Official 2.0.1 findings thread

Realy? I have only had the droid for a short time, but drove myself crazy for a way to manually download the update OTA. Resorted to the SD update.zip.

no, the check for updates wouldnt have done u any good, they pushed the update by a message, wasnt even in the check for updates.

After spending a day or two with the update, I have come to the conclusion that one of the things they did was reduce the overall brightness of the screen. Since day one, I have kept my brightness set at 10% and have never had a problem at all with seeing every part of the screen. Since the update, I am finding that at times, even in a dark room, it is difficult to decipher what is on the screen. Playing around, I boosted the brightness to 20% and to me it seems to be right back where it was before. This alone may account for the better battery life. This screen is just too bright at the highest settings. IMO.

not really any issues before the update

I noticed some mminor changes after the update but for me the phone was pretty flawless to begin with. My brother on the other hand, lost all his contacts after the update. i don't know how he made out with that. Did anyone else have this problem?

That has happened to some but it's a simple fix. All you have to do is re-sync with your Gmail account.

My phone was doing wonderful before the update. Since the update whenever I get a phone call and the screen goes blank (as it should) it does not come back on without either plugging it in or pulling the battery (which I do not want to do). I have found that others are having the same problem on other sites.

I know I had already posted this in another thread... =)

Uhm, I don't know. I did the manual install and noticed everything was faster but the browser was MUCH MUCH slower. Scrolling on a mobile site such as Android and Me takes FOREVER. It is just like my old G1... *shudders on bad memories*

Other than that it's great! Battery life is improved dramatically and the whole OS is more stable, but I always have the feeling of, "if I waited for the OTA, would it be better?" It gets to me ._.

kinda wierd i was thinking that same thing. wish i woulda waited.

I did my update this morning so I finally feel like I can participate! Browser speed is MUCH faster, especially noticable with streaming videos. I like the old unlock better... it was more unique and didn't seem like a knock-off of "Slide to Unlock" that the 'other' phone has.

After the update, ALL of my DXTOP settings were gone, so I had to re-setup my desktops with apps/widgets the way I had them before. As of now nothing has disappeared after doing that.

I likes the CLOCK on the lock screen a lot better before. The old one had a much less "tech" look to it and was far more classy, in my opinion.

Browser speed "MUCH" faster? Really? Im noticing a decline in both speed and more obviously scrolling speed. Dissapointed with the update so far, so much as to say that I hardly use my browser anymore simply cause the scroll speeds are horrendous and I mean horrendous.

To me this is incredibly strange. I too have found that my browser scrolling and speed have improved. I am very intrigued as to the vast difference in some users experience after this update.

I too, find it to be strange. MOST people are enjoying the update while a small few arent and I happen to be one of the unlucky ones :(

I'm really wondering about this whole 2.01 update deal.. I'm wondering if this was just a bug fix update to prep our phones for 2.1? Why else would 2.1 be comming out on other phones and our droids don't have it? I read somewhere that there was to be a secon update comming. Can anyone shine a little light on this?

There has been a lot of talk, and even a story that was posted that says another update is coming in January. This is presumably the Android 2.1 update. I share your assumption in saying that the 2.0.1 update was in preparation for Android 2.1, which would make sense. If that IS the case, then I am very excited for January :D

I am still having mixed results after the update. I'm hoping that app developers will release updates to help out. My dxtop weather widget always seems to be "loading" for example. My browser is indeed faster, but now my alarm clock won't shut off unless I open the phone. So there are just a lot of "odd" things and it seems that many people are having opposing experiences.

What I've notice now that I had a couple a days to use it is the keyboard is more responsive. Before the update I would constantly type faster than the on screen keyboard could handle but after the update is appears to be able to keep up with me now.

Also I haven't noticed any difference in web browsing as some others have complained about, the overall speed on both wifi and 3G seem the same as well as the scrolling.

Overall I like the look better and the battery is slightly better (which is always a plus) so I have no complains and am looking forward to 2.1.

Contrary to what other people have been saying, I think my battery life is actually a little decreased with 2.0.1. It used to be that I'd unplug my phone at 8 am, and it would last me until midnight or so. Now, today, for instance, I unplugged my phone at noon, and the battery only lasts until 1. Meaning I get about 3 hours less.

I text a lot, look things up on wikipedia now and then, use twidroid, and call someone maybe once a day, if even then. Nothing terribly data intensive. I don't really know why my battery is so crummy.

At first, I thought it was because I manually updated my phone, and very early on, before people even reported if it was the right update or anything. But my friend has a droid, and updated it OTA. Same thing. In fact, her phone dies at about the same exact time every day now.

The only other possibility I can think of is that some app I downloaded is sucking power more.

I did notice that eBuddy and Meebo tend to suck a pretty decent amount of battery life away (although, eBuddy did just release an update that allows for a battery saving mode). Do you happen to have either one of these installed and in use?

Nope. I went through last night and deleted a few apps that were free, that I don't use and were just taking up space (i.e. Layar, Google Voice). Hopefully I'll see improvements today. Unplugged at 10 am. If it lasts past 11 pm, I'm happy.

Download "Spare Parts" from the market. It has detailed battery usage by app and history. Very nice info .. Might help you determine what is sucking battery ..
