Official Droid X Froyo update thread

I downloaded and installed fine, everything was OK except the date widget of all things, so I shut down. On restart the phone hung on the Motorola logo. After 30 minutes I battery pulled, then it restarted fine, and it's been perfect ever since.

Quick notes:

- if you have corp sync or exchange accounts; it's going to require you to enter a PIN and then set itself to 15 minute PIN code locking with no way to remove the PIN. Uninstalling and reinstalling those accounts will fix this issue.

- If you were using some smart battery profile, you're going to get punted to "night battery" mode that shuts off sync after 15 minutes from something like 10pm to 5am. You can go into battery settings and set up a new smart profile to do whatever you want (in my case, 1am to 7am)

Aside from little quibbles about things they changed, its smooth sailing for me as well.

So I have been getting the "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later" box for the last few hours.

I have tried with and without WiFi
I have done numerous powercycles and battery pulls (both with waiting varying amounts of timing for turning back on)
I uninstalled ATK.

Still no dice. Anybody else have any tips or thoughts?

Oh, and I am on stock 2.1

Everything went smoothly for me (was not rooted).

- Was slow for an hour or so after update, now starting to run well
- Noticed that the weather widget in the dock home screen actually works now and even includes your current location as an option.
- I have watched a few seconds of a live futbol match thanks to flash.
- New GMail app is pretty cool...much easier to switch between multiple accounts

Still not sure what else to look for...

Not even sure what else I should be looking for.

Okay my BIG issue is I can no longer get into handscent for text messages and I cant even get into the regular text message screen it just shows black when I click it and then I hit the home key to get out. Any suggestions?

Maybe try reinstalling it.

Have you gone into Data Manager -> Social Applications -> Sync Over WiFi only? Make sure that box is unchecked. I had to do that when I updated.

As for me, I had stock 2.1 and pulled the update with 30% battery left. Took about 15 minutes to download over 3G and another 5 to install. It then stayed at the Droid X eye for about 2 minutes before it went to my lock screen. It made me enter a PIN, which I can no longer get rid of now which is kind of annoying. I set it so the PIN only needs to be entered after 15 minutes of inactivity which I can handle, but does anybody know how to disable it altogether?

When I first tried running the phone after installation, there were some problems. None of my widgets would load and the phone was very laggy. I waited about 10 minutes to see if this would change, and after it didn't I rebooted the phone, and after doing so, I received the update installation confirmation and everything has been great since. Woke up this morning to delicous FroYo.

How do you uninstall this? I went into my Accounts and it was not listed there.

I am really hoping someone here can help me out. I have TWO DXs and I have tried the update on both of them. Each time the phone runs slower than slow. WiFi does not work, it connects and then disconnects and reconnects but when I try the browser it says its not available (even when the phone says it connected) the same happens with the market. When I try to do things on 3G it is painful. Now the phone is resetting itself over and over over, it passes the eye and the DROID screen and gets to the lock screen with no background and (No Service) at the top and after a minute or two it restarts. I hate going to VZW for help, in store they are dumb and over the phone isnt much better and all they do is make you hard reset.

i just got the droid x yesterday and i am from a blackbery so far i love the droid i just did the update but im alil lost with the rooted unrooted things u talking bout and after the update complete what am i suppose to do. thanks for your help

Great, thanks for the tip. It succeded in getting me past the "Check for update not available" screen but now it's been searching for an available update for about 20-25 minutes.....

Why does Froyo hate me? I switched from RIM! ha

Patience is a virtue I suppose

Turn on Wifi, leave it on, do a regular power cycle.

Pro-tip: Uninstall the Flash that comes with this build and download the one from the market. The one in the market has a fix for the security issue found recently and I was not getting an update prompt.

Downloading like a charm.

Thank you for your help, I appreciate the tips and we'll see how this rolls out for me....

Thanks again!

15 minutes to d/l over 3G, 5 to install, up and running. WAY quicker and easier than the (almost monthly!) Software updates on blackberry.

Hooray android!

Update: flash works great - just played a few rounds of Electric Box on candystand.com on my X. Cool.

Just curious, will we be getting anymore minor software updates before Gingerbread? Or will we be ignored.

Didn't work for me at all. I followed these steps, then on selecting "reboot System Now," I went right back to the Moto Logo hang.

NVM.

Just went back to stock 2.1 and am about to download the OTA.
