I lost the camera app after upgrading to 2.2

I lost the camera app after upgrading to 2.2, Have anyone of you found something like this ? I noticed that in other galaxy s phones some people also had the same problem when going to 2.2. Is it there a way to get my common applications as before. Otherwise I only have problems at the Gallery, where I keep getting the error message "Sorry ! The Application Gallery (process com.cooliris.media) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
The only way for me to use the camera is by using applications such as Camera Magic, Retro Camera or Pudding Camera. I also lost the Video App...
Any ideas ?

Kies Mini is not recognizing my phone, is there any explaination on what this could be.

I had same issue...1st thing...does your computer recognize your phone? If not, uninstall Kies, then plug in your phone and go to either mass storage or Media player so that the computer then recognizes phone. unplug phone. Re install Kies - that worked for me anyway. I did update in about 15 minutes and it's working great~!

Well, after reading all this; I think I will just keep my phone as it is. Doesn't really seem to be much benefit to going to Froyo unless you like possible bugs and glitches. Cameras, ringers, MMS and other things possibly not working doesn't sound appealing to me.

I just have mine rooted and lag fix on and besides hoping Froyo would help with my GPS accuracy and fixing Flash, I am happy with my phone as is.

Might go flash a ROM instead.

I am seriously about to cry. I have wasted maybe five or six hours on this and I just can't get it to work, and I'm a freaking' IT professional.

I am using Windows 7 64-bit. I have installed the Captivate 64-bit drivers for the phone as well as the modem inside the phone. I installed Kies Mini, rebooted.

It asks me to connect my phone. I've tried every possible combination. USB debug, nope. Kies mode, nope. Every time I plug the phone in Windows claims the device has malfunctioned and it can't recognize it, with or without Kies open. Reconnecting it produces the same results.

Windows tells me to "replace the device". Yeah, I'm about to replace the device. With my fist.

Help, please. T_T

Have you tried another computer? Also try reinstalling the drivers, or maybe a different USB port.

Yeah. I tried on an XP machine.

After about 10 reconnections of my phone Kies finally picked it up and told me "unsupported device", despite showing that it was a I897 on their crap update screen.

The XP machine allows me to view the folders and copy data without a problem (something I couldn't do on the 64bit 7 machine, even with proper drivers) but Kies is still being a POS and won't let me do jack.

I am about to go to thel ocal AT&T store and beat someone to death with this thing. Tha'ts about all it's useful for right now, a club.


EDIT: Also: it's in Kies mode, it's showing the MTP thing on the screen, but Kies is sitting there going HERP DERP CONNECT YOUR PHONE.

No, it's stock as I got it from AT&T.

Screenshot of what it is doing now. Also, now I can't seem to copy files to it no matter what mode it's in (Mass Storage, Kies, or Media Player).

I'm crying. Seriously. This is so frustrating.

Dang, sorry I'm not sure what to tell you. If your phone is working fine, then I'd wait til tomorrow and give Samsung a call. Maybe they have some secret fix for it.

I pulled my SD card and ended up doing a factory reset wipe. On a THIRD PC I was able to get it to "start downloading binary files".

But now I have to reinstall everything.

An empty victory.


EDIT: nope. Total loss. Update failed.

I didn't. It still fails because the "device malfunctioned and Windows cannot recognize it" after the binaries are downloaded. I quit.

I was not impressed with 2.1 and the amount of BS I have to go through to get 2.2? I'm done with Samsung and I'm done with Android. I'll go back to using a plain flip phone.

I'm sorry to hear that. The problems with the update are Samsung's, not Android's, but I understand your frustration.

Android crashed constantly with 2.1, the apps were shoddy at best, and the overall experience I've had with it is very poor. I am not impressed and will not be back. :/

I just got a text from Samsung about an update, I have 2.2 all ready. What is this one about, it said there was a server problem and to try again later.

STEP 1: Download Kies from here. Just update a few minutes ago for Froyo!

STEP 2: Run the .exe file you downloaded. Choose language, agree to terms and let it do its thing.

This is where it gets iffy since I can't get it to work.

STEP 3: Under Setting>Applications>USB Settings and put it in Kies mode. Hit the home button.

STEP 4: Open Kies, and plug in your phone. Kies should recognize your phone, and you can hit the Update Phone button and start the update.

Hmmmmm. I get no "update button" as it's grayed out. Followed the steps above exactly. Drivers installed successfully.

The Kies screen looks like this, can't seem to get past this screen...

Got a step further, anyway. Thanks. It showed a firmware update dated 11-2010??? Stuck on "downloading binary files" for about an hour now. Progress bar remains on zero.

Nearly 2 hours, but at least there's movement. And I have a 12Mbps connection. Hope all goes well here.
