[ODIN][Released by p3droid] Leaked Gingerbread EC09 Full Stock package

Re: [ODIN][Released by p3droid] Leaked Gingerbread EC09 Full Stoc

Is there a lagfix for this rom?

Re: [ODIN][Released by p3droid] Leaked Gingerbread EC09 Full Stoc

I was lucky enough to not have my SD wiped, plus I had made a backup of it anyways, it's handy just incase something falls the wrong way one day.

I was running into issues with TiBu not reloading my contacts, logs, or messages... I went back to froyo, ukb 2.1, otb 1.5, and kept the awesome ec09 radio. running like a dream, Especially since I figured voodoo out in doing all this. I fell in love with my phone all over again.

I'm going to hold off on the GB update for now. Let things steady out a bit more.

I was gonna install GB until I read this. Same config I've had for awhile now. This set up is great.

Re: Instructions to install using odin

I did this today on my Verizon Fascinate and everything is working fine after a few reboots. Can't wait for a more stable version and some themes and kernels to come out. :)

Hate to be a pessimist but... Don't hold your breath. Development on this rom has been all but abandoned thanks to the pervasive lockups and SD card issues that seem to be embedded into the very soul of this rom. If you want my advice, turn back before you are addicted to the speed and battery life of a debloated GB fascinate! Turn back while you still can! Turn back before you, like me, resort to uploading your photos to twitter the instant you take them because you realize it might be the last time you ever see that file again. It's not worth it! Trust me!

Re: [ODIN][Released by p3droid] Leaked Gingerbread EC09 Full Stoc

Verizon does warranty the card. I just had mine replaced on Saturday. If your local store tells you otherwise, they're jivng you. I walked in, they checked that the card was dead, and replaced it there on the spot. My card didn't fail until around 10 days to 2 weeks after upgrading to GB, and is why I don't believe it was GB that killed it.

I went to two different stores and they both told me the same thing, that Sammy was the one who does the warranty. They even showed me where they have it in the fine print that accessories are not a warranty item by Big Red. What do you suggest I tell them at the next store I go to?

Question.... If you don't think it was GB that killed your SD card, how is it that there has been such a rash of toasted cards since the leak came out? I have never heard of bad SD cards in this proportion happening and all around the same time.

Re: [ODIN][Released by p3droid] Leaked Gingerbread EC09 Full Stoc

is it possible to go back to a sc rom and keep the ec09 radio? just having too many issues with the leak, but the best part about it is the battery life and radio.

edit:

I installed com rom and flashed the ec09 radio via odin...

Fine print or not, those are part of the phone. They were not purchased as separate line items, as they were sold with the phone, again... regardless of their classification as an accessory. When the stores fail you, and they commonly do around me in Dayton, call 611 and explain your dilemma. They have more power than the stores, and have sent me batteries and phones when the stores don't. At this point, forget the stores and save the gas.

As for my SD? I don't believe GB killed it because I see everyone else being able to recover their card by putting it in a reader and either re partitioning the card and/or reformatting. None of that could be done on my card. Again, the card was getting super hot, and I would contribute that to a faulty controller. The card could be recognized but not partitioned or formatted, and because I had backed up the card a week to 10 days before, I was okay with minimal loss when I transferred my stuff back to the new card.

I agree with you that it was coincidence that it failed around the same time, but... most of those failures happened within the first day and when they left the card in the phone when it was booted the first or second time. Mine ran for almost a week and a half before it failed. Also, prior to my loading GB, I was using the ComRom and it was causing me to charge my phone from dead to full almost 2x a day, and the battery was getting hot. I complained to VZ when it happened, but I knew it wasn't their fault. The call was to confirm that the battery was covered. I've had the new battery in my replacement phone for a few days now without an issue. Problem is that if the phone was the culprit, the replacement card they gave me was in that previous phone for 6 days and may have been affected. We'll see. After this weekend, I'll move back over to GB leak or one of the modified GB roms.

Also, consider this.... the memory card is not a typical accessory. The phone's camera will not work without a memory card, so... they can claim that all they wan't, but an embedded function of the device requiring a memory card is not an accessory by definition. If that's the case, your PC's system memory is an accessory. I've dealt with every major manufacturer of motherboard to PC for nearly 15 years. I've never had someone like Dell, Gateway, hell... even PacBell, tell me that I had to send the memory to Samsung to get my warranty on the phone. Where on the contract did they state that it was an accessory? I almost want to have an argument with VZ just because of this. I wish that you were here in Dayton.

Stores are lazy by nature. One of my local corporate stores wanted to charge me $20 to check a phone to see if it was stolen. I asked if they were kidding, but they said that they were not. They had to put it on the network and then take it off, and that amounts to an activation and deactivation. I could have done it online at the time, but was not near a PC. I opted to call 611 while in the store, and they took care of it, for free, over the phone.

