Wooohooo! It took a lot longer than expected, but it was also a lot easier too! I'm now running sc2.8 and I love it! A huge thanks to those who answered my questions!
No, just crashing when trying to install 2.8 wipe odin package. The 2.4 wipe odin installed fine. Just upgraded via clockwork and everything seems fine.
i tried installing 2.8 from 2.5 and odin kept stalling near the end and then closing. i had to go back and install 2.5 from odin again, which worked fine. Any thoughts?
if you do one of these 3 versions of froyo, if and when; Verizon does do the over the air download, is a phone still capable of doing so or it wouldn't connect with the server to do it that way anymore? New at this, itching to try to install one of the leaked versions but worry I would screw up my fascinate.
It all worked until about 20 minutes ago. So it worked longer but still the same thing ended up happening.
You won't be able to do the OTA download updates from Verizon if you use any of the Froyo versions posted here. If you ever want to do OTA's again, you'll have to go back to factory stock - there is a link for it in the original post of this thread.
Although.. as fast as these updates keep coming, really no need to ever go back to stock unless you have a hardware failure.
You never I never had an issue flashing a rom before, but this time I've been trying to flash SC2.8 and odin closes due to a "communication error" right near the end..any thoughts?
Odin was crashing on me (right before the modem flashed) with 2.8 nonvoodoo.. I just used an older rom. 2.6 for example, and then used clockwork to flash to 2.8. Seems to work fine. Anyone else having problem with the 2.8 wipe version via ODIN?

did you put the zip folder on the sd card and use CW Red to do this? - im not sure how to do it, i've always used odin
Personally not sure of what would happen. I would expect that you wouldn't get the notice because you're already, technically, had Froyo. But if you did get the notice, I WOULD NOT do the update. I would backup your phone contacts, apps and the such, throttle down to stock DI01, and then do the update from there. Better to get the stock update to lay over top of the stock ROM than to try and update it over one of these hacked packages. Otherwise, you don't know what they'll leave in, take out, or what will cause chaos with your phone.
Personally, when the official release comes out, I'll wait to see what is done with Super Clean because Adrynalyne and others will have the last pieces of the puzzle to create a more solid foundation for the SC ROM, as well as make the enhancements more efficient.
Time to flash back to stock and throw it at a verizon rep...in the roms and hacks section look for how to full system wipe and restore samsung fascinate

That might have been the problem with mine, should have tried to redownload, but once I got 2.4 flashed, I just used clockwork to install 2.8.
I do have the red cwm(the one on the first post), but if other odin sc versions are flashing fine then I would think it was the file, not cwm.

I just had this problem too, with the wipe (EB16SC28_DXC.tar) version. (I know I did not actually have to use that version since I was coming from SC2.6, but I felt a compulsion to make sure it was wiped fully, to fully "start over".) Windows said Odin had a communication error and the program crashed. I am using the same set-up as when I used Odin for 2.6 (coming from Eclair), which was successful.
No big deal, I'll just reflash 2.6 to verify it's OK and try again with the non-wipe version of 2.8.
