Official/Unofficial 2.3.4 Gingerbread RUU Leaked

It depends. What if you flash this unofficial leak now (today) and the final official one (and the ensuing RUU) doesn't come for another month? No one knows exactly when the final build will be ready or released. At least with the early leak of MR2 back in June, the reboot issue was serious enough for many of us to warrant installing it. Considering most with the final MR2 update have solid working phones, not so sure about this leak. But to each his own. :)

The official RUU will be out before Verizon releases the update to the masses. You can count on that. ;)

I think I'll wait for a leaked update that Verizon has signed off on. Its very tempting to install this one though. Going to wait at least a few more days for some more indepth testing to be done on it by folks on this forum.

Can anyone verify is Mobile Hotspot still works for free after update. I haven't updated to latest firmware update to avoid this.

To rename it, just right click it and choose rename (no need to open the file). If you flash this leaked build, you most likely will NOT get the official OTA and instead will have to download the final official RUU, download it and flash the phone again.

OK great, thanks for the info.. I have a strange feeling I should just wait since I truly suck at this stuff.

Here is a mirror link also on the updated original post if y'all need it

I've been using the update for close to a day now.

So far no random reboots, battery life has been vastly improved. Had a few issues with getting a data signal at the start, but after restarting a couple of times, it all seems to work fine - both 3G and 4G LTE.

Speed of this RUU is amazing. Everything loads much faster than it used to, Skype and Gtalk have video calling - both with the ability to use the front facing camera. It still has the Verizon apps and MyVerizon works as well on this build which is a plus.

Here are some of the issues I'm facing:
Market is not updating to the latest version - though I can just install it from here.

I had a hard time accessing TheMikMik.com to download the RUU - but there's a mirror site now:

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Ensure that the MD5 of the file is: e4c90364613e1a520d4313114604e4e8

After installing it, it might have some issues while booting up, remove the battery and restart the phone. Took me a couple of times before it started to work properly.

I assumed that with Gingerbread, there would be a whole new UI... I was wrong :P It's 90% the same as Froyo, with some slight changes in the features...

But performance wise, it is much, MUCH better!

Hope you enjoy the update as much as I am :)

I've spent a day with the update and battery life seems to be slightly better (will have to give it more time to see for sure). The biggest thing is that everything is SO much faster. It feels like the processor was kicked up by 200 more mhz; no lag at all.

It may be just in my mind, but the screen seems to look better also. I don't know if they have minor accents on some stuff that wasn't there before, but it looks great!

So far, I'm very pleased with the update. I wish that we could have gotten the sense 3.0 lockscreen, but this performance boost with no bugs (that I could find) is greatly welcomed. Great job HTC.

To the folks who are reporting much improved performance, do you think it might have come from wiping the phone clean rather than simply GB?

No. I redownloaded everything I had on there if not more and it is not only quicker but the battery is surprisingly better. I will probably go back to the 1400mAh battery from my 2750 if it continues to be this good.

No. I've done quite a few of the other froyo leaks (MR2 updates) that required me to wipe my phone and they were not as fast as this one is. Notification bar slides down smoothly, personalize button pops up instantly, and moving widgets is a simple task. Everything just runs notably faster and there's no lag.

I actually recently done a factory reset on my phone when I was on Froyo. The performance was still sluggish.

Since then, I have reinstalled all apps that were on my phone on Gingerbread, and the performance is still much much better.

Yeah, it seems that Gingerbread really does make a difference. I'm glad I updated.

Most definitely not there is a dramatic improvement in overall performance our phones when from slow to fast overnight!

I updated without wipe any data and runs smother and faster and until now everything works great. Battery Life seems the same. Though I like the new graphs on battery use...

Yes, I really wasn't expecting it improve predominance. Happy it did. I've done several factory resets under Froyo and it's never helped this much. Feels more polished... not terms I expect to say about a leak over official (previous) build.... Win98 was a step backwards from Win95 OSR2.5... took Win98SE to fix it.... lets not talk about Win ME..... I stay on Win2K a long time because of it..... just in case XP repeated those missteps... I'm still looking for the rough corners on this build, but I'm going with "polished" to describe this RUU..... I had expected it to look a little different (it does just a little in places if you real look), I was expecting Skype to work with front facing camera (it does), and some security changes under the hood (not noticeable)... Compared to BB the TBolt wasn't that laggy.... It might not be exactly the same level of speed increase, but it close... very pleasant unexpected surprise.... especially as this RUU still contains bloatware....
