On and off, I see people state this in either this thread or Adrynalyne's. Try flashing the modem by itself. You can download it here.

I had a texting issue that was resolved by flashing the modem. You flash it the same way with Odin. Instead of loading the entire rom package, you just load this file. Just remember that if its a rar that you unrar the file. I can't remember if it is or not.

Hey SuD, how's it going? Just a quick note to let you know DXC's packages are the only .rar files. Everything else we flash through ODIN is a .tar file that doesn't get unzipped or extracted and is flashed as is. That way you'll easily be able to help anyone who has used one of DXC's packages or asks.

Thanks bro; good to know. BTW, I'm good. Home today because of sick family, so a guy's got to do what a guy's got to do.

I'm running 2.4 and was trying to upgrade to 2.9, but when I ran odin it didn't do anything when I hit "start". I followed the instructions exactly (i've used this method 2 or 3 times before, so I'm pretty comfortable with it). Do I need to upgrade to 2.5/2.6/2.7/2.8 first? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thought: could I just download the 2.9 .zip from Adrynalyne's thread and flash it with CWM?

You do not need to do progressive updates, as you ARE able to skip those versions to get to your final one. So going to the 29x rom so that you don't have to have data wiped should work.

You can download Adrynalyne's zip file, go into recovery and load it that way if you want. If that doesn't take care of you, come back and we'll see if we can troubleshoot the Odin install.

Welcome back. Yes, if you are having trouble with the ODIN method, you can download the 2.9 zip to your sd card and flash with CWM. And as an added bonus when you do that, every time after then when you boot into recovery you will go directly to the current, correct, stable red cwm-all without having to go through blue stock recovery and hitting apply sdcard:update.zip. If you are comfortable flashing in CWM, perfect. That will be a quick and easy way to upgrade. If you're not comfortable, DroidXcon just put together a step-by-step with screenshot visual aids on how to flash in CWM here:

Enjoy the 2.9 goodness. You are really going to be amazed at the speed and stability difference coming all the way from 2.4. Probably a good idea jumping that many versions to do a wipe of cache and dalvik cache from CWM right before flashing the zip file. Those instructions are also in DroidXcon's thread if you haven't done it before.

rooting is nothing more then having a certain file in a certain folder that gives you administrative access....

think of the process of rooting like this

Process of rooting analogy
you go to your front door, the door is locked, you see a window slightly open so you force it open and unlock it from the inside, now you have access to get in and out

analogy for this odin method
you go to your front door, the door is locked, so you get a bulldozer, knock down the house, and you have another one built with an unlocked door :)

okay cool, i understand that better haha. so would the one click method you showed in another thread be more like going through the window?

lol you are both lucky I'm driving.....and he should check tbe trouble shooting steps on page 1 of this thread. One day he will need odin to work

yup thanks for that

Then again... you could die a martyr, or something. Providing technical support just as you crawl under a semi. No one here wants that (your martyrdom or disappearance from these boards). So be safe out there and know that this stuff'll wait until you get a free moment.

So I had SC 2.8 and battery was so so. Yesterday I restored back to DL09 and then up to SC 2.9. I use Batteryfu to try and save some battery life. I took my phone off the dock at 5:30 this morning and have done some texting, browsing and a few calls that went to voice-mail and I still have 60% left as of 11 hours later. Not sure if this will be the same tomorrow but I am pretty happy with that for the first day with 2.9. Thanks for the awesome work.

I have the same to say about 2.9. I have been updating incrementally since about 2.2, and found "good" life. But something great happened as of the other day where I loaded the data wipe version of 2.9, and loaded my steel blue theme, I have found the best battery life yet. I need to find an application to give me tangible data about my phone use and battery consumption, so please advise if you know of any, as I'd like to post empirical data regarding my phone use and settings.

There is no good data for battery use, too many variables. That's why I ignore battery life discussions.
