Re: [ODIN][Released by p3droid] Leaked Gingerbread EC09 Full Stoc
I went to two different stores and they both told me the same thing, that Sammy was the one who does the warranty. They even showed me where they have it in the fine print that accessories are not a warranty item by Big Red. What do you suggest I tell them at the next store I go to?
Question.... If you don't think it was GB that killed your SD card, how is it that there has been such a rash of toasted cards since the leak came out? I have never heard of bad SD cards in this proportion happening and all around the same time.
Fine print or not, those are part of the phone. They were not purchased as separate line items, as they were sold with the phone, again... regardless of their classification as an accessory. When the stores fail you, and they commonly do around me in Dayton, call 611 and explain your dilemma. They have more power than the stores, and have sent me batteries and phones when the stores don't. At this point, forget the stores and save the gas.
As for my SD? I don't believe GB killed it because I see everyone else being able to recover their card by putting it in a reader and either re partitioning the card and/or reformatting. None of that could be done on my card. Again, the card was getting super hot, and I would contribute that to a faulty controller. The card could be recognized but not partitioned or formatted, and because I had backed up the card a week to 10 days before, I was okay with minimal loss when I transferred my stuff back to the new card.
I agree with you that it was coincidence that it failed around the same time, but... most of those failures happened within the first day and when they left the card in the phone when it was booted the first or second time. Mine ran for almost a week and a half before it failed. Also, prior to my loading GB, I was using the ComRom and it was causing me to charge my phone from dead to full almost 2x a day, and the battery was getting hot. I complained to VZ when it happened, but I knew it wasn't their fault. The call was to confirm that the battery was covered. I've had the new battery in my replacement phone for a few days now without an issue. Problem is that if the phone was the culprit, the replacement card they gave me was in that previous phone for 6 days and may have been affected. We'll see. After this weekend, I'll move back over to GB leak or one of the modified GB roms.
Also, consider this.... the memory card is not a typical accessory. The phone's camera will not work without a memory card, so... they can claim that all they wan't, but an embedded function of the device requiring a memory card is not an accessory by definition. If that's the case, your PC's system memory is an accessory. I've dealt with every major manufacturer of motherboard to PC for nearly 15 years. I've never had someone like Dell, Gateway, hell... even PacBell, tell me that I had to send the memory to Samsung to get my warranty on the phone. Where on the contract did they state that it was an accessory? I almost want to have an argument with VZ just because of this. I wish that you were here in Dayton.
Stores are lazy by nature. One of my local corporate stores wanted to charge me $20 to check a phone to see if it was stolen. I asked if they were kidding, but they said that they were not. They had to put it on the network and then take it off, and that amounts to an activation and deactivation. I could have done it online at the time, but was not near a PC. I opted to call 611 while in the store, and they took care of it, for free, over the phone.
Look at it this way... When you are an employee of VZ and you have a quota to sell X number of phone's, tablets, or whatever, and you're dealing with someone who wants a component replaced, what do you think they want to do? Service you or sell something to you? So... what do you want? If you want near immediate satisfaction, call 611 and get customer/tech support to replace the card. Just make sure that you drop the partition on purpose and clear the card so they can't give it a general once over and see... oh, he's got voodoo/lagfix, yadda yadda on the phone. He must be hacking/modding/re-purposing his phone, he'll have to pay for the card. Or do you want to make a point and have a VZ store give you some satisfaction? Just make sure that if it's a store, that you're going into a Corporate store and not an authorized reseller. Might as well be at a swap meet if you deal with them.
Just got off the phone with the customer service folks at 611. They say the same thing about authorized re sellers vs. corporate stores. If the corporate stores is giving you grief, call 611 and they'll send you a card. They even said the same thing I did... the card is needed to make the camera work, so how could a store say its an accessory like phone case?
... and that's my "for what its worth" of the day.
