 10+ 5G 512GB (Verizon) for just over 24 hours now. I don't have any gripes. Here is my two cents though.

Battery Life and Charging: I haven't had it long enough to truly test it. To be honest, I am never more than 15-20 feet away from a charger either at work, in my car, or at home. I have the 2017 folding wireless charger and it charges OK, but not as fast as the included wall charger. It charges pretty quickly on my iOttie wireless charger in my car. It charged significantly slower when I plugged it in to my Dell desktop at home (my Dell has USB 2 though; I have a USB 3.1/C PCIe card on the way).

FPS: The FPS works great. It is accurate and fast. It was a good call putting it back on the front. I will have to retrain myself; I had a Note 8 (which my daughter now has).

Storage: It was really funny when I put my Samsung 256GB card in it. I have about 440GB of free space of internal storage, and about 80GB of free space on the SD Card. I never came close to filling up my Note 8's 64GB of internal memory; I had about 25GB of free space left on it. I normally downloaded things to my SD card and that is where I same my pictures and videos. I went from a butt ton of storage to a crap ton of storage. I contemplated getting the Evo Select 512GB from Amazon (about $90), but decided to save the money. I don't foresee using that much space anytime soon.

Button Placement: I've already gotten use the new button placement, that happened within a couple hours of use. In fact, when I was transferring everything from my daughter's S7 to my old Note 8, I kept pressing the Bixby button on the Note 8 and swearing because it wouldn't turn on. I had completely forgotten that the power button was on the right side. Relearning button placement was easy.

Headphone Jack (or lack thereof): I would have preferred that Samsung keep it. However, I don't use headphones all that often, and when I do, it is either my Bose Wireless BT or JBL BT headphones. I'm not an audiophile and I don't really hear the difference between BT and wired headphones. The downside is that if my BT headphones' batteries die, then I'm having to use my USB-C headphones, which means I can't charge my phone and listen to music or movies at the same time. Again, not a HUGE problem for me.

Connect to Windows PC (aka Your Phone): It's working great. I had already used it on my Note 8, however, I couldn't screen mirror with my Note 8. I really don't use that function a lot. I DO use the text function though. It is nice sending and receiving texts on my Surface Pro (2017). I've gotten it to sync with both my Surface Pro and my Dell desktop with no worries. I know people had a problem a few days ago, but that was due to the Your Phone service being down and not with the phone itself.

S-Pen: I like the new S-Pen. It is slightly thicker than the Note 8's which makes it a bit more comfortable to hold. I've always found Samsung's S-Pens to be a bit small for my fat hands, so making the Note 10/10+ S-Pen a little thicker was a welcome improvement for me. I also like the remote controls incorporated. There have been several times where I wish I had a way to put the phone on a tripod and use a remote.

Which segues into the camera. I haven't had a chance to test it yet. When I do, I'll post my results in the Note 10/10+ photos thread.

Over all: Because I came from a Note 8, there are some significant upgrades for me. I skipped the Note 9 because there wasn't any improvements compelling enough for me to upgrade. I have a feeling I will be keeping this for at least a couple of years. I don't really have any gripes...yet. The only thing that would pull me away from Samsung would be if Microsoft decided to get back into the mobile phone business again. I loved my Lumia 928 then Lumia Icon.

Do you really need to restart it every night? I restart very occasionally and it never had any issues. I use device optimization every couple of days off I remember (at least I did on my Note 9). Maybe do a restart once a week instead on a day you don't need an alarm.

There is improvements on the Note 9 if you got the 512 version.

My biggest gripe is the loss of the rear fingerprint scanner and the finger gestures that the fps served as. It made using such a big phone a lot easier. I know there are gestures but not for all situations such as having an app open.

I like the front fps but you can do finger gestures. Wished they had bother front and rear fps
