Re: Note3 proximity sensor issue during calls

i have this issue too. the gestures work though(swiping through pictures, answering phone calls), but when i make a call the screen wont turn off. a lot of users here say their phone screen turns off but not on after it, mine doesn't even turn off. i tried blowing very hard into the headset speaker and it doesn't work. i am getting it replaced this week. oh and my phone has the camera issue too(white lines appearing in the middle portion of the photo, video). and i also have the stupid home button wobbly. a lot of note 3 phones has this issues but mine has all of them.

Are you getting your replacement from Samsung or from the carrier? and is it a brand new one or a an opened box or refurbished? i'm with AT&T and they only provide open box for the replacement.

Re: Note3 proximity sensor issue during calls

my Samsung Note 3's proximity sensor is not working. During a call, the screen goes black, but when you pull it away from your face the remains black and you can't hang up or accesss any of the in call features. The gesture features don't work either. I brought the phone back to where I purchased it off contract (Samsung retail store). They send the phones off to a third party for repairs. It was supposed to take 2 weeks. It's now into week three and she I call Samsung I can't even get an answer about when it will be fixed. For a phone that wasn't even two months old, they should have swapped me out with a new phone. Totally disappointed with their service.

Obviously you need to exchange your phone and this is just a tip.... I don't know if you know that there is a setting under calls that you have to check in order for the phone to turn off while making a call, otherwise the screen will stay on for as long as you are making the call.

Re: Note3 proximity sensor issue during calls

"Fixed" mine using the canned air blow and apply pressure on sensor/glass. Before ADC was hovering 80-85. After the workarounds, it went down to 50-55 and the sensor is back to normal function.

You could of used the power button setting to either answer a call or end it

Re: Note3 proximity sensor issue during calls

This is a big joke.. I came to this thread upon googling the Proximity sensor issue which suddenly stopped working after using it for 3 strong months. I was convinced this is the best device ever made. Samsung has clearly missed a critical aspect in designing this phone. Started to lose my sleep over this sensor issue and now today after reading this post and BLOWING AIR in earpiece couple of times solved this silly issue.

How sometimes we think too much into a small issue and start thinking hardcore when the issue is as silly as this. Lesson learnt.

Note 3 can go back to being the best device for the time-being until my next month blow session.

noticed the same problem .. good to know the fix .. I keep my phone in my pants pocket as I'm sure a number of people do (otterbox commuter) .. I bet pocket lint doesn't help here. will try keeping the screen clean (used compressed air for now - will see if that fixes it for me as it did for everyone else) and hopefully that helps until any sw settings are tweeked (if that is possible).

I just started hitting the home button after a call to get the screen back since I hadn't had time to look into it at all ..

still an outstanding device and absolutely incredible as to how much power and functionality can be in one handheld.

Edit: blew compressed air, worked well to fix..let's see how long until the next blast is needed our whether a screen wipe clean works

My fix of compressed air unfortunately only lasted about 1 week before I'm struggling again to get the prox sensor working right in calls. Definitely an issue for me if this keeps up. I don't mind blowing air through the sensor a couple times a year but not once a week

On my second note 3 and after a few weeks this one is showing proximity sensor failure. sigh

Out of curiosity, is anyone having proximity issues on the black version?

Third note 3 on the way. If this doesn't work, Verizon has agreed to let me have a different phone. Hope it works as I love my note 3.

The air can trick only works on my phone for a day or two..probably keeping it in my pocket doesn't help, but that's where I keep it...please post back if a new handset fixes it(which if it is hardware, not sure what would be better if they are all made the same so far)l(e.g.no hardware fix yet applied)..

So my new note 3 should be waiting for me when I get home. The proximity sensor is worse on my second white note 3, as nothing registers. On my first note 3 it would register and then fail. This second note 3 is with a completely dead sensor. Let's see if a third time is a charm.

I called Verizon for something else but mentioned the proximity sensor issue to them.

They had me reboot into safe mode...sensor started working fine.I then booted into regular mode and it's still working. The rep said their notes show that some third party apps can cause this.

very surprising to me.they were going to have me delete third party apps to see if that keeps it working but I didn't feel like doing that.

I asked if they have a list of suspect apps but didn't get one. I'm curious to know if this fixes anyone else's similar issue.we'll see if the fix keeps working...

One note: booting into safe mode and then in regular partially killed my app folder (stock android), so I had to do some work to reorganize apps.

I factory reset my device's to solve the equation of "maybe an app caused it." Both times failed to solve the proximity sensor failure. I am 100 percent it is hardware. Using my third note 3 (which is a refurb, first two were not) and it arrived in great shape. Sensor is working great. Hopefully this will continue. Maybe they addressed the sensor issue with the refurbished unit and the sensor is sealed properly and impervious to dust as it should be? Time will tell. I am convinced a large lot has a manufacturing defect allowing dust into the sensor causing premature failure as evidenced by temporary fixes with compressed air. Will report back if this refurb fails.

Verizon. Yes, under Samsung warranty. From the many threads I have read on this, it seems to affect all carriers. Some carriers are horrid and literally clean the sensor with compressed air to avoid fixing. Verizon is nothing but superbly awesome and waste little to no time in taking care of the problem the right way. They even said I can get a different phone if it happens again. Since it does affect many carriers, the problem is probably more than just a large lot of bad phones. So far the refurbished unit is doing great! This is how a note 3 should run.