Look at it this way... When you are an employee of VZ and you have a quota to sell X number of phone's, tablets, or whatever, and you're dealing with someone who wants a component replaced, what do you think they want to do? Service you or sell something to you? So... what do you want? If you want near immediate satisfaction, call 611 and get customer/tech support to replace the card. Just make sure that you drop the partition on purpose and clear the card so they can't give it a general once over and see... oh, he's got voodoo/lagfix, yadda yadda on the phone. He must be hacking/modding/re-purposing his phone, he'll have to pay for the card. Or do you want to make a point and have a VZ store give you some satisfaction? Just make sure that if it's a store, that you're going into a Corporate store and not an authorized reseller. Might as well be at a swap meet if you deal with them.

Just got off the phone with the customer service folks at 611. They say the same thing about authorized re sellers vs. corporate stores. If the corporate stores is giving you grief, call 611 and they'll send you a card. They even said the same thing I did... the card is needed to make the camera work, so how could a store say its an accessory like phone case?

... and that's my "for what its worth" of the day.

Re: [ODIN][Released by p3droid] Leaked Gingerbread EC09 Full Stoc

You're not going to believe this...

The re-certified phone is bad. I get phone calls and can't hear the person, and when I make calls they can hear me but I can't hear them. Pretty dumb for a phone that supposedly gets a 100 point inspection before leaving Samsung as a re-certified device.

VZ is over-nighting me a phone replacement... and offered me another make and model phone since that was my 3rd one. I told them no. They offered me an early phone upgrade. I told them no. I think I'll wait for the GS2 and see what happens then. Even though I was told that they won't replace a 3G with a 4G, something tells me that they will before my warranty is up.

First of all THANK YOU for taking the time and compiling such a comprehensive response!
I am not going to quote the whole thing but just some of the parts that peaked my interest.

Fine print or not, those are part of the phone. They were not purchased as separate line items, as they were sold with the phone, again... regardless of their classification as an accessory. When the stores fail you, and they commonly do around me in Dayton, call 611 and explain your dilemma. As they say there are two sides to every story and I like your point of view on how the SD card is NOT an accessory. I will keep this in my arsenal and use it when I speak to the next VZW rep.

I also never thought to do the 611 option so I will try that next and report back. If it works then I'll have two cards as Samsung is sending me a replacement as well and they don't want the bad card back.

As for my SD? I don't believe GB killed it because I see everyone else being able to recover their card by putting it in a reader and either re partitioning the card and/or reformatting. The card could be recognized but not partitioned or formatted, and because I had backed up the card a week to 10 days before, I was okay with minimal loss when I transferred my stuff back to the new card.

I too was able to "recover" my data at first, but the longer the card was in the worse it got and now it is at the point where no utility I have tried can format, partition/re-partition, recover, etc. Like yourself, my issues didn't start happening until a few days after I installed the leak and it got progressively worse as the days went on.

Again thanks for your contribution, people like you are why this forum is 5 star.

My advice to you is if you start seeing issues with your files (gallery pics missing that you KNOW were there), camera acting up, BACKUP your data ASAP and flash back to Comm Rom. Maybe you'll be able to save your SD card at that point.

Go back to EB01 and build back up to ComRom. Also when Odin back to Odin EB01 partition with PIT Atlas 2.2.

Hate to say it SuD but there isn't anyone I've seen on AC or XDA who had their sd card get fried who hadn't flashed some form of the EC09 leak. And I've not seen one post from someone who had their sd card get fried and never flashed any of the EC09 leaks. And when the sd card gets fried has varied widely. Some people have it fry within a day or two, but there have been posts from people whose cards didn't fry until a week or more later. Also not everyone has been able to recover their sd cards due to the EC09 leak. Sbrissen himself had his sd card completely fried and he could not recover it at all. He has attributed it to the EC09 leak and I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about. Just can't ignore the correlation between EC09 and the cards being fried.

Hi can someone tell me where I can find CommRom 2.1...thanks

I had to give up and go back to Com Rom 2.1. I was holding out cause I loved having Netflix.

I could deal with the SD card formatting daily since I was backed up, but not all the FCes and constant power cycling. (Especially when it takes 2-3 minutes for the phone to boot back up.)

The KB GB was awesome and I LOVE Com Rom 2.1!

Keep up the great work guys. (Can't wait to jump back in once the bugs are worked out or we get an official GB release to play with.)

Re: [ODIN][Released by p3droid] Leaked Gingerbread EC09 Full Stoc

I flashed the EC09 modem only and I have not had any problems. I hope that continues to be the case.
