Note taking apps for students as of 2015?

Hi all! Just joined because ive been rather frustrated with evernote. I'm looking for a real basic note taking app that lets me 1.) insert pdf files 2.)insert pictures ive taken (for the times professors dont include ppts). Thats about it, I don't really have a stylus pen so im not too concerned about that, especially because I have a keyboard for my tablet. I don't mind having to pay either, I just dont want to get trapped in evernote's expensive subscription. Thanks in advance!

(ps i really dont care about cloud sync to other devices or any of that, i know its a popular feature nowadays but i just dont care about it)

Don't know if this will help, but my daughter uses an app called "squid" on her Note 3 for note taking. She uses the S pen. Don't know how will work with keyboard. She likes how you can create, organize, or edit pages.
