someone earlier said the download was unavailable I wonder if its corrupted some how now...ill reupload it when I get a chance

I just had this problem too, with the wipe (EB16SC28_DXC.tar) version. (I know I did not actually have to use that version since I was coming from SC2.6, but I felt a compulsion to make sure it was wiped fully, to fully "start over".) Windows said Odin had a communication error and the program crashed. I am using the same set-up as when I used Odin for 2.6 (coming from Eclair), which was successful.

No big deal, I'll just reflash 2.6 to verify it's OK and try again with the non-wipe version of 2.8.

Yeah but will I have to reroot it because it's not giving me root access since I flashed those two files last night.

First when I tried to DL the wipe version (an hour ago?) MegaUpload said it was unavailable, but I could get to it after a few minutes. Now, trying to upload the non-wipe version, I am getting the same message. Just FYI.

Also: changing nothing on my computer setup, I just reflashed 2.6 successfully.

No need to root if you're using Odin. Just use the DI01 stock ROM from DroidXcon's previous links to get back to Verizon stock. That ROM is not rooted, which is to your benefit because you don't want to give a rooted phone back to them in case they decide to whine about your mad hacking screwing up the phone. Additionally, nothing needs to be rooted in order for you to go back or forward, as Odin is taking care of all of the work. I thought the same thing when I tried going back to DI01, way back when.

Use of Odin with any of the files that DroidX provides does not force anyone to root anything.

If I can't download the 2.8 that doesn't wipe data, is there any problem with flashing the 2.8 that does wipe data through odin, other than I will have to restore everything? Im coming from sc 2.6

Reason for remaking them? Something I should check for with either the 2.8x I have now, or something I should check when I go to your new 2.8x? I saw some talk about new kernels in another thread. Or are these the same packages, but with a different link because people are stating that they're having issues with the downloads?

people have been complaining that it is hanging up on them during the odin flash and also megaupload is saying that the download is unavailable,,,id rather remake them and be safe,rather than sorry

I know I'm not supposed to freak out if it seems to be taking a long time for it to download, but while I was attempting to install the tar file via Odin, Odin closed on it's own with a message that Odin Communicator has stopped working and

I am new to rooting, but am tired of waiting for the 2.2 OTA, which may never come.

Was following the instructions on page 1 of this thread and the .tar files I downloaded in step 2 where not .zip files but .rar files, and do not include the .mp5 suffix. Is this ok?

I never had to unzip the files, but they seemed to be already .rar files. Is this cool to proceded?

Use 7zip to unrar the file before you use it with Odin.

Exit Odin. Power off phone. Do it again but make sure you are using USB port in the back of your PC and also have your battery pulled when using Odin to flash.

Yeah. I keep going through the steps but once it reaches a point in the package installer, it closes Odin. I'm going to try an earlier version of the .tar file in hopes it's that. Whatever the case, I am freaking out right now.

have you tried rebooting your computer?
