Note 4 Is there a 1080p and 1440p play option on youtube?

I just bypass the youtube app, put chrome in desktop mode and then go to youtube that way to see the videos in either 2K or 4K. Those videos look out of this world on a 2K AMOLED screen....wow....

Imma try that but i still rather the app already do it lol

right now now I have a note 3 & a note 4.

I tried all the steps mentioned here.

Still no resolution above damn720p on note 4.

On my note 3, I can see up to 1080p.

Both YouTube app versions on note 3/note 4 see the same: 5.10.3.5

I think Google disabled high resolution because they don't want people enjoying 2k & buying the note 4 till they've released nexus 6.

I'm just wondering if the app doesn't recognize the full 2K resolution output of the screen. Maybe if someone has the LG phone that has 2K, they can try the youtube app on there. I bet they haven't come out with an updated app to see our 2K screens yet.

Likewise, anyone know of any other sites that are hosting 4k?

Ive been doing this from day one and can confirm it works,I'm surprised that more people haven't tried it this way.

As said the 2k 4k videos look stunning.i would recommend viewing one called Costa rica in 4k

Google have been messing about with the resolution settings for over a month now.

I used to be able to do 1440p on my galaxy tab pro 10.1

Then I was only able to do 720p on all my devices (S5, tab pro and Nexus 7 2013).

Now I can do 1080p on my tab pro and S5 but still only 720p on my Nexus 7 2013.

I wish they would just fix it.

Ok i noticed that my Note 4 only had 1080p HD on 4k videos. I had this problem with my G3 but with the G3 it was a easy fix all i had to do was uninstall updated and install the version of youtube that supported 1440p so i tried it with my Note 4 the same thing i did with the G3 and it worked i had 1440p as i was watching the 1440p video youtube was updating and after the update i could not go any higher than 720p i tried it all i tried to remove updates and reinstall the version i wanted and it did do it but it would not allow anything higher than 720p no matter what i did i even restored my phone and nothing. To fix this issue i had to restore my phone with a clean version no backups and then it worked now i am back to 1080p. Not sure why youtube removed 1440p as my G3 has updated a few times and its still on 1440p and never gives me an issue.

Re: 1080p and 1440p play option on youtube

If you ARE rooted, you can remove/uninstall YouTube, and install the APK file forund here:

youtube-5.10.1.5

If you are NOT rooted, you can view YouTube from the Chrome browser, set it to desktop view, then open YouTube from your Chrome browser, and you should be able to view both 1080p, 1440p and 4K (for vids recorded in that mode).

For more info, and where I obtained the info (from XDA), you can view the thread here...

Hope this helps/works for you. =)

This worked for me, however playback in 2K and 4k is very choppy, why is that?

Same here. It didn't always work by using the browser. But every time it did, it was choppy for me as well.

Re: 1080p and 1440p play option on youtube

This worked for me, but I clicked on the link & downloaded to my pc first, moved it to my Note 3 SD internal root, Uninstalled the Updates in Application manager, then installed the apk. It is also, not choppy from my Note 4 at 1440 .... no option above that. BUT, the 2nd time I went to the same video, I only had a 1080 option! Youtube is limiting all of us & crippling apps! Imagine what they must be going through! I now upload at least 20gb a week from my GoPro 4 Black. Before it was about 10gb with my 3+ Black ;)

Cheers & Good Luck to all, Jon

UPDATE: For some reason it reverted back & have done all as before & it will not give me anything over 720 on a 4k file! :( :(

Cheers, Jon

Windowed, or full screen?

Is it preloading all of the way or is it buffering a lot? If not, it's having trouble keeping up since the bandwidth on 4K is extremely high.

Pretty sure with the Nexus 6 and the Droid Turbo coming out Google will soon add 1080 and 1440 back to the youtube app. It would be stupid not too tbh.

Re: 1080p and 1440p play option on youtube

Could also be related to the fact that Google is working on/coming out with YouTube paid service which they could be making the 1080p exclusive to.

I have noticed that if you select the auto option, it appears to play back at a higher resolution than 720p as long as it has been recorded and uploaded at 1080p or higher. That's what it looks like to me, (but I could be wrong).

Sorry, I think that was not correct now that I look again.
